Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-02-11 10:55 AM

Iambe comes, in old trucks
gone knocking,
tackles blocks and shifts
into easy overalls
sans shirts...

then she brings thoughts of others,
and lonely roads,
with gravelly windings
and songs through the trees,
I'm still waiting
for the fish to gurgle back...

Cpat Hair winds these roads,
in thoughts of who knew where,
when,
and if there was a poet
who brings a sense of quiet
anticipation
to our poetic world...

it is he, times 6,000....

Congratulations, Cap'n...

6000... hadn't noticed but does go to show how long suffering Ron is and how you just can't hush some people up...

you're kind Sunshine... and I thank you for the kindness...

Congrats Ron...thanks for all the inspiration your writing has given my moody muse. Its appreciated more that words can say.

Overheated

Jake was taking a shortcut through
the red clay canyon pass, when he
came upon Travis's jeep parked in
the rocky dried out creek gully.

The old Cherokee had a
head of steam coming
out from under the hood,
but Travis was no where in sight.

Jake figured the engine overheated
and Travis was down at the river cooling
off until the truck did. He drove the dry
creek bed till it became impassable and
then walked in the summer's scorching sun
till he came up on the river ridge.

He cursed the heat and
then he cursed Travis ...
thinking his old friend better
appreciate the rescue and ride.

As he came upon the river bank
he saw Travis ... then he saw
his sister Iambe, skinny dipping up
under the tree line. The jade water looked
like glass except for the ripples coming
from their playful splashing.

It was hard to tell where he stopped and
where she started, they were wrapped
around each other and so wrapped up
in each other, that they didn't see him
walk up on them, and he intended to
let it stay that way.

He quietly headed back to his truck,
he knew his friend was in good hands.
Iambe would get his old truck's motor
running again ... just the same way
she had Travis's motor revving
back there at the river.

Of that, and the sunburn they would
both have ... he had no doubt.
