Here is another link to a poetry forum which is promoting "peace poetry", also affliated with the Poets Against The War campaign!

So I urge you all, submit your sincere heartfelt messages, this is urgent, for the more they get, the more support we will offer to the victims of this cruel war campaign!

Love,
Noah Eaton

At the risk of being strung up... I have to ask a question or two.

1. Your child is playing in the playground after school and you let them. each night they play there but you hear reports that another kid there has a gun. Do you simply turn the playground over to the rumor and the other kid with the gun or do you confront them and try to make the playground a safer place for all?

2. You have relatives in the same city as you. Over the years you have worked in many parts of the city as a policeman. Sometimes making enemies, sometimes making terrible mistakes in how you handled things. As time goes by, some of those people you have "wronged" through your efforts to do what you thought was right are sending threatening letters to your relatives. Your spouse is afraid to open packages, Your father and mother are afraid to walk the streets for fear of being attacked. Do you close your eyes allow those people to continue? Do you allow what happened in the past due to your bad judgement keep you from pursuing the people that are threatening?

No one wants war I think... or very few people... but I can not protest against it
only mourn the fact it may indeed be what it takes.

now.. I'll stand here and let everyone line up to throw tomatoes at me...

I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a place where I can post my pro-war poetry?

I believe Downing Street is accepting submissions, Blair will probably use them as undeniable evidence.

"War doesn't determine who's right, it determines who's left."

Don't know who said that originally, I've heard it floating around.  I do agree with it, though.  If war can be avoided, it should be.

Noah, I'll see if I can write anything for the cause... thank you for the heads-up.

I may not agree with this administrations reasons for the war, but, Ron, you put it very, very well.

There's no way to stop a war machine once it gets its tank filled, but it's a nice gesture.

Tomatoes, Ron??? Not a chance... But if I had roses, I might toss a few of those your way. *S* Needed said... well said. *S*

I sent this to Toe earlier this week... the rest of you might as well suffer it, too. *G*

I can't think of a single time through history when people... and here I mean ordinary people who're just wanting to live their lives... WANTED war. But with no war, this country we love so much wouldn't exist. It was bought for us with the blood of soldiers. With no war, we'd probably not be a democracy and certainly not have the freedom to protest war... our way of life and our freedom are gifts to us from those who fought wars they certainly didn't want.

So this is my "poetic" contribution...

I've never been a soldier... but I've stood and waved goodbye.
I've never been out on the front... but I've prayed and I've cried.
I don't make the decisions... the future's in another's hands
And my gut wrenches watching others leave for foreign lands
But I believe in freedom and I know it can be lost
I'll pray for peace... but more, I'll pray for those who'll pay its cost.

Hey all,
By all means, write which ever kind of poetry you like, pro-war or again' it, and be quick about it.
(With one more excuse, this administration will take more severe steps to shut off your freedom of speech, or at least your freedom of movement, US citizen or otherwise.)
But please, let's leave the _mongering and the strawmen out of this, ok?  It contributes only to misunderstanding and flock behavior.  Let's be better than that.
There are a great many innocent lives at stake here, not to mention grave social consequences.

Some of us would prefer to risk our lives to protest war, some would prefer to risk their lives in war, and some of us have done both and know the difference.

Oh, and by the way, there are indeed many who want war, just listen to them.
But I doubt it is the people of Iraq who have no food, no water and no electricity.

One promoting the deaths of civilians can not be considered poetic. Those caught up in the frustrated vengeance of 9/11 have played into the hands of this illegally appointed regime, it's faux crusade, it's oily self serving motives. Those jaunty days of epaulets prancing off, lancers raised, in defense of all that's white are archaic. While resistance to this slaughter swells expect the "terror alerts" to become more crimson. What does it say that well known, respected and published poets intended to confront this in the house where such decisions are made? Are we yet so naive to think that some jackass gentleman's agreement to not assassinate world leaders is why Iraq's leader remains so? That slaughtering civilians is the only alternative? Please, all those in favor of this "war" (remember the last one? It's speedy and decisive conclusion? This one will take minutes) go to the nearest mirror and repeat "I want people to die".
North Korea has nuclear capabilities, seems anxious to use them, look far more different than we and talk even funnier than the Iraqi's. So why are they not the focus for your wrath? I know why they aren't a priority for the petroleum president.
I no longer advocate the murder of anyone but the lesser evil would be to assassinate what has consistently been the fly in the oi(l)ntment, Saddam Hussein. Please don't suggest it can't be done, please don't be that naive.

Henri: Do you honestly believe there's a soul among us... and I'm talking about our poetic community here... that WANTS war? I know for damn sure I don't... I would love for this to be resolved peacefully.
But I've long since learned that what I want and what is necessary may not be the same thing... and I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and pretend that terrorists won't be supplied with their every need if I just don't look.
Yes, poets should use their God-given abilities with words... but they should also use their minds and common sense.
I do NOT want war... but neither do I want to lose our way of life. And that's not a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11... my pathway to supporting this action has been such a rocky one my feet are bleeding... but unless a miracle happens and Saddam dies, is killed, or leaves office, I will support the people sent to oust him with every fiber of my being... The one thing I never want to see again is our soldiers vilified... they deserve better if only for the reason that their sacrifices are what gives us the freedom to sit here safely flapping our jaws.
For the record, you're not the first to consider me not poetic... I'm humbled by the talent on these boards and know my place near the bottom of the pyramid. But if you think I'm promoting the deaths of civilians... or even promoting war... you're blinded by your own agenda.

And M'toe... the deadline is an arbitrary one set for one particular bandwagon... Voices and pens won't be silenced after Wednesday... whatever opinions they share.

(chuckling) Suthern... you are poetic... so quit talking trash about not being....

Henri...
It's easy at times to want to put things in a black or white box. I do not think our actions or our ideals are black and white and you would get little to any argument about how past actions on the part of OUR country may have in fact put us in this very place. I look in the mirror each day and wonder who the old fart is looking back at me. I assure you... I do not want to kill people...nor to contribute to the misery of others. I will also however, tell you that no matter what I want or don't want, the choice is not completely mine or simply the Presidents to make. I'm guessing you had no problem turning your back on the Iraqui use of chemical weapons on the Kurds and Iranians because you were not being asked to support of sacrifice. They were so far away..and it was their business..not yours.
I'm also guressing that the tales of torturing political prisoners and opposition leaders by Iraq didn't seem your concern either. They did, after all, know the risks and if they have to pay the price, it wasn't your decision nor your fault.

(chuckling) I'm not picking a fight... nor trying be a butt... I just read your statements and while they have truths in them, seem to be over simplifying an issue and an understanding that is as much the fault of the US as it is Iraq. As for assassination ... I understand that we have or the opposition forces have tried..and failed.

Speak up..speak loud and voice your concerns your opposition. I encourage all that feel that way to do so. Just remember when it comes time or if it comes time for our soldiers to fight...that they do so under orders..and don't blaim them. They will be doing their job. NOT a pretty job... but one they are trained to do and one that if they did not do...we might not enjoy the freedom to voice our opposition to this or any other issue.

I stand with Ron on this issue...I'm not for war but I think we need to confront those who would seek to destroy us...what we have is worth protecting...I say this knowing that battle may expand to involve my own son and his friends...and that frightens the hell out of me..

believe in what your heart feels...

(sigh) Yes Suthern, you are right and I should clarify that: Wednesday the 12th is an important day because that is the day the U.N makes their final decision on if we are officially going to war or not. That is why it is important to submit your thoughts, the more support and participation the more we can push back this unnecessary act!

Love,
Noah Eaton
