Lyra (Madame Chipmunk) approached me and asked if I would put this into announcements on her behalf.  She had told all her friends how elated she was that her cancer was gone and has now found out some rather bad news that some cancer still remains but the good news is that it is microscopic and there isn't very much of it, but her doctor still wants to remove all of “her stuffing”, including her bladder.  However, her doctor is also involved in a phase 1 clinical trial for a cancer vaccine and she is going to try to find out if Lyra may qualify for.  There is one problem - Lyra may not be sick enough to qualify as it is usually used as salvage treatment for patients who are too sick for any other treatments.   She is tough, and is going to do all that she can to try to get into those trials, as the alternative is a very dangerous life altering surgery, which takes 10 hours and the recovery time from it is approximately 2 months.

Now she wanted to explain what happens if she doesn’t go for the clinical trials, and that would mean them removing her bladder and she would be carrying on her a bag at all times, which as a woman she can’t deal with that aspect of all this.  Her worst fear is having people know and adjust all the clothes she wears, but we discussed this at length and came to some fun ways to disguise it if need be J.

She wants to go on the trip to Florida in September so badly that she says and I quote, “It actually might KILL me to miss that because I have been living for that vacation for so long now.  In addition to the poet meet, we are going to visit my mother and my cousins in Miami, my high school friend in Washington, DC, and my friend, Rich...who has the same cancer as I have and has had the surgery.  He lives in Atlanta...and we are also planning to stop in North Carolina to see Juanita (North Carolina Girl) and her son, Stevie (Sodpossum).   I met them at Moontown Cafe, another poetry website and we have been friends for almost 2 yrs.”

Well folks, that is it, and she was scared to tell you this having told you she was okay, can you believe that?  Let’s all pray really hard that she gets into those clinical trails and she gets her wish to go to the poet’s gathering in Florida in September.  But Lyra, I know you will read this, and if the other is the only option – honey, we all love and support you and you will indeed overcome!

Hugs to Lyra, and thank you all for reading this.  I know she would love to get your supportive emails and cards, as she isn’t feeling that great right now with the pneumonia bout and this news, but she had David, (her husband), Victor (her son), and her huge family here to support her.

Thank you all.

Oh, Lyra's email address is: chatterbox413@earthlink.net

Madame C, it comes to mind that you are a survivor, and you are also a teacher.  You will long be here, teaching us how to cope, survive, get through, dig the tunnel to the light if we must...but through it all, you do it with compassion, grace, kindness, and a sense of charity that is sometimes hard to come by.  You will be in our prayers, even when you are in good health!  Why?  Because we love you....

Lyra,
We didn't need more evidence to know that life is not fair. This is no time for pride you know...we are your friends and long to support you in hard times. I have a sneaking suspicion you have been wrong before. And I'd like to see you live long enough to be wrong many more times.

I can't begin to relate to what you are dealing with. I know I wanted to trade places with Ginger as you probably did with your son. But now you are dealing with life threatening decisions. I am so sorry it is like this.

I'm not sure how one goes about deciding what to do. Given your options I do worry for you. Please know that I am praying for you to make the right choice and have my friends praying for you as well. Fear is so uncomfortable. But you have demonstrated much courage in your life for others and now I exhort you to use that same courage for yourself. I also pray you may have peace when your decision is made. Please feel free to lean on me. Much love...Larry C

Show you care to those you love...today.

You know, the neat thing about rodents, such as the chipmunk...THEY ARE RISILIENT!  My prayers are with you, Lyra, and I wish for the very best outcomes.  Chin up, and when it's a little too difficult to raise, depend on your family and friends for that boost.  Obsticals are what make us stronger, dear, and you are one of the strongest I believe!

I didn't post my prayers Lyra, and you know how I feel as I understand your viewpoint as a woman which we discussed.  But on that note women are incredible beings, and when someone tries to change our "dress code" man can we improvise! and I will be there to help you sewing machine in hand to make this fashion statement livable, and you know I will!  GOD is a powerful force, and through prayers a lot can happen, and it looks to me like you have a huge circle of love and prayers around you to protect you sweetie.  You are a strong lady, and whatever decision comes your way you are going to do what is best for Lyra and you will be supported in it.  HUGE hugs.

in my thoughts and prayers....  Life is
more precious than vanity.  No matter what,
we all will still love you and admire you

Sharon...thanks so very much for posting this for me...
I don't know why I feel so weird about telling everyone that its not really gone, its just that 2 weeks ago, I made such a big fuss about how it was!  But, the tumor is still gone, its just that some cells got left behind.....
You are such a sweetheart for doing this.

Nan...thanks so much for all of your support and also....of course for all of your work in making this website as wonderful as it is.

Nancy...I know that the prayers haven't stopped and, in fact....I can still feel them coming through loud and clear.....it must be your special magic....thanks so much

Irie...I don't know you very well, but thank you so much for your prayers....

Karilea...Actually I do have a teaching degree....I guess now I must graduate again and this time with a survivor's degree...
Thanks so much for all of your prayers and your love

Mr.Squirrel...thanks so much for your blessings...It means a lot to a chipmunk to get a blessing from a squirrel

Larry...thanks so much for your prayers and also for your invitation to lean on you...
I really appreciate having you as a brother

Sue...Thanks so much for all of your support.
When I need someone to talk to at 3 AM, I'll be sure to call you and you will be sorry you ever told me to do that...LOL...
I would never really do that to you...I would wake poor David up instead as I have done in the past.

Sydney...thanks so much for your prayers...
and chipmunks are very resiliant...we have to be because we have to tunnel into the ground in order to make our houses...

Martie...Thanks so much for all of your caring and your prayers...They mean so much to me.

Sharon...Will that be a cyber sewing machine?
We can have all kinds of fun designing things online.  Actually one of the primary reasons for my reluctance for the surgery comes from a letter which my urologist wrote to my primary care doc ( I received a copy ) which said that she wasn't even sure that the surgery would help that much.  This makes me feel like I am sacrificing my lifestyle, plus going through a very dangerous surgery for very little benefit...
So, I have a lot to think about....and I definitely intend to get into that clinical trial for the vaccine...

Suetang...thanks so much for your wishes and thoughts

PDV...Thanks so much for all of your prayers.
I know that everything happens for a reason, but its really hard for me to figure out a reason for this one...maybe someday, I will.

Barry...Thanks so much for your prayers...and its really not all vanity.  This is a very dangerous surgery and according to a letter my urologist sent to my primary care doc, she's not even sure that the surgery will help....
Its like spending $9.00 to buy$10.00 and risking everything just for $1.00

Thanks for your prayers, Tracey...and I am going to make it my business to get into that trial.

special thank you hugs to all of you.

Michael and Sy.....
I am planning and have been planning to see you guys in September.
If my doctor thinks that she is going to do this surgery before then (it takes 2 months to recover), she will have to catch me first.....and chipmunks run very fast.
What I must do, is force my way into that clinical trial.
I have, so far...pushed people around and rattled cages to get every treatment I have gotten.
When I was first diagnosed, they told me that it might be TB, cancer or TB and cancer and they were going to make me prove that I didn't have TB....
I knew I didn't have TB....anyway, thats a long story and I'll tell you the whole thing in Florida in September.....
In the meantime, I will be rattling more cages and knocking down more doors to get into that clinical trial for the cancer vaccine..............and, I know that it will work.
I have recently learned that my urologist is intimidated by me....
Yesterday, when she called with the results and David answered the phone, he asked if she could tell him, and he said that she sounded relieved that she didn't have to talk to me...
I have felt for some time, that she was afraid of me.....
I guess she doesn't like rodents

can't wait to see you in Florida hugs

Life isn't always fair
That's why you have us to share
your thoughts and fears, our love
Carried by the white dove
Up to Heaven and down to you
Because I think
Your loving God cares for you too

In my thoughts I'll hold you tight dear friend and when you cry on my shoulder, I'll cry with you

Donna...thanks so much for your prayers...but I just want to let you and everyone else know that this isn't really a setback.  Its just new knowledge that hadn't come to light before we got the pathology report from the biopsy.
There is STILL no tumor...just some isolated cells which the radiation failed to catch.
These cells aren't even as evil as the original ones they got from my first biopsy last October.
~ thanking you hugs

Suthern...thanks so much for your prayers....
You are definitely hitting the right target.
I really think that the vaccine will kill those cells and keep me from having some disfiguring surgery...

Faterider...
thank you so much for your prayers...
I just wanted you to know that this isn't a setback.  The tumor is gone, it hasn't come back.  Its just that the biopsy revealed that some errant cells got left behind.
This was always a possiblility.
And even those cells are not as lethal as the original ones were...
~ hugs and grins

Kellie...
I thank you so very much for your prayers and for your lovely compliment.  I too, hope that someday we can meet in person.
What I am praying for right now, is that I will be accepted into the cancer vaccine clinical trial at the University of Michigan.
It probably won't start until later this summer or early this fall....but something inside of me is telling me that it will definitely work for me...
Just as I knew that the radiation would work, and it did.
~ hugs from my heart
