OH Lordy....KA!!!!
No...I didnt sweep anything...
(sen's a poet...she uses poetic license)
There was a couple local contests and I had the opportunity to get some good advice and critique and I won some groovy gift certificates that I can buy new tunes and poety books with
I have a friend a local collge here and she says lots of contests are held nation wide like these...so you guys might want to check it out in your area.
Its a great learning tool.

Thank you everyone VERY much ...
and SEA...your poetry would represent you well and stand up fine..dont sell yourself short... and that goes for anyone else who thinks they shouldnt try

The poems entered were:
"Admirations Trace"
"Admiration of Inspiration"
"Butterfly Season"
"Butterfly Promises"
and in a different smaller contest ...
"In Rhythm With The Rain" & "Unrequited"

There were several contests and it will be awhile before I hear back on all the results.
But like I said above...I didnt realize there were so many "local" poetry events going on as they dont get the widespread coverage like things we hear about on-line.
Local colleges and bookstores and poetry/writing publications often have contests or take submissions but the announcements are posted on bulletin boards or back pages of small local newspapers.
So you have to do some research to find them.
A lot of the Borders, Barnes and Nobles as well as the University's are having live poetry reads and promoting poetry "awareness"
Most I've seen so far give small prize money
and gift certificates, but also your work is sometimes seen by local publishers, editors, English/Lit. professors and so on so its a chance to get some feed back as a learning tool and maybe some exposure.
My friend who works at a local jr. college said that adult night classes of Poetry and Creative writing enrollements have doubled and tripled in the last couple years.
So....there IS poetry beyond the pretty blue screen!! WHO KNEW?   LOL
Anyway...check out things in your town, its a great way to see what others who live in your area are inspired by and see the influences of your hometown. Also a great way to get some feed back from people who "work in the industry"
Thanks guys  ...and KA?

at the risk of offending your modesty further--I wish you would tell everyone how many of them "placed" sigh...and poetic liscence?
