I know nothing about either politics or international security. I have no knowledge of any of the things that go on within our governments and therefore must and will trust that our leaders will decide what is best. Let them handle it. It's what they do best. Nonetheless, I asked myself what can I do as a human being to help our governments in these difficult times. What can I do to make this a better world and help humanity to defeat terrorism?

All of a sudden a voice from the past recited, "Find what makes an organization strong and you'll find it can be turned into its weakness."  Hmm... an interesting thought, but what makes these terrorists "strong"?  It's most certainly not political conviction or religion. This evil event on September 11th was nothing like any terrorist acts we've seen all over the world until this very day. No demands were made or hostages used for "trading." The evil event on Tuesday, September 11th was an act of pure destruction, intended to kill as many as possible and strike America with terror and horror where it would hurt most - preferably leaving the world in shock. Destruction of life and buildings, hoping to leave the free West in disarray and despair in order to ruin everything we value in the long run, would leave the rest of the world in fear with the knowledge, "If this can happen to the USA, it can happen to any of us." It made no difference as long the destruction was as complete as possible.

Buildings can be rebuilt. A city can rise from its ashes. Everything "material" can be replaced, but not life. It must have been the purpose of these terrorists to take as many lives as possible, considering the hour they chose for their horrific attack, and they made no difference! They made no difference in nationality - religion - age - gender, or education.

No difference at all!

What is the most important thing we've learned about these terrorists?

They have a total contempt for life and make no difference at all!

I started wondering how we, mankind, can change this so-called "strength" into a "weakness" and use it as a weapon to destroy terrorism - wipe it from the world. The answer to this question is so incredibly simple and feasible I felt somewhat silly for not thinking of it before.

Change "total contempt for life" to "love and respect for life" and "make no difference at all!"

If we can only reach out worldwide in love and respect for each other, a worldly peace is bound to be the answer and terrorism will be wiped out.

Of course, this doesn't mean you all of a sudden have to agree with everybody on everything, but we can still respect one another even if we differ in opinion.

Of course, it doesn't mean you all of a sudden "love" everybody - run outdoors and start hugging everybody you see, but it won't hurt to show a friendly face and greet or smile to the people you see every day.

Of course, it doesn't mean Christians should start praying to "Allah" and Muslims pray to "God", but we can respect each other's  religion. I have never heard, nor read about any religion that speaks of; "Go and destroy those who believe differently." ALL religions speak of love, not of destruction; and those who "read" this in their religion are what we call "extreme" and do not understand what religion is about. I have no "God" I pray to or "Allah" to call upon, but I do believe in a Higher Power. I do believe in Good and Evil and it is my firm belief it makes no difference who you turn to in prayer, as long as you represent "good." We all have to find our own path in life and a different path doesn't make it wrong, just different.

Of course, it doesn't mean that when someone hurts you intentionally you cannot say what's on your mind; but let it be from one human to another and not because of colour of skin, religion, or simply because you're wearing the wrong clothes.

Let's just respect one another for who and what we are and add a little love wherever possible.

If we can do just that - reach out world-wide and respect each other as human beings, in spite of all our differences - we can beat terrorism - we can wipe Evil from this world. That's what we can do to help our governments. That's what we can do as human beings. No Evil can conquer Good, so let's join hands and reach out.

Munda,

I think you've penned an excellent thought here and I'd offer you these two remarks from a great American leader:

quote:
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Darkness can not drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

-- Martin Luther King Jr.

There needs to be two phases to this though  -- there can be no peace without justice -- first we have a sniper to get out of the trees -- after that we have to fight the war with peace -- its the only way.

You may want to read the link I put under the thread 'Why Radical Islam Hates Us' to get a better understanding of what this is going to entail though.

Best wishes

Bless you!....you have shown great result in your faith of a higher power! By searching your heart. Which is what all should do. Seek inside our hearts, where all our beliefs should live and let it live on the outside as well. I would love to join this cirlce of understanding.

But...Just a question... Are you saying that we should let our government shoulder all the rough and horrible stuff? Then who in this country would ever want to rise up and run for an office that is bound to not be a voice for the people? Since we then would not believe in anything but peace and love. And there will always be rough and horrible stuff. Since the beginning of time.

I don't know a lot about politics either. But I know from a parental standpoint....a small but extremely important structure of administering family policy, I love and respect my children, but when it's time to  correct, I don't always want to be the heavy! I have to have my husband's support to carry out the task in order to be consistent and firm. And....as mine are teens now...confident! And likewise goes for him as well. He would not be a leader if I tore down and undermined his attempts, even if my intentions were good.

I just don't think it's fair to say to our heads of office, "You do it!" We don't believe in fighting back or seeking guilty lives if it will shed blood.

I'm just trying to think through this. As it would be an injustice to all if I did not think all things through clearly.

I feel your post is the greatest start! And very hope inspiring. I greatly admire you and your vision. As you pointed out many things that do make sense. But there are things that will happen to us that will never make sense.

But we must not be closed minded or tunnel visioned, even in peace and love....we must be watchful of another Hitler, for he quite enjoyed his task, and would take it up again if he were still here.

I agree, we should look past our differences and join hands across the world. That is the greatest thing we can do...if only all would just take that hand and not try to slay who it belongs to.

Thank you for sharing and offering your heart and peace. Your efforts may have just started a new beginning. May peace be the strongest voice there is!

Peace and Love,
Regina

Local Rebel,

Yes, I do believe there can be no peace without justice, but what if the tree is full of sniper look-alikes?  Do you destroy them all - perhaps even the tree - or do you find the real sniper?
And thank you for that link. It was a most interesting read.

Rw,

"Are you saying that we should let out governments shoulder all the rough and horrible stuff?"

No this is not what I am saying at all. I'm merely stating, even though I know a little about world politics, I have no complete overview of the situation and trust our governments to make the right decisions. I truly believe they are most aware of the domino effect the smallest decision may have on the world situation and I refuse to believe they will "sacrifice" innocent lives for the "good" of retaliation. It's my firm belief they will decide what's best for the "world" and, since I cannot help them in these difficult decisions, I can only fight terrorism in my own way by showing respect and a little love.

Fantastic reply! On both parts...I respect you and applaud you! Peace and Love is truly felt here. Trust is the key. And I feel I can trust these efforts. But I'm not yet able to trust the world. My problem I know. But your view has brought me miles closer.
Thank you!

Sincerely,
Regina

We look for the smoking gun munda -- due process is our way of life and we use that -- and that's what we're doing.  That's why we have over 4000 FBI agents investigating this crime against humanity and why we're being assisted by the intelligence forces of every country in the free world.
