Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, September 14, 2001 has been designated here in the United States as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for those killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

I have heard and seen that this day has also been set aside in other countries as well because there were not only Americans killed in this attack. . .there were Australians, English, Germans, and countless others. . .

Therefore, I would ask all the members of this Community, here and in the many countries that you represent, to go out into your neighborhoods, your cities, wherever you are, and that you join us in this day and make it a Worldwide Day of Prayer and Remembrance

We, as poets, as artists, as singers, as musicians, as peaceful people, we can make a difference.  Our words, our songs, our hearts can give comfort to those who are sad, can offer hope to those who feel that there is none. . . can shine the light of peace and justice to a dark and lonely world. . .

Thank you all my friends. . . it is because of all of you that I am proud and honored to be a member of this worldwide community that is Passions in Poetry.

Namaste. . . Shalom. . . God be with you. . .

As I sit in my classroom now, I hear a barrage of jets being deployed from Otis Air Force Base at the perimeter of my hometown.

In another hour, at noon, I shall join with my students and colleagues in a moment of silence - in prayer and in reverence to the massive losses we have all experienced this week.

At 3:30 EST, we will have a moment of silence here at my place of employment in Michigan for those killed. . .

It is times like these that the full measure of who we are is tested. . . let us be not found lacking. . .
