Hi for the rest of you out there who don't know about poetry.com.  I'd like to pass on a small warning.  Myself, Janet Marie and Avanti all entered recent competitions and have all 'qualified'
as semi finalists with the heavily repeated often option of being 'published' in their own special collector's poetry book.  It is $70 U.S. dollars but as a contributor we can have it for the generous price of $50.
I was excited but wary, contacted Ron and it is a sham in conjuction with a certain book company.
Please enter comps sure, just be wary.
Others at Passions have been stung in the past too.
And apparently there have been plenty of newspaper articles about all this.  Many have been stung financially and emotionally.
So please tell any friends who enter comps too.  Best advice is to thoroughly research all places before you enter a piece of work.

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......

Very true folks....also beware of The National Library Of Poetry. All they want to do is sell books.

poetry.com is not only the national library of poetry but it is also the international library of poetry ...I found out the hatd way ...paid the price got the book and then felt used... and now they send me things in the mail all the time ...I'm some ridiculous non existent status  (slips my mind at the moment) and they will publish my next poem sight unseen  based solely on my merit for only $50 !!! lmao

Most publishers in truly legit contests  pay YOU in copies, etc  you should not have to pay to have your work published, though some contests do charge  reading fees which is a standard proceedure ...

live and learn I suppose ... I learned the hard way

I have heard from several poets on other sites that is, of course, making the rounds.  They like to hit hard during April/Poetry Month...

please be careful, everyone.  You are paying them to pick randomly, say you are wonderful, and then fork over your dollars that will only show up in a book or two...

I can testifie to this.  It is a scam.  I had some stuff published through them and they sent me a copy of the poem I had written for my father (our greatest heroe)
and sent it back edited and corrected and when they published it, it was not corrected and entire lines were missing.  It is a sad lesson learned....so I pass this on to you all, POETRY.COM is not legit as far as I can see.  Just jumping in to warn ya"ll.  Hugs.

oh man, I know all about poetry.com

Last year, I submitted my poem "A loss of a heart" to them and they mailed me a letter asking if they can publish it in their upcoming book. I was pretty ecstatic so I signed my initials and sent it back to them, but I declined when they asked me to purchase the book for $50. The next notice said that it was published in a book (they told me the name of the book) and said I could find it in my local bookstore/library.
I went to check and no such book existed.
Boy, was I mad.

I am floored by this as I recieved a check in the mail from poetry.com which cleared the bank and the money is in my bank account as we speak. I also recieved the book that my poem was published in and the book was beautifully arranged. I am not sure what happened but whatever occured with you all is a crime. For myself, I recieved $200.00 and a free copy of the book and CD set that my poem was recorded on and set to music. So for me, it was great... I feel bad for the rest of you however.
