I need to ask that my friends here at PiP gather in circle of prayer vigil for my sis-in-law, Betty Beck~
She is my Bill's sister.

Betty was taken to the hospital with severe, excruciating pain in her lower back.
After many days of testing a diagnosis has finally been made.

She has a very rare infection of the peripheral nerves, called Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
World-wide it is only found in one or two people per 100,000.

Had she not gone to the hospital, she could have been totally paralyzed and possibly even worse as death can occur without a blood exchange that is the treatment she had done.

At this time, she cannot walk but is in an intense rehabilitation program that will hopefully rebuild her muscle strength.

Here is a link that will tell you about this disease.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/guillain-barre-syndrome/DS00413/DSECTION=all&METHOD=p rint

Please lift Betty in prayer that she continues to make progress and hopefully gains the muscle control back that will allow her to walk again.

*Huglets* and great appreciation.

Betty I am send you prayers and have asked God and his angels to surround you, protect you and make you strong.

I am familiar with this disease as I have MS and they are 'somewhat' similar.

Be well ... Marti from New England

My heart is warmed just hearing your name, Betty.  Betty, was my favorite late aunt and my husband's sweet late aunt(on his dad's side). Now his fun, active 81 year young Aunt Betty (on his mom's side) just moved here from Ohio.

May God grant you the strength to cope with your disease and treatments, while He assures you of His great love for you, Betty. It sounds as though you've been through the worst of it and are now headed in a more positive direction.  God bless you and yours.

Marge, I'll include her in my prayers but tell her to keep the faith as a friend of mine also had the same diagnosis and symptoms and ended up making a complete recovery. I pray she is as fortunate

Friends~
Thank you all for the prayers for Betty and her husband, Fred~

*sigh* ... yesterday afternoon, apparently the nurse forgot to put up a bed rail and Betty fell out of the bed~

Not having use of her muscles, she could not get up by herself ... finally help came and they placed her back on the bed~

Not sure of the setbacks from the fall at this point ... but when I have more information, I'll update~

Her husband is working on moving her to a rehab center next week, if she continues to make progress~

Betty's strong motivation to get better is her desire to again ride her horse, Bandit~
Hopefully that will happen, though we all are aware that it will take sometime to regain the use of her muscles~

I've shared your messages with her and she is most appreciative~

That was so careless! I hope they fire the one who was so careless. Those places don't need people like that there. I hope she didn't get hurt. Did they take an ex-ray to make sure she didn't break anything?

Dear Marge:  What a terrible thing to happen to Betty. Sheer negligence! As if things weren't bad enough for her. I am praying extra hard that this will not keep her from recovery and once again riding her horse.

I, too, am  hoping she has made some progress...I do know from family experience how hard it is to "bounce" back from the illness...and those by her side  MUST make sure the care she is given is "excellent".

Thank you dear people for finding this and leaving wonderful comments~
(Geoffrey ... so nice to see you here too)

I should have come back in and done an update to this ... but I will now -

Betty was released to home-care, with almost daily therapy~
She is try so hard to get back her strength and mobility~

That hasn't happened just yet ... she continues to have excruciating pain that prevents her from even sleeping~

She is confined to a wheelchair and hopefully some solution will be found (besides more morphine and muscle relaxants) to give her some pain relief~

We will be having Thanksgiving dinner with Betty, her husband, her sister Bee and her husband and Bill and I~

Betty has a birthday to celebrate the day after Thanksgiving ... and she is the youngest in Bill's family ... so we sure are praying that she gets better~

Thank you all for remembering her in your prayers ... she needs them~
It is going to take a LONG time ...~

We are thankful that she is home~

May each of you have a blessed Thanksgiving with those you love~

My word! What an ordeal for your sister-in-law, Betty! I regret not reading this post earlier so that I could have been a part of pip's prayer circle. Well, better late than never!

.  .  .  .  .   Prayers have now been sent for her comfort, and peace of mind ~ and a FULL recovery.

How unfortunate it was that the nurse neglected to put the bed railing up. That must have been both painful and terrifying for her.

Sending my love, prayers, and healing hugs her way,

Linda
