ummmm....cornflowers...

Postponing Inevitabilities

This
is the dust-ridden road
waiting for the imprint
of your feet
and mine.

We either take it
or we do not

there’s no turning back
nor veering left, or right…

do not hide your eyes
by looking for the honeysuckle
or trumpet vines,

and laze not with the gentian
or cornflowers,
do not hide in their blue, again,

for it’s full bore, straight ahead,
damn the torpedoes
[add your own cliché]
believe it or not

but

if I vote “go”
and you vote “stay”

do we then
cancel each other out?

And fade away?

...thanks, Cap'n....
for bringing one of my own
memories back for me.

very nice Ms Sun....
funny how one set of words can bring back our own set of memories, or inspire us to write...
your words are always welcome here, as are anyone's.

enjoyed these... a great deal.

Curse this black dog that follows
devouring my shadow as it tugs
to pull me back into the realm of stone
where heartbeats do not but echo
the coursing of colder blood
denied the warmth as comes
of souls that touch

My shadow mocks the sun
being only darker as it bleeds
the grey it can't contain
upon the remaining green
turning it a paler sound
of fugues to herald mad march to brown

Call off the watchman's cur
I have saved 13 pieces of silver
to pay the ferries toll
but now
my shadow tattered by such black teeth
has forgotten who I am

and wandered
afar

Oh, so dark, so intense... you do gloomy so well! This is an excellent work, IMO. I like the understated despair, the layerings of shade and shadow, meaning, metaphor... wow.

Thanks ma'am.. Winston Churchill, so I have read, suffered from depression and called it his black dog... I've used the term a few time in writing but certainly credit for the image goes to Mr. Churchill not me.

If then you have called upon Churchill...

you've done well in conveying the madness
that may have deluded [delighted?] his brain.

Well done, Sir.

If this was introspective poetry?   Then I hope you are okay, my friend... and that those black dogs are indeed only mahogany in the light of day, and sleeping tamed and peaceful on the braided wool rug by the fire.

Thanks for the concern Ms Amaryllis and the hug :-)

Yes it was in part introspective, but I'll live... some days the black dog forgets where its kennel is I suppose.

I appreciate your concern and you kind words

Ah tomorrow; it unfolds
like an early crocus
pushing through the pebbled snow,
just a thrust of green, then
purple fans
reach in certain joy
for the air,
opening their lids
to gaze in golden wonder
at the scudding skies.
