Cpt

I smacked a lady's car while changing lanes. The damage is on the drivers side front just behind the headlight. Now, when I am going around a curve or trying to accelerate too fast the car doesn't seem to be getting power to the engine.  The car sort of drags and makes a noise near the front drivers side tire while the ESP warning light either blinks or stays on continuously for a few minutes.  My steering wheel is also cocked to the side when my wheels are straight. I would like to think it is a matter of an alignment, but a man in the service dept of Volkswagon dealership said it sounds like I might have damaged a control module. According to the internet there are serveral control modules in that car. *sigh* I hope I haven't damaged it too badly. I LOVE my Jetta.

Oh, Its an 05 Jetta, automatic.

It slowed down going through a light the other day so badly that I had to put on my hazard lights.

It's tough to say without looking at the damage exactly what the problem may be. My guess is it is more than one thing.
The sensors will automatically slow the engine to help control the roll of the body. A feature designed to help with cornering and reduce roll overs. A damaged sensor might well be the cause and for safety sake, should be inspected by a qualified mechanic and repaired. You probably do need an alignment and there is always the chance that the impact of the crash damaged the constant velocity joint used to transmit power from the tranaxle to the wheels.

If you love the car... take it in and have them give you an estimate as to the total cost. Continued driving isn't going to make it better... car unlike people don't heal themselves. Like people however, once injured, putting strain on the injuries often leads to other ones..

Good Luck..I know I probably didn't give you the answer you were looking for.

Thank you for the info. I took the car to a licensed import mechanic who is local(dealership wanted too much to diagnose it) and he said it needed an alignment. Diagnosis and alignment only costed around 100$ total. Thank goodness. The light went out soon after i got the alignment today, and it is running great. I do LOVE my Jetta but sooo expensive to fix if its major stuff. I know I have a good and safe running car though. it has like 6 or 8 airbags etc...Love it! Thanks again.
