What are your comfort foods?

---

When I am down, I like to make a big pot of homemade vegetable beef soup.  I love to peel and chop the veggies; and I find peace in the feeling of satisfaction when I have a big pot of soup simmering on the stove.

And, yes, I eat my first cup with the sugar spoon firmly in my grip.

Creamy things - Malt-o'Meal for one but no sugar...a nice skim of butter on that, please, yes! Mac 'n Cheese. Lasagna. Chili. Clam chowder. Fresh mushrooms sauteed in a little butter. Mexican food...

You get the drift. Butter and cheesy things...

Oh man if I told you how many edanami beans I eat you would not believe it!  I am hooked on them, and the salt must have pickled my arteries by now.

Well, I usually refuse to eat anything besides cereal, so yeah, I guess cereal is me comfort food.

I read these replies with envy.

I don't have a comfort food.

I am an emotional non-eater.  *shrug* makes for a good weight control plan though.

Dear Spam, it's time to raise your banner high,
Eighth wonder of the world in oblong tin.
Let nations sing your praises as you fly
Much healthier than any vitamin.

Mysterious meat with texture all your own
Ingredients known only to a few,
One never will encounter trace of bone
While feasting on the wonderment of you.

Though porterhouse and t-bone may entreat
My mind to take a different point of view
I know that there can be no better meat
Available for nourishment than you.

Though connoisseur respected as I am
I never shall forsake the taste of Spam.

Oh man, that's wonderful. I think you inspired me to write of my first love, Velveeta Cheese.

By the way, Balladeer, I am struggling through the last assignment.

Roniece, I had friends visit from Australia, and they brought me jars and jars of Vegemite, so I tried it one morning.  I could not eat that stuff if I was starving to death!  I think its something you have to acquire a taste for maybe.   I know it is sure good for you though. Now, if we talk slippers, you guys make THE best!

However, I love drywors, and biltong from South Africa, and our family goes through bags and bags of the stuff.

Tapioca, or if I really need comfort desperately- slow baked rice pudding in Granny's old pyrex bowl, the kind you load with nutmeg and stir the skim (that forms on the top) in every 15 minutes for 2 hours or until creamy and delectable.

MYSTERIA!!!! I never ever expected to hear the words "dry wors" and "biltong" from you, a Canadian!  That lit up my day!

I don't have a comfort food.  But if I may state my favourite food instead (aside from the fact that I eat almost anything except hot curries and garlic)?  My top favourite food is mushrooms.  My second favourite food is mushrooms.  My third favourite food is mushrooms - preferably fried and with nothing else.  That way the percentage of mushrooms is 100%.

ROFLMAO at mushrooms...I love 'em, and could saute up a dish of 'em in butter and be blissfully happy...

last night my comfort food was a homemade Reuben sandwich...they came out perfect!

But lately I've been indulging in good ol' creamy cherry yogurt...

Karilea, at your enjoyment of the mushrooms.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a Reuben sandwich?

meh -- food is overrated. Like Susan, I don't eat when I'm stressed (no matter the cause). Of course, I don't eat all that much even when I'm not stressed, so it's not a big deal.

Smoking, on the other hand...
