I know, how dare I ask that! I'm just being curious again.

And no lying!

I'm 18.

Now, how old do you feel?

I feel like I'm not born yet; so maybe -3 months, heh.

I'm 40 years young. Feel half my age but don't even wish to be there again.

Gadgetry can make me feel dated. Newfangled stuff tends to come with a remote for me to lose and I really don't care to have a programmable life.

What I do have, I want it to work without all the bells and whistles, lasers, timers, sensors, password identifiers, etc.

I blame it all on the "Clapper."

I am old enough to know better, yet youong enough to do it (and get into trouble) anyhow.

How old do I feel??? Usually too old to know what I'm doing.

What would you attempt to do...if you knew you could not fail?.

Well since I haven't met an age I didn't like yet, though I've liked none of them enough to do them twice(well I was 27 twice, which means I was never 28 and that was a rip-off!)I am temporarily 57. No nearlys, almosts or halves in my world. But for those who don't know math I'll be 58 later this year. But for now I'm half-way to 114 and living proof it is never too late for a good childhood.

P.S. Mr. Grim, how many years experience do you have at being 18?

Oh I don't know Larry, not too many.

So Ess, you're either 114 years old, 72 years old or you're just messing with me again.

Man, so far I'm the youngest one on here. I know there has to be at least a few toddlers running around here somewhere.

In earlier periods of English the numbers 21 to 29, 31 to 39, etc, were referred to by saying the smaller part of the number first (e.g. the 1 of 21) and then saying the bigger number (e.g. the 20 of 21).  Thus "one and twenty" is twenty one, "two and twenty" twenty two, "three and twenty" twenty three, etc.  "Seven and twenty winters" is not that old

23, and I feel... 23. But I've kind of felt like I was this age for a while, and that as the years passed... I actually attained an "adult" enough age to justify my feelings? Does that make sense? But even though I've felt mature for a while, looking back shows that I felt much more mature than I was, and I'm sure the maturity of my actions is not quite on par with the maturity of my self-image. Sometimes, looking at it objectively and thorugh the lenses of those around me... 23 sometimes seems acceptably adult, and sometimes seems like I'm just a toddler. I meet a lot of old people in my career... and I can see that in my youth (and with an engagment ring on) I proceed into life full of promises and expectations... but meeting people who've been widowed multiple times, or divorced and remarried multiple times... makes me feel humble, fallible, and naive.

So... uh... I guess we'll see how it all works out in the end? This thread was more thought provoking than I expected.

I am new here, but I could not help noticing all the great answers pertaing to the question,"How old are you?"

Not too long ago I celebrated my 23 anniversaty of my 21 birthday.(That's 44)
My physical, mental, and actual age are seperate from each other.
Physically I should be 10 to 20 years older. At least that is what my body thinks.
Mentally I can be as old and wise as an owl, or as young and fresh like a spring chicken.
My actual age is that what I feel at the moment of action. Young or old or anywhere in the middle of the age line.
As young as I can feel in one moment of life, I can also feel as old in the next.
But one thing is for certain:
I refuse to grow up, it is more fun being a kid of any age than to be old and grumpy.

How old?

Chop me down
count the rings.

Listen to the song
my broken heart sings.

I'm a wee bit rough
more bark than byte.

At the end of the tunnel
I see a light.

If it's a train
I'm on the wrong track.

But it's too late now
for me to turn back.

I am 16, and on normal days I fell like I am 29. On bad days 57, and on days that are really, really good 17-20.
(I have lived through a lot of weird stuff.) I act anywhere from 7-57 and look like I’m 20ish (depending who you ask).  In comparative to my age I’m just a toddler

(I know, you shouldn’t feel so old 'cause you’re just a tot and im also dyslexic)

Age is relative to the measurement you use - dog years, number of spouses, ages of children - I like to gauge my age (rhyme!) by the number of times I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Once a night and I'm either dead or 19. Twice - I'm either 91 or 7. Three times - I'm either 65 or 3. Four times - I'm either 59 or 2.

Hmmm...Let's see...last night I got up at 12:30, 2:00, 3:15 and 4:30....yep! I'm 2!

Where's my blankie?

Well, according to psychic Sylvia Browne ~  actually, according to Sylvia Browne's spirit guide, Francine, every one in heaven is 39 years old. So, if I am an 'angel' (mind you it is of the earthiest variety!), then I must be 39! Hey, I just realized that Jack Benny used to say that he was perpetually 39!!! I hadn't realized that he was an angel! Go figure!

So there you have it! I'm thirty-nine and stopped counting! lol

I just had another thought! If Sylvia Browne is correct in her assumption that all angels are 39 years old, then I must have become a grandmother when I was 24!!! I know he was an unexpected "early surprise" ~ but 24? Well, either she is mistaken about all angels being 39 ~ or I'm not an angel! I suppose the latter must be true!

I'm so confused! Perhaps I got my ages wrong. I never was very good at "adding things up"! Now even I don't know how old I am! ~ at least in this lifetime. winky wink

I've been enjoying this thread, Ed! ~ Oops! ~ a rhyme! Perhaps I'm a poet! lol

In order for me to figure out how old I am I use the Pythagoras method...after all didn't he create the Arcane practive of Numerology? For example, I was born in 1948, so 1+9+4+8=22. So I'm 22, funny somedays I feel older!???

I'm back again! I made a mistake when I wrote that Sylvia Browne claims that everyone in heaven is 39. Apparently it is 30. So all my previous figures must be wrong. I suppose the only way I will know what my true age is, is by  looking at my birth certificate!

Maybe it will show that I really am 30 ~ and a real angel! lol

Hmmm! In three and a half years I will be eighty! Sounds so much younger when I say 76. LOL "late"

I am 39 + 1 and next year will be 39 + 2.  Ah heck... that's too long to say, so let's just shorten it to 39 (wink wink) FOREVER.

What age do a feel like - depends on the day, time, and how much laundry I've done in a week... anywhere between 18 and 118!

Well I'm 16 years old by this summer... but at the moment I feel like a 5 years old because I can't sit still. Yay for coffee at 2 AM.

I'm 18 but wish I was a lot younger.
My outlook on life has totally changed in the past year and I feel like I wasted the other 17. Guess you can't get them back, huh

Ed? I now own a didgeroo.

*smile*

It was a gift to me when I was denied entrance to Ruby Falls...

I can now pout more noisily. *chuckle* I can only manage one tone, but maybe I should try the other end.

OF THE DIDGEROO.

Gnarly! Right on, K!

Isn't it a blast? I don't even care if I'm good or not. It's such an organic sound, too. I feel really tribal when I'm gettin' my didg on.

I think I might actually get one of those flesh tunnel earrings now.

"Flesh tunnel" that sounds icky.

My Wii Fit told me I was 35 today!  Woohoo!! Of course last week, it said 57 and if I got on it again tonight it could say 21. Or 75.

Good thing I had to program in my actual age because all these numbers are making me forget (which is common at my age)

AHEM

(let me try this again?) SHEESH!

After owning a didgeroo, and learning to hum a few bars, I happen to think that all didgeroo owners are voluntarily exempt from this question.

I'm 47--but mind you, that's only for this year!

I am completely fascinated with the fact that this thread on "age" keeps generating responses..

of course now that I responded it will die..

meh...

what is it about age that people find so defining?

That it changes us whether we like it or not.

Well, it may have something to do with the thousands of dollars we spend on cream and surgery so our pretty faces are not so defined?  Man, I absolutely hate Isaac Newton and his rotten theory.

Actually it is a strange thing this getting older, as I find I get more of everything besides defining lines, like tolerance, patience, acceptance, understanding, etc.  However, I sure exercise my right as an "old folk" when I want my way, and won't budge until I get it now!  Facts-wise I am smarter, but sense-wise I am getting younger every day and take way more risks.  Life is great!

Although you touched on age in more than the physical sense in your response, Sharon, it wasn't enough for me...

Why do we as a society put so much meaning into age?

A certain way one should act, dress, make decisions, think even, according to your age.

I haven't gotten wiser because I am older. I have (hopefully) gotten wiser because of my experiences. In some areas I know more than the average person my age and in other areas I do not.

I have a somewhat playful personality. I like to have fun, be foolish and laugh. All of my friends are younger than me and I always end up with younger men. I don't think that is because I am immature (generally) but rather because I am bored with most people my age. They just aren't as active as I am.

Of course there are exceptions.
:::disclaimer:::

Some days I feel like I am being forced into a box because of my age.

Ditto here Susan.  Gosh I am 63, ALL husbands were younger than me, and all my friends are way younger.  Now that you mention it, I don't even know anyone my age come to think of it.

So, you have proven one thing - not ALL people put a lot into defining age.  I never really think about age to be honest, but sometimes you are just so right - it boxes me in and my mind has a hard time catching up to my body.

Activity is the key!  If you want to stay young, work and play damn hard!  In my opinion, when you stop you age, then you "rust" and I vowed I was never going to die from "rust!"  Now's there's a whole other thread, "What are you afraid to die of?"  Mine, is definitely rust

Oh I forgot to mention that my Wii age is 32, and according to testing my "health age" is 47 so I will just take that as a good sign?

With my luck though, I will probably be hit by a Mach truck! ((*^))

In answer to your question about why we "dress" a certain way at certain ages I have no clue, because I sure refuse to live within those boundaries, but you are right - they do exist!  It is in what we are taught, you change the lessons you teach the young, the outcome also changes.

This brings to mind something someone told to me recently.

When I mentioned the last guy friend I had was significantly younger than me, she informed me that I shouldn't date anyone younger than 32. She said this is because a man doesn't develop and use the frontal lope properly until said age.  What bothered me about that was that it was very inclusive. She didn't ask anything about my guy friend but rather only heard his age and made the leap that he couldn't possibly have anything to offer someone of my age.

I beg to differ.

My home is full of signs and words, here are a couple of them - one says, "Anyone looking for a husband obviously never had one," and the other, "Anyone who has not dated a younger man or woman doesn't know what they're missing."   However, another says, "Young a heart, but slightly older in other places."

That is my point Susan, assumption and fear will kill some of the coolest moments in life, and I never pay attention to either, and just go for it.  I truly do not care what people think about what I say or do, but I also treat everyone with respect while being me.

What does concern me is the new geological age we are creating for all living things in this new "human-induced" course of destruction we are on, and that is the age I am sure worried about.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Wisdom does become more with age when it is well watered and tended along the way.  No good wisdom would expect it automatically from age but in conjunction with keeping it up through age as much as possible, instead of neglecting it in one way or another.
