Greetings,
I'm working on a short film for a nature film contest.
The theme is "Living Skies."
I'm looking to work with a poet to write a poem to go with my footage.
Samples of my footage can be found at http://www.silverphoenixllc.com/wolfcomp.mov http://www.silverphoenixllc.com/Angi.mov
and http://www.iowafilmmaker.com/Yellowstone.mov
Obviously, living skies would mostly deal with timelapse, clouds, birds in flight etc.
I can be contacted at info@pawprintproductions.com
Thanks for your time.

Hmm, a fellow filmmaker. I too love filming in nature, it gives me a sense of lucidity. Your links aren't working by the way (at least not for me).

I can't really help you out with the poetry for I don't write nature pieces. My work is a little more... strange and gnarled. Well anyhoo, good luck.     Ed

And I said to the devil, "You better leave my spleen alone."

Mmm, let me type them out since I just copied and pasted them from a previous email I sent.
http://www.silverphoenixllc.com/wolfcomp.mov http://www.silverphoenixllc.com/Angi.mov and http://www.iowafilmmaker.com/Yellowstone.mov

Thanks for letting me know they weren't working.

It'sa tough challenge as they only give you three weeks to think of something, then shoot and edit it. But, that's what makes it fun.

Sorry, these links only allow me to hear the music and I'd love to see the films. Any chance you can make it work?

Munda,
They're encoded in H.264 codec with QuickTime7
I know both PC and Mac users with QT7 have viewed them.

You've got someone who is very qualified to take on your request, so go with it.  Unfortunately, after several minutes to waiting, and nothing coming through, I hope to someday see what it is you might be showing us.

Good luck!

Sunshine,
I'm sorry you couldn't see them.
They're large files as they are compressed from HD footage.
I can't remember off the top of my head how large they are but over 30 or 40 meg for sure.

Of course, HD footage in its non-compressed form is a gig a minute so getting them under 100meg is quite good.

No wonder I couldn't see anything. My old, cranky, but oh so reliable computer runs on windows 98. (ARGHHHHHH!!) Thank goodness my son's computer has W2000 something, so I could watch the movies.
What can I say? They are absolutely beautiful. All of them, but my heart started pounding when I watched the wolves.

I too would be interested in this challenge. What's my next step? Will you contact me? Do I e-mail you?

I couldn't see a movie, but my AOL Media player ran the music which was wonderful in itself. Thanks...and I would be interested, even without seeing the movie.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the interest!
Anyone's welcome.
First, let me post the theme that my film has to be based on...
"THE LIVING SKIES"
Definition of skies: anything (skies, insects, clouds, weather, Superman, UFOs, architecture, humans, animals, etc etc) that you see up in the air that is higher than my single-story ranch house. for reference, see a single-story ranch house in your own neighorhood.

So, that's what I have to work with.
I'm sure allot of people are just going to shoot cool skies, set it to music and be done with it.
BTW, the film has to be three minutes or less.

So, my idea is to juxtapose scenes from our everyday lives. Things we consider "living" with scnes of the sky.

But, I want it to be more than that. Words help create images. You can read a book and see it in your mind. Poetry is a dance of words. Poetry can take an image of nice fluffy clouds and breathe new life into it. Poetry can make the clouds come to life. Poetry can make this film so much more than nice white puffy clouds set to music.

Oh, and I also have only three weeks to get it done and we're half way into the first week.

But, that's what makes the challenge so much fun.

I'm still trying to flesh out the idea so I'm open to suggestions. I thought of making the entire narration a poem. I also thought of starting a story about how we talk of life in human terms and how we assign verbs and adjectives to inanimate objects.
I've thought about allot of things. But the thing I do best is to shoot good footage.
So, that's why I need your help. I couldn't write my way out of a paper bag.

Sorry for the long winded reply but I'm hoping someone can make sense of the ramblings and figure out what I'm trying to say.
Feel free to drop me a line anytime at info@pawprintproductions.com

Thanks!

Kevin, I know you will really enjoy this link but also wondered what kind of gear you used to shoot with?

That was pretty funny. Scary part is we'll get there some day.
When I was shooting still photographs, I shot with a Nikon F4 and a Nikon F5. I did buy a Nikon D70 to play around with but don't use it very much.

I've been shooting digital video for quite some time and now all I shoot is HD vide with a Panasonic HVX200.

If you happen to see on the National Geographic channel North America: Deadly Dozen. The  shot of the mountain lion running through the snow is mine.

Hi again, finally got to see your mountain lion shot, terrific!  How are you making out with the video, any takers on the audio?  Please let us know here when you get it done, but I saved your site as well.  Have a great weekend.
