Hey, all. I'm in the process of writing a paper on physician-assisted suicide, and I'm trying to find the name of a particular patient whose case I've heard about in passing.

I want to say the guy's name was Donald, but that could be way off. Anyway, he was in a car accident and was burned very badly. His ongoing treatment caused excruciating pain, and he repeatedly begged the doctors to withold treatment and simply let him die. They didn't, though, and he went on to fully recover and lead a healthy, productive life. Obviously, since he has not committed suicide, this man no longer wishes to die. However, when asked if doctors should have respected his requests, he still claims that they should have.

I don't know where to look to find the guy's name or any info on him, so anything is helpful and much appreciated.

In Gratitude,
Alicia

Go to Google or an equivalent search engine -- type in the keywords you're looking for and start reading through pages and you'll do just fine.

Probably the first thing you should do is learn to differentiate between Euthenasia and Assisted Suicide.

Thank you for your reply! I'm sorry for not expressing myself more clearly in my post. I know the difference between euthanasia (passive, active, voluntary and nonvoluntary) and physician-assisted suicide. Unfortunately, since I'm not sure what the man's name is, it's hard to do a keyword search. That's why I was hoping someone would be familiar with the case.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply! Have a terrific weekend (what's left of it, anyway)!

LR is right on.  It is all in research.  I.e., "euthanasia+name" or alternative forms thereof, may be what you need to do.  Good luck.

For now, it's bedtime, but I will certainly try the "euthanasia+name" suggestion tomorrow! The help is much appreciated.
