It's interesting - I all but hated normal television. It's all but impossible to schedule a time-slot on a daily or weekly basis for a particular show. Add to that, most aren't really worth it.

*Then came TiVo*

Much better.

But still not enough. It is great to bypass those irritants called commercials, but you still have to run through them. Add to that, if you're really enjoying a show, you STILL have to wait the week.

DVD's rock.

I'm curious as to series you suggest. I'll list mine below, but as I'm down to the wire on my current obsession, with the next season not due out on DVD until, well, at the least until they finish running it on TV for the 1st time...

My Obsessions:
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Angel
  • Firefly
  • Battlestar Galactica (new version)
  • Dead Zone
  • Dead Like Me
  • Smallville (1/2 way through Season 4!)
Help me - once I'm done, and waiting for Clark & Lois, I'll need something to occupy me!

I have heard a lot of good things about "smallville" so I just might have to check that out.

As for other series, the only one is American Idol, and I know it's all a money thing, but I still love the show.

And Tivo......yep. That one is one the top of my wish list. I dunno why, tho. It's not like I'm too busy to just sit there and watch the durned things.

One word...when you can get it, 'House'...Hugh Laurie is magnificent. The story lines are bizarre and the dialogue is witty.

"Prison Break"...can't wait til it's back!!!

EVEN THOUGH I know first hand
that a lot of it is staged...

don't even try to get before me and CSI...

Then call me hopeless....

and let me watch Forensics...
the History Channel when I'm in the right state...
some tried and trues...Everybody Loves
Frasier
and don't tell me that 'they' all died a long time ago...

but shows that far back, too.  Why not?  They're comforting, they're not vindictive, spiteful, full of hate nor poor language...

comfort tv....good for the soul.

Bones
The Shield
Nip/Tuck when it's on
Prison Break when it's on
Boston Legal
American Idol (that I swore I'd never watch)
Dancing With The Stars

Anyone seen Carnivale?

I'm interested, but at $85... cautious!

I'll be back to comment... the lineup here looks like our TiVo recording schedule! (though it's my wife's choices... lol, mine aren't so... uhm, mature...)

Carnivale is great!!! I was very sad when they said it wouldn't return. But it's not everyone's cup of tea - it's odd...with overtones of religion.

HOUSE!

I forgot about House!

I rarely pick up watching a series midway, but this one is great. I have a fondness for unlikeable characters--when they are drawn that well and you watch their foibles slowly revealed and what makes 'em tick? It just fascinates me. I've only seen two episodes, but I'll be watching that one again for sure.

One's I don't move during the entire hour:

Desperate Housewives . 24 . House . Bones . CSI . Medium . Weeds * .  Smallville . Six Feet Under* . Starving * .  Ghost Whisperer . American Idol . Canadian Idol . Gray's Anatomy . Gilmore Girls (reminds me of Serenity for some reason.)  * Showcase Channel in Canada

AND - Every decorating show, tivo'd and watched when time allows.

LOL, get a life Sharon!  I even watch the re-runs of CSI, that is how much I love that show!  Weeds is absolutely GREAT!

Ones I will add to video collection when available:

Weeds, House

Sopranos, Six feet Under, Ally McBeal (remember?), Sex and the City, House, Greys Anatomy, The First 48 (A&E true crime), Dr. G.

Basically anything that has to do with true crime...

I agree Susan, I own some of those!  There is possibly never going to be another series that will ever top The Sopranos - awesome!  I own all series of Sex and the City (unopened) and saving for ma girls

Ally was my favorite because we are klutz sisters, and I truly miss her.

Confession (I don't know how I forgot these):

I watch the following reality shows:

Real World
Meet the Barkers
There and Back

Oddly, these "reality shows" allow me to escape......

My boyfriend and I might as well just get an HBO feed (since we have no other cable)- it would have saved us hundreds in DVD's.

Carnivale was pretty good. I'm cheap, so I don't know if [i]I'd{/i] pay the 85 bucks... but it was pretty good.

Oz (especially the first 2 seasons) is also very good... as long as you're not offended by gratuitous gay prison sex.

My boyfriend and my dad both absolutely adore Deadwood... eh? Maybe it's a guy thing? I think it's... okay...

But my absolute favorite Tv on DVD shows is the Sopranos... probably the best TV show I've ever seen, very surprisingly human. Definitely worth 85 bucks a pop.

Other shows we have on DVD are Futurama (which I love), Quantuum Leap (pretty good), Twin Peaks (which is awesome, but only the first season is out on DVD as far as I know), and (of all the dumb shows) SeaLab 2021... which is humurous enough to buy.

Hope this was of some help...

I didn't forget Six Feet Under, but I consider that show as an ideal. Incredible writing, there.

I tend to iron while I watch television some times, and during the last episode I actually ironed my hand! (And no, I wasn't stoned--I was enthralled and in tears)

sigh

That one and Sopranos raised the bar for television in my humble opinion.

And C? I intend to rent that other thing, too, as soon as they open a movie rental place nearby.

Titus
Ed
House
My Name Is Earl
Nip/Tuck
CSI (all of them(
Law & Order (all of them)
What Not To Wear
LOST
Desperate Housewives
Kim Possible
The Office
The O.C.

and a few others.

Unfortunately, ever since I joined the military, I haven't really had the chance to watch TV. Here in Iraq, I'm enjoying House. That, and my mom is sending me "Titus" seasons 1 and 2. WoohoO! :

Oh, I forgot "24." :gasp:

I'm sorry Jack Bauer! You are still the man, even if I've failed you. (inside joke, sorry

Seriously, though. I love that show. And, yes, I do watch "Sex and the City."

Entourage is where it's at. Anyone watch the HBO dramedy?

Chris -- your tastes and mine tend to run in similar directions so I'd be confident in suggesting Sopranos and Deadwood, even though Deadwood isn't quite as good as it could be it's great.

I thought 'Rome' was done well too.

Ever think of just going to the Library and checking them out though instead of spending the 85 bucks?
