WE all know that JIm Morrison was a phenominal poet (OK, OK... that is subject to interpretation), however I have been in too many discussions with too many people who feel that musicians, rock musicisna especially, have nothing worth saying unless it is about women and partying... although no one here has said so... I hereby submit or your perusal, the poetry of one of Hair Metal's most famous voices.

Read it in good health.

Count me out of the Jim Morrison fan club. I thought him to be way overrated and mediocre at best.

One of my favorites is Ian Anderson
of Jethro Tull.

Keep Led Zep and The Who, I'll take Tull and Ian's lyrics (and music) any day over those bands.

"I have gone away. The bed is cold and empty. Trees bend their boughs toward the earth. And nighttime birds float as black faces."

Yeah, Jethro Tull had amazing lyrics and scores that even they had great difficulty performing.  I reckon that it's the vast majority of lyrcists who do very simple rhymes with a small chorus, the entire thing sometimes only 12 lines or so, repeated for 3:30 minutes, with the obligitary guitar solo which gives the bad rap of non-poetic nonsense.

OK now I will fight to MY death for Morrison, he was profound . . .
you have to READ him, add to that list Roger Waters, Neil Young, Hendrix, and Bob Dylan, Neil Peart from Rush . . . I could go on forever.

Tull, yes . . .

Go read American Prayer, the end
"Feast of Friends" . . .

"They are waiting to take us into
The severed garden
Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful
Comes death on a strange hour
Unannounced, unplanned for
Like a scaring over-friendly guest you’ve
Brought to bed

Death makes angels of us all
And gives us wings
Where we had shoulders
Smooth as raven’s
Claws"

Put it this way:  look at the artist
Has that ever been recreated?  NO

I rest my case.

The artists above are poets who happened to stumble upon music.

Rather, had the ability to use music to convey their feelings further.  TG.

Oh, don't get me started . . .

*smile*

Ian Anderson is a force unto himself. And the music that they write is... well... as was said: Darned near impossible at times.
