I'm bored of my collection and especially the radio. please give me a list of bands or cds that have come out in the last 5 years that i absolutely have to listen to. bands that not alot of people know about. rock, alt, electronic, trip-hop, whatever the label. here's a few you might like

Queen Adreena: think a perfect circle with a psychotic kate bush singing, 'taxidermy' is their best but a new album is on the way. check out a live session at http://www.xfm.co.uk/article.asp?id=80146

Laika: if you like massive attack, portishead you'll love their 'sounds of the sattelites cd')

Prodigy: they're a one hit wonder in N America but their last album was brilliant, sadly underrated, chemical bros on steroids

Sarah Harmer: another excellent canadian songstress, her debut is a bluesy/country gem

*** NIN new album with_teeth is great, closer to the early work where the onus was on each individual song rather than creating one huge soundscape of an album. (um..that made sense to me what can i tell ya)

I would have to agree with the new NIN, other than that, everything pretty much sucks.  *grin*

(OMG I feel like I am about 14 again when all of the good music went away and we were stuck in pop land with Cyndi Lauper and Culture Club, does this have to do with the weather? BTW that is when I started listening to 97.7 and the Bear, member that station?  They were the only stations left that actually played rock.)

Next, I want to see you with Chewie, Raph.

Delicious Agony

Check this link out... It is an online radio station tht touts itself as "progressive rock radio" however it has a butt-load of stuff from Symphony X to Tony Banks, to everything else. Screamers to singers.

I would recommend the following:

1. Nonpoint / Albums - Statement, Recoil
2. Dreamtheater / Albums - Scenes From A Memory, Six Degrees, Train of Thought
3. Dimmu Borgir / Albums - Puritanical Misanthropic Euphoria
4. Crossfade / Albums - Crossfade
5. Alter Bridge / Albums - One Day Remains
6. Breaking Benjamin / Albums - Saturate, We Are Not Alone
7. Korn / Albums - Greatest Hits
8. Three Days Grace / Albums - Self Titled
9. Shinedown / Albums - Fly From The Inside, Whisper
10. Lacuna Coil / Albums - Comalies
11. Evanescence / Albums - Fallen, Anywhere But Home
12. Nightwish / This is an opera rock band that sounds really cool.
13. Limbonic Art / This band is a techno dark metal band.
14. Stratovarius / A neo classical guitar band, really talented.

A few I would try if you want a alternative, metal, dark metal mix.

Note to self: no Dimmu anymore.

I didn't realize how popular they'd gotten amongst non-metal listeners, therefore they are no longer "cool".. lol

Raph, I really can't give you any suggestions considering I'm getting really obsessed with 80's thrash metal.

Def must have is Lucinda Williams' 'World Without Tears'-- damn fine poetry there in a classic rock/country/blues venue.

Just obtained today, Ben Folds new one 'Songs for Silverman'.

Somebody needs to buy this kid a 55 gallon drum of prosac.... but this is a much better Ben Folds than the last one -- more like with Five.

Nope, but I'll check it out...

I would tell you my new one too -- but it won't be done for about, oh, two years -- going straight to pod cast with it -- no labels this time.

Kaoru

I happen to be a metal freak, ask Ringo. I suggested Dimmu, on my behalf, because I think they are a more mellow strain of metal.(I listen to mainly acid/death/black metal)And, I was trying to give a variety of genres for Raph to try out.
In my world, it's up to the listener to deem a group/singer as "cool". After all, my mother thinks Wayne Newton is the coolest, lol.

lol

I must have been the culprit that put Dimmu in a list of mainstream trash worthy of deeming them "un-cool"!  I have to agree with Michelle that the listener deems a singer/group cool, not the masses that listen to them.  I will admit that I am a generalist in the music world.  I like the obscure as much as the mainstream.  Liquid Tension, Stratovarius, Britney Spears, Celine Deon, Dimmu Borgir, Korn, Black Sabbath, Gwar, and so on.

Music to me is about emotion, thoughts, feelings, experience and the moment.  A song can take you to a new world for 3 to 25 minutes and then a new song will take you somewhere else.  I like to travel to many different places and so I listen to all kinds of music.  I apologize if this offended you.

Dimmu in my opinion is one of the most talented melodic, dark metal bands.  They have a killer drummer, vocalist and supporting cast.  *shrugs*
