they may not be leading men or ladies, but there are some actors who steal scenes or sometimes make the movie, who are your favourites?

Paul Giamatti in Private parts/Saving Private Ryan & The Negotiator

Giovanni Ribisi, especially in Private Ryan(talking about his mother and his death scene)

Dennis Farina in Snatch and Get Shorty..come to think of it he's in Private Ryan too

Joan Cusack..in anything

I can never remember their names...

So you can expect a lot of silent nodding from me, and maybe I'll type the occasional, "yeah, yeah, whatzizzname!"

Sheesh. I think I'll just sit back and let ya'll educate me.

Ruth Gordon as the Witch who is the leader of the coven in Rosemary's Baby

Mel Gibson, in his funny films...the man's face is a caricature in itself. For example, "What Women Want"...and I enjoyed learning that the man can dance!

Agreeing with Mysteria on her picks...

Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) and the best Jason Vorhees of them all, Kane Hodder are a tie for my two favorite character actors,,,,a close second would have to go to Anthony "Dr. Lecter" Hopkins.
If we go into "type cast" situations, then it would be Deniro and Peschi in all the gangster type movies,,,,

The Three Stooges were gods,,,I watch them on demand all the time, and,,,,I have a bumpersticker,,,,,WARNNG, 3 Stooges Fan on board.....nothing like Larry playing the violin,,,,,lil background,,,,,,
When he was a kid, he burned his left arm rather badly, and playing the violin was the theropy that was given to get the use back in it.
People always say, Michelle, you are a font of useless information,,lol

Fred Gwynne did a fine job as the perpetually perplexed judge in "My Cousin Vinny."

It made me happy to see that he left a legacy a bit larger than Hermann Munster.

John Lithgow.  Hands down.

If you look at his work from 3rd Rock alone he wins, but, then take great characters like Lord John Whorfin/Dr. Emilio Lizardo in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, the Reverend Shaw Moore in Footloose, or Roberta Muldoon in The World According to Garp and you have true genius character acting.

Other great ones;

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean, Roux in Chocolat, or Ed Wood in Ed Wood -- one of the greatest of all time.

Ned Beatty -- Judge Roy Bean in Streets of Laredo, Daniel Ruttiger in Rudy, Jack Kellum in the Big Easy, Otis in the Superman movies, or Bobby (squeal like a pig) Trippe in Deliverance... put him right up there -- unfortunately for him since he's only been a character actor he never made the really big bucks that a leading man could pull which has meant he will take just about any role and has left a trail of real stinker movies.

Clem in Joe Dirt, Gabriel in the Prophecy series, Captain Koons in Pulp Fiction, Max Schrek in Batman Returns, Johnny Smith in The Dead Zone, The Continental on SNL...

Christopher Walken's one of my favorites, Reb.

Too - Kevin Pollack (especially that bit he did on the Bob and Tom radio show imitating Christopher Walken!)

Frankenstein never scared me.... Pollock has done his own bit of character acting probably at his best in the 9 Yards movies -- but, still a long way from touching the great ones... as a stand-up though -- he kills...

Johnny Depp as Cap. Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of Carribean".  He stole the show.

You guys have mentioned some great ones.

Don Knotts in almost any movie I've seen him in.

I don't know if this one counts but I loved Mary Stuart Masterson in "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Benny and Joon".

I loved John Candy(Jack Chester) and Rip Torn(Scully) in "Summer Rental"(1985).

Mary Stuart Masterson is just ... hot.

Intelligence in her eyes, in every character, I would have loved to have seen her play "stooooooopid".

It'd be a stretch.
