Why?

Because I said so.

sigh

Nah. Actually, it is "confession" time.

What stupid song do you love?

I was just sitting here, all innocent-like, I swear folks, and I dunno how it happened, but I have Hall & Oates on my playlist!

and okay, I confess, it must be some really nice really vague barroom dance memory, but One on One made me, well, sorta happy. (a teensy bit frisky too)

There.

I admitted it.

Now tell me, what really stupid song gives you the grins and tappy toes?

(We'll leave the unmentionables unmentioned.)

Heh-heh-heh....'tis a song from my, um, youth.... and a very well-written poem, now that I look at it with grown-up eyes.....syllables-deep rhyme, like a bunch of folks here don't do....beware (ha-ha) going here, cuz the tune will "hang" in your head for hours......

Ooh!I love you ratleader!!! Ohh yay! I hadn't heard that song forever. My house (which used to be my grandparents') is next to woods and when I was little I'd go out and make trails and build forts. Sometimes my grandpa would come with me for a tea party in the woods. And he'd sing or whistle that song all the time... with his toothpick bobbing up and down in his mouth the whole time. I loved that guy so much. Thank you for reminding...

Umm, except... now it's gonna be stuck in my head. Ugh!

Yay good memories...

For me, a city kid until about then...it was a Saturday radio show called "No School Today!"....which used it as a theme song.

I wouldn't be in school for a couple more years and had no idea what a woods actually looked like, but I sure did love that song!

Later, when I knew all too much about each, I still did....

I really like a few of them.
One is *Purple People Eater*

Another song I really liked was *Girls Just Wanna Have Fun* by Cyndi Lauper and *Spiders and Snakes* by Jim Stafford

Actually I like any silly song by Stafford or Ray Stevens

BTW Ratleader...I checked out the link for *Teddy Bear's Picnic* and realized I knew the tune but never knew the words. I really enjoyed it.

ok, ice will understand this one because he read my 'Tigger' write. I love to sing about pooh   as in
Pooh Bear-Tigger-Piglet-Owl-Eyore-Christopher gang.
(think Loggins Pooh corner song.)
And it is NOT dumb or stupid!!! I'll belt that tune outloud at the spur of the moment (even though my daughter once looked at me like I just came from a looney bin). I was lucky enough to meet Loggins and Messina when I lived in So Cal, got to see them perform this one live several times.
Hey Christopher, are you an AA Milne Pooh Bear fan too?

Well...

I guess "stupid" is always in the ear of the beholder when it comes to music...you can often hear me singing [wince] Secret Love in the shower....[seems that the flowing water just brings that tempo out of me...hmmmm]

and I think if I gave it a whole lot of thought, I could come up with what would seem stupid to others, but has some meaning to me...

"Oklahoma" comes to mind....

Cute thread, dear...I've missed you these last two days...

"Rubber ducky you're the one..."

Yep, the rubber ducky song by Sesame Street.
I sing it at least five times a day, usually more.
Not sure if that can count though,
because the rubber ducky song is cool.

And I've been known to sing any of Tom lehrer's songs at odd times throughout the day. "I love my friends and they love me, we're just as close as we can be. And just because we really care, whatever we get we share. I got it from agnes, she got it from jim..." Y'know churches act funny when you sing like that? Weird, huh? I don't get it.

me too Paullie!

and then?

I know a lot of folks don't consider this a dumb song, but the way I sing it, it is:

"Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud.
sing out strong.

Sing of good things, not bad.
Sing of happy, not sad..."

with apologies to Karen Carpenter, I always deliberately sang it flat.

(Try it Linda, laughing here, it's so totally annoying that it is instant revenge for any annoying situation)

you guys are fun.

and Just for me and Paullie (and perhaps RS WELLS and anyone else who has had to live with carnival, there is always:

"Mardi Gras Mambo (mambo mambo)"

This was just too much fun to read, you wonderful people!

Geezzzz, Karen, I think my confession would involve three songs that always make me smile:  1) I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner (no questions or jokes please....lol); 2) Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer; 3) The Lion Sleeps to Night..... and, oh well, why not add another one, Zippity Do Da!  Oops......another one, Beatles' Got to Get You Into My Life *Jo starts singing* ... Gotta Getcha Into My Life, bombom ba bomp pa bom.

For dancinng....I have memories of Kenny Logan's Peacemaker jumping around in my head.  I definitely used to dance my heart out to that in private.  But for barroom dancing, I think, one of the best ever was, "Shout (space) Shout (space)Get it all out" .... that's probably not the name of it (I quit keeping track of song and record names by that time....lol).  And since I'm on that timeframe now, I loved Mr. Mister....what was the name of that song?.....

It never sounds dumb at three a.m.

"Oh oh I can feel the magic of your touch
And when you move in close a little bit means so much
Ooh yeah, you've got to understand baby
Time out is what I'm here for

One on one I wanna play that game tonight
One on one I know I wanna play that
One on one I wanna play that game tonight
One on one so slow

You can't tell me you don't miss me girl
I think I might know you too well
Wonder what you'd say if you knew that I was coming tonight
Want to? I want you can't you tell..."

(I'm tellin' ya, there's something about Daryl Hall...)

sheesh.

but yanno that part, where you kind of come in close pelvically?

Don't know if it classifies as a "silly song"...but I can't be objective, considering some of the memories surrounding it...

I don't know...it's got to seem silly to someone...

I love all the songs people have posted here....they're just plain feel good stuff.

And, Karen, yes I adore that song, too, always did.

What about, "Our house is a very, very, very fine house...."  Now I'm hummin' again.  Not so silly a song, or is it?  No brick wall jokes please.

LOL, I love this thread.  For some reason it brought to mind, that song they sang toward the end of the original "Jaws" movie while out on the boat "Show me the way to go home ... I'm tired and I wanna go to bed ... Well I had ..."

The Teddy Bear Picnic ... that's the song my grandfather added to a piggy bank music box he made me as I child. I keep it in my office at work with a pile of pennies beside it. When I'm having a hard day, I just pop in a penny as I walk by it, and it plays a verse for me. Lifts my spirits every time, lol.

I've got a hundred uncool songs playing in my head right now, but darn it JM, topping the list, you've got that "Ting Tang Walla Walla Bing Bang" going in this brain of mine "again", rofl.

Guess it wouldn't be so bad if I knew the lyrics, but as it is, I just sing the same lines over, and over, and over again.

by Lou Bega

"A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita's all I need
A little bit of Tina's what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man"

Another confession:

My son was perusing through my music library and he screeched when he came across,

"Like Humans Do" and was amazed that I hadn't deleted it. (nod...doesn't it come programmed into everybody's music library?)

And then I screeched when he almost deleted it "for" me!

"Y'mean you meant to keep it?"

I did.

I also enjoy "Burnin' Down The House." (and came close on a few occasions too.)

And OH....one more?

but this one is only fun to dance to:

"Love Shack" by the B-52's--lotsa literal bouncing when I hear that one!

Neil Diamond [who else?] has two songs on his Tennessee Album..."Everybody" and "Marry Me"...

There are a couple of lines in both that just go right to the bone...or at least, my bones shiver...he never lost his ability to get me moving...mentally, physically...emotionally...never never never...

OK, Karen... I'll tell you, HOWEVER... if anyone in my band EVER gets wind of this, I WILL (and that is with a capital WILL) cause you such pain and suffering as to make childbirth seem like a sunday ice cream social.

My "guilty pleasure" is:
MM-BOP by Hansen.

It is a really well written pop tune that did what it was designed to do. It makes the listener tap his/her toes, hum to themselves, smile a little inwardly, and then get severely upset with themselves when they realize they were doing it.

Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport

by Rolf Harris

Lyrics:

There's an old Australian stockman, lying, dying
And he gets himself up on one elbow
And he turns to his mates, who are all gathered 'round him
And he says

Watch me wallaby's feed, mate
Watch me wallaby's feed
They're a dangerous breed, mate
So watch me wallaby's feed

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Keep me cockatoo cool, Curl
Keep me cockatoo cool
Don't go acting the fool, Curl
Just keep me cockatoo cool

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Take me koala back, Jack
Take me koala back
He lives somewhere out on the track, Mac
So take me koala back

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Let me abos go loose, Lou
Let me abos go loose
They're of no further use, Lou
So let me abos go loose

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Mind me platypus duck, Bill
Mind me platypus duck
Don't let him go running amok, Bill
Just mind me platypus duck

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Play your didgeridoo, Blue
Play your didgeridoo
Uh, like, keep playing while I shoot through, Blue
Play your didgeridoo

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred
Tan me hide when I'm dead
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde
And that's it hanging on the shed

All together now
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down
Tie me kangaroo down, sport
Tie me kangaroo down

Sheeesh

Dark Angel...yes they did!! I was shocked but died laughing at the lyrics. Never really took the time to listen to them before. Thanks for writing them out for me. At least now I'll know the words. Ya know sometimes you just hear a little refrain or something and that's all you remember. Like the jingle for the HP printer. The song is Picture Book by the Kinks but all that was sticking in my head was that commercial. Same thing for the new show coming out called Intervention. The song is What A Good Boy by Bare Naked Ladies but when it's a small snippet it's hard to place. Mitsubishi was great at that too. Funny how certain songs just kinda stick. Now, if I can only find the Geico song when the gecko is with his buddy going thru a tunnel and he's wearing shades. Sure do like that song (I think)

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance.

As you well know,,my fave song ever is Immortal Corruptor,,,,,which,,,YOU are supposed to be learning the bass line to,,are you not? hmmmmm?
I have worshiped at the shrine of GWAR since Death Piggy Days,,I shall some day,,earn my disembowelment,,,,hope you are there to share! lol

Of course, if you are going the Seseme Street route, then you have to accept the Itsy, Bitsy Spider as sung by Richard Penneman (the former Little Richard)

Oh my.....Two songs by a band called "Was Not Was"

Walk The Dinosaur

Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom

It was a night like this forty million years ago
I lit a cigarette, picked up a monkey skull to go
The sun was spitting fire, the sky was blue as ice
I felt a little tired, so I watched Miami Vice
And walked the dinosaur, I walked the dinosaur

CHORUS:

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur

I met you in a cave, you were painting buffalo
I said I'd be your slave, follow wherever you go
That night we split a rattlesnake and danced beneath the stars
You fell asleep, I stayed awake and watched the passing cars
And walked the dinosaur, I walked the dinosaur

CHORUS

One night I dreamed of New York
You and I roasting blue pork
In the Statue of Liberty's torch
Elvis landed in a rocket ship
Healed a couple of leapers and disappeared
But where was his beard?????

A shadow from the sky much too big to be a bird
A screaming crashing noise louder than I've ever heard
It looked like two big silver trees that somehow learned to soar
Suddenly a summer breeze and a mighty lion's roar
I killed the dinosaur, I killed the dinosaur

CHORUS 2:

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody kill the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody kill the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody kill the dinosaur
Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody kill the dinosaur
Repeat chorus 2 one time
Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom
Boom boom acka-lacka boom boom

and

Hi Dad, I'm In Jail

Hello dad, I'm in jail
Hi dad, I'm calling you from jail
Hi dad, happy birthday, I'm in jail
Jail, jail, hi dad

All those years, I'm in jail now
I'm in jail, I like it here
It's nice, I like it
Hello dad, I'm in jail
Hello, hello dad, hi, I'm in jail
Say hi to mom, from jail
I'm in jail, I'm gonna stay here
I like it here
I like it, yeah, throw away the key
I'm in jail

Hello dad, I'm in jail
Jail, jail, jail, jail

It's sick...I know

Actually, there was a song back in the late 60's/ early 70's... something about a little blue man

I might possibly be on the worst acid trip ever, however I think the chorus went something like:
I love you, I love you
Said the little blue man
I love you, I love you to bits
I love you, I love you
Said the little blue man
And scared me right outta my wwits

I don't remember anything at all about the song other than those few lines... or do I need to call Nurse Ratchett???

I'm drowning, choking
   Falling deeper into this
   Black hole we call living
...Fates Warning

I'm sure no one remembers this one...

Words and music by Sheb Wooley.

quote:
Lyrics to Purple People Eater.

Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had the one long horn, one big eye.
I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple people eater to me.

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater.
(one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater)
A one-eyed one-horned, flyin' puple people eater
Sure looks stange to me. (one eye?)

Well he came down to earth and lit in a tree
I said Mr. Purple People Eater don't eat me
I heard him say in a voice so gruff
I wouldn't eat you cuz you're so tough

It was a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (one horn?)

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line
He said it's eatin' purple people and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band

Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flying purple
people eater. Pidgeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin'
purple people eater (we wear short shorts)
Flyin' purple people eater
sure looks strange to me.

And then he swung from the tree and lit on the
ground. He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
(sing aboop boop aboopa lopa lum bam boom)

Well, bless my soul, rock and roll
flyin' purple people eater.
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple peopleeater.
Flyin' little people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (purple people?)

And then he went on his way, and then what do
you know. I saw him last night on a TV show.
He was blowing it out, a'really knockin' em dead
Playin' rock and roll music through the horn in
his head (clarinet solo) ( Tequila)

I just heard a couple of others yesterday that should never have ben written. My mother was singiing them as she and my daughter were preparing the items needed to send Stottbear out into the world of capitalism all by herself (lemonade stand):

"Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go"
and
"One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater"

I seriously think I need to put that old woman on medication.

Hmmm. There's just something about singing that--I just can't stay upset when I do.

It's like that old song..

"Jada, Jada.
Jada jada jing jing jing.

Jada. Ohhhhhhh Jada.
Jada jada jing jing jing."

(Here's where I "sell" it with Whoopi Goldberg's shoulder action and snapping fingers)

"That's a funny bit o melody,
but it's so soothing and appealing to me -
It goes Jada, yeah Jada jada,
Jada Jada Jing Jing Jing!"
