The better variants of foot jewelry are like that pictured earlier.  They are the foot version of 'hand flowers', or chain filigree ornamentation which graces the top of the hand, connecting at the wrist and however many fingers the wearer desires based on style.  When I was still active in the SCA, one person I knew went from making chainmail to making chain jewelry and ornamentation for chain (coifs, hauberks, gloves/guantlets).  For foot versions, it'd ride the same as the hand flower.  Around the ankle, across the top of the foot, and connecting to however many toes the wearer desired based on style.

My generic pair of barefoot sandals are the ones I made myself.

It's basically crochet strings, ornamented with beads and a little metal doo-dad that gives the appearance of sandals.

So, no, they don't get in the way of anything, as they lace up, slave-sandal style. Now the more ornamental stuff requires a bit of care, but for the most part they are no more bothersome than an anklet.

If you like really fancies, try checking under the jewelry targeted for belly dancers.

Lotsa bells and jinglies, and much fun too, especially on those occasions when one's feet are in the air...er, keeping time.

Ok, only in the summer, seeing as it is about seven degrees here right now, do I always walk barefoot.  I love the Earth beneath my feet especially when I am gardening.  Other than that, it is sandals, always sandals, open toed.  So the world can see me perty toesies. (I need help)
