Saluting with misty eyes

Hey all.... I have a bit of a predicament that I am hoping I can get some assistance with.
My stottbear has started learning poetry in school, and she was telling me all about how she's learning haiku's and how she will be learning other forms of poerty. As for that, I am extremely happy... the challenge comes with the fact that she still has it figured that Daddy knows all there is to know about writing (she's 9... give her a break!!!  lol) and Daddy hasn't the foggiest about what most of Y'all are talking about half the time.
Can you suggest any sites where I can begin to learn about the various styles of poetry?
When she starts talking about things at school, I ask her to tell me about them, however I can usually supply the facts if she falls short... Looks like Daddy needs to go to school himself!!!  lol
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Nancy. It is a great help.

I have attempted a haiku in CA for everyone to check out, please... And be brutal about it. I need to know what I'm doing when my daughter comes over this weekend and wants to write some.

psssst, you could try the old fashioned method,,,ye olde library,,,sometimes its cool to pour over those ancient paper filled things,,,books I think they are called, for answers,,,,,,other than that, ian't it great when your child looks to you for answers on school related matters? IE,,,my boy and math,,,,,riiigghhhhhttttt

good luck
Michelle

I wish all could find the true happiness I have found,,in the eyes of Mike

Ringo, that shadow poetry site that Nancy linked you to?  I recently found that one myself...not bad!!!

Here is another one
http://members.optushome.com.au/kazoom/poetry/dodoitsu.html

that contains yet a few more types of poetry.  Steavenr recently performed a dodoitsu in Open 31 [now archived].

I'm just so tickled that your daughter will not only learn from you [with a little help from your friends] but will also learn how to research with you.  When my own granddaughter has a question and if I don't know the answer, we hit the books and computer, too.  It can be very rewarding all the way around!

Nothing teaches like teaching!

You WILL know all there is by the time you're done, so take heart -- and it'll be good for all three of you.... you, her and you/her....
