So, what do y'all think of the Janet & Justin stunt?  Do you think it was purely unintentionable, or do you think that it was a publicity stunt???  And, do you think it is a big deal, or should we laugh it off?

lmao...true they do get away with MUCH more...

I heard today that it is highly unlikely that MTV will be permitted to do anymore halftime shows.  I think that's wrong....

if you make a big deal of something, it will BE a big deal...

(sad sigh) I didn't see the Super Bowl as I don't like to ever watch it, but I saw the clip and I must say it was NO accident.

This just sickens me as this is going to encourage many young people that it is okay to touch or rape one another like that! Absolutely terrible, and if Janrt thinks that's going to publicize her next album, the Michael Jackson thing is something that may slow her down!

It wasn't a pastie....there are pics around that show the closeup. I think it was deliberate and there is no excuse for it. This was a family TV viewing event and the content of the song along with all the sexual innuendoes and the final 'unveiling' was in very poor taste.

It was kind of a pasty, a little star on her boob, I saw a pic of it today.  Kids see worse then that on regular tv.  However, I dont think that was proper for this type of event, I dont know what the heck they were thinking.

They say they hold "the stuff" back until 10:00 p.m.  Well, what time zone you're in makes a big difference.  Point being, it was in bad taste, I hope the FCC investigation DOES make a big deal of it, and I hope that sales slide down the tube for both artists.

It was just wrong.

I truly believe, as does Noah, that it was done on purpose.  Sorry, but unless clothes are made for "break-away" purpose, it's not quite that easy with "supposed leather".  ALSO...I saw something "shiny"...and unless she applied glitter for effect...hmmm?  Why would she do that???

It was a nipple tassle, which falls under the 'pasty' subheading. That this incident was 'accidental' is pandering to the lowest form of intellect normally reserved by mudslinging politicians. It was staged and rehearsed. MTV even spoke of the performance, and hinted of something big and shocking prior to the SuperBowl. Of course they behaved themselves during dress rehearsals the week prior. If they had tipped off anybody, it wouldn't have been big and shocking, but staged and passe. Not to mention that it wouldn't have been aired, much less shown on the bigscreens in the stadium. In my view, this was premeditated, and came off (no pun intended) without a hitch. The only thing they didn't consider was the outcry. Michael is on trial for child molestation, and there his sister is exposing her breast to children watching the game, both in stadium and home. Not the smartest thing to do during the most viewed show in the USA, especially with what her brother is going through, but who cares, as long as you get publicity.

I'm sorry, I respect all of your opinions, but I still don't see the big deal.  It was just a boob! It's not like she got naked.  It may have been in poor taste but I think people make too huge of a deal out of it.

Oh, gee!
Aren't we offended!
A little bit of bare flesh shows up in the middle of "game" of organized gladiatorial violence (family viewing???) and people get all bent out of shape.
Get real folks!
This is a culture that glorifies violence, noise and celebrity.
It was all there.

I tend to partially agree with Krawdad.

Reminds me of my sister-in-law's review of Starship Troopers a few years ago. Seems amidst all the decapitations and gunshots, bloodbaths and gore, she found herself offended at the co-ed shower scene where both male and female anatomy was shown!

The only other thing I have to say in regard to this, is that parents operated with the understanding that they were allowing their children ready access to a violent sport, but had no notion they would also be subjected to watching two boobs jumping around on stage exposing themselves to a frenzied pulic (pun, of course, fully intended).

as far as my big deal...

we've taught people/children to be embarrassed of the human body.  Our culture has portrayed that a body is to be hidden and, if it is shown, it is raunchy or classless.  People need not be ashamed of the human body.  We should instead be ashamed of how we TREAT the body, touch the body, etc.

And, people are so upset about this breast being shown...what about the dancers grabbing their crotches, the lyrics of the show, etc...?

I watched the Superbowl and never even knew this happened.

I would like to thank those responsible for making this such a big story, therefore bringing this serious issue to my attention. Of course, while following up on the story logging on to the drudge report website, I actually got to see her naked appendage.

Was it in bad taste? Absolutely!

With MTV involved, should a stunt of this nature be expected? Absolutely!

I heard on the radio this morning that there was a male dancer who was wearing only a red thong - is that any worse? No.

Big deal? Yes. Just what Ms. Jackson and her new cd producers, MTV, wanted - Thanks to all of those who made this a "big deal.

I also watched - and didn't see - this monumental event.  I personally think this was the worst half-time show I've seen... It was geared to a selective audience and had no universal appeal whatsoever.

I didn't know about this incident until I saw later media reports.  If it were accidental - wouldn't her breast have been exposed sans pastie??  Just the fact that she was sporting her little star is testimony that it was quite intentional.

Our moral codes aside, the television code of ethics was seemingly intentionally broken... If so - MTV, its cohorts, and these performers deserve all the heat they've conjured up for themselves.

Here, in England there are many football matches and there is a big possibility that someone will come running onto the pitch at anytime in full monty. They last about 20 seconds and then get dragged off and the crowd laughs or shakes their heads and then it's on with the match and all forgotten about. I don't think children read too much into these things as long as the adults dont. If we make these things a big deal then it draws their attention to it and then possible damage may be caused.
I have to say, though, that I haven't seen this Jackson episode and surely would have shaken my head if I had. If it was planned then I question Mrs Jackson on whether she could stoop any lower! I've come to realise most of the famous are nutcases. lol
Here's to parenting, teaching children morels and to respect women.

It wasn't the 'boobage' that bothered me. It was the way it was done - the theme of the song, the act of ripping her bodice...not for prime time!

If people hadnt reacted and made a big deal out of it, it would have just been a failed bit of attention seeking. I think. It is our reaction to things that make them what they are in cases like this. Dont give them the satisfaction of your shocked gasps, just let it wash like water off a ducks back thats what i think.

Ridiculous how people freaked out over that. Okay Janet flashed her boobs, and yes it was puposely done. Woop dee doo--all women have boobs--they are merely 2 saggy things used for nursing babies and to occasionally tease men. Not a big deal. I, being from Texas, know they'd be damning Janet Jackson for doing that, but here in England where I now live people don't blink an eye over stuff of the sort. Much more layed back here, and used to seeing the flesh. Come watch the BBC for a few minutes and you'll see what I mean..hehe. And besides, we were all cavewomen once, strutting our stuff without public outcries. When did people become so fearful of human flesh? It's only natural. I just find it really strange how people seem to be ashamed of any part of the body being shown--in art form or otherwise. Hmmm oh well.
