Not being a native to Tennessee and not familiar with the lore here and not much into gardening and canning....I find myself wondering a few things. I was told about a calendar (that I can't find) about making kraut when the moon is light and the signs are above the stomach. Could someone please tell me what that means. I am befuddled.

I've done a little looking around, but can't come up with anything on the net.  Perhaps those who live in your neck of the woods, or have traveled through, or who are very well read, may be able to come up with a response.  Heaven knows, I'm interested in the answer as well!!!

Just a Kansas farm boy here, but us flatlanders know to plant above ground crops in a light moon and below ground crops in a dark moon.  So ya plant yer beans in a full moon and taters in a new moon.  Ya can also use the waxing and waning moons.  The signs ain't used much by us hick farmfolk, that belongs to our hilly cousins who didn't have the gumption to heed the advice of *Go West, Young Man!"  they rename the signs of the zodiac after parts of the body and the parts above the waist I suspect refer to the season in which it is best to make kraut, as long as ya got a light moon.  Need to talk to some hill folk or get a folklore calendar to find out fer sure I reckon.

Virgo-belly
Cancer-breast
Taurus-neck
Aires-head
Leo-heart
Gemini-arms

Libra hips
Scorpio groin
Sagitarius thighs
Capricorn knees
Aquarius ankles
Pisces feet

so kraut in April through September in a full moon.
at least that is what great Aunt Mildred on my momma's side says.
