i thought it would be cool to put your favorite quote/s down

i will start out with Billy Corgan

"The simplest way that I can understand therapy, is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our lives trying to unravel it."
"I don't know if god would agree with me, but believing in God is kind of unimportant when compared to believing in yourself. Because if you go with the idea that God gave you a mind and an ability to judge things, then he would want you to believe in yourself and not worry about believing in him. By believing in yourself you will come to the conclusion that will point to something."

Time is never time at all, you can never ever leave. Without leaving a piece of youth

                         (Tonight Tonight)

Robert Frost

Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper.

The brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working when you get up in the morning, and doesn't stop until you get to the office.

Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.

The world is full of willing people; some willing to work, the rest willing to let them.

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.

And finally Socrates

By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

hey, this is a good idea but I don't think it belongs here in this forum...

We might need to ask Ron about having a quote forum or something. This forum is for poetry that is written by the person who posts it.

LOL, interesting thread.
I'll come back later with a few quotes that have stuck with me for many years...I want to make sure I quote them verbatim and not ad libum, and give proper credit.

This is a cool thread, I must say.
If Socrates is, indeed, correct, then I need to change my line of work!!! lol.

OK, here's my additions:
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7

I'll never break my promise or forget me vows, but G-d only knows what I would do right now.
Robert Aday

Be like the rhino: tough skinned, one-minded of purpose, and letting nothing get in your way.
Mark Rudibek

I drank what?
Socrates.
OK, OK... maybe he didn't say this one...

We are all equal but we’re individually different
and able to reach the impossible if we try.

Now for you and me it made not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last.
And while the future's there for anyone to change
Still you know it's seems ...
It would be easier sometimes to change the past.

~Jackson Browne~

When your own emptiness is all that's getting through
There comes a point when you're not sure why you're still talking ...
I passed that point long ago.

~Jackson Browne~

We wish ourselves beautiful ...
We cry in the night
And it's not the love you fear ...
But the fall from the height.

Found your heart but lost your lover ...
licked your wounds then run for cover.
Take your time ... there'll be another,
and dont make the same mistake twice ...
unless you can pay the price.

~Dan Fogelberg~

... And think not, that you can direct the course of love ...
if it finds you worthy ...  it then directs your course.

But if you love and must need, let these be your desires:
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love ...

And to bleed willingly and joyfully."

I'm also a quote lover.  I even use them for all my AIM away messages.  I have so many, but here are a few of my absolute favorites.

"The intellectual is constantly betrayed by his vanity.  Godlike he blandly assumes that he can express everything in words; whereas the things one loves, lives, and dies for are not, in the last analysis completely expressible in words."
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh

"The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do."
-John Holt

"We may not be as good as we want to be, but we'll never be any better then we try to be."
-Honestly cannot remember.  It's not mine and if you actually know who said it I would love to know.

"Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.
Justice the founder of my fabric moved:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.
Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I shall endure.
All hope abandon, ye who enter here."
-Dante Alighieri, Divine Comedy, The

"All is not gold that glitters."
-Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote

"Here at last
We shall be free;
the Almighty hath not built
Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:
Here we may reign secure, and in my choice
To reign is worth ambition though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven."
-John Milton, Paradise Lost

"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."
-Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

"Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself."
-Chinese Proverb

"A man never tells you anything until you contradict him."
-George Bernard Shaw

"If an army of monkeys were strumming on typewriters, they might write all the books in the British Museum."
-Sir Arthur Eddington, "In the Nature of the Physical World", 1928

"Fall seven times, stand up eight."
-Japanese Proverb (my third fav of all.)

"The sweet isn't as sweet without the sour"
-Vanilla Sky (second fav)

"The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
-Thomas Paine (my number 1 fav)

I really must stop myself or I could go on all night.  Btw a great place to look up new quotes is quoteland.com  I do believe I have read every quote on the site.

ex animo,
Aaron

Your weakness kills everyone...
So live!

"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to kiss you..."
Oh, was that all?

I've been abused and used,
don't you think that I'll damage you?

I've been denied all the best ultra-sex.

-Mindless Self Indulgence (inappropriate title - Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy)

-Mikhail Chmielecki (a kiss)

Then y' can add in any word ever written by Neil Gaiman, and it's all good.
