Hi. I'm speaking truth. I mean no harm. There have a been a lot of new comers come to PIP and it's slim to none that any of them reply to the older members writes. I feel that we are loosing people because of this. The new members post but never reply to anyone else. It's becoming bothersome. Someone has to speak out about this because I don't find it fair and I know, a couple of people feel the same way. I hope everyone doesn't get mad or anything. But,Yeah. Thanks. Pe@ce ~*Kirah*~

What's a new member? What's an old member?  It's all relative, WindSong.  To  me, an "old" member dates back to 1999... To you - It's since December of 2002.

It's a proven fact that the very best way to encourage our new members to post comments on others' poems is to read and comment upon theirs.  After all, we're the incumbant members, and we can surely take the time to welcome them and let them know their poetry is being read.

When a new poet feels comfortable, they join in the fun.  Why not extend a Passionate hand?  It works...

I do reply to theirs. Almost all the time. Yes I admit that I'm not often enough but that's because I've been real busy with school. Lately, I have been on a lot more and still, they haven't replied...I'm talking new like the one's from April and such. It just bother's me. I reply to theirs and they reply to nothing...It's just bothersome. I mean no harm by it. Ttys.

I did notice that there's been a lot of new members since my last visits. I went for my routine visit to my beloved Dark forums and find it with many new faces. I welcome the new diversity since Dark rarely has new members, but I am starting to miss older member like qtpieelmo and Melloncollie isn't haunting as much as he used to. It's like a newbie invasion! j/k lollz. About the replies, i suppose they're like me. I enjoy the poem, luve the read, but too tired to reply. My replies sound corny and flat and that isn't how i feel when i want to talk about someone's work. So until i can learn to better express myself about the wonderful work posted here, I will do like the newbies and just Rome, lollz.

Funny you should bring this subject up. I just sent an email to a brand new member addressing this very issue. His response was a little surprising. He did suggest he would consider what I said but felt no burden to respond. Even though I explained how responding to others inspires responses to ones own work. Hmmmm...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Perhaps they just donít like the poetry that the old members are writing, or perhaps they just donít feel like replying Ė thereís no rule that says they have to.

We need to realize one basic fact of our personalities (maybe two)  We are proud and we are selfish.

At our core we are proud of what we write and we feel we have a gift, or an enjoyable past time that others should enjoy sharing with us.

We are selfish because we want others to read OUR work, to talk to US about OUR work. It makes us feel good to know that others like or at least care enough about us to read what we take pride in.

What bothers us most is not getting replys to our work, purely an effect of our selfish pride not being properly fed.

Before everyone freaks and starts posting that they are not proud or selfish, just pause a moment and honestly consider to yourself why do you post you work here?  You enjoy writing?  Good, put it in a notebook.  You put it out where people can read it for a reason - what altruistic reason could that be?

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

For people to read and help me make it better. As I guess we all are here. I'm not asking them to reply to ALL of my work just to give a little. It's not just me but everyone's work. I know there is no rule but it's just tiresome. It's been happening for a while, and I don't appreciate it any more...It's bugging me to death. I've been here since right before Christmas 2002...Since then, my work has been either disregarded or ignored. Yes, I may be selfish but I just want people to reply and let me know if I should make it better or whatever...that's all. A simple "This stunk." OR "This was good." Is all I ask for and I bet other's would ask for too but are too shy or scared to speak out against it...Peace.

We once talked about "counting clicks" into a poem - where people just read, but don't respond.  It happens all the time.  When I read that thread, oh LONG ago...I thought..."if they are just reading and not clicking, it means I'm not grabbing them enough to make them WANT to respond."

And then of course, there is the ego thing...where some might think that ONLY their poetry stands out.

But Passions is a Community.  It's much different from the other websites that entertain folks on the Internet.  We have lives on and off the monitor.

My advice?  Practice your poetry as you would, write and enter into CA now and then, or the other forums, be as comfortable as you can, get to know the folks as you wish; and all will come about in time, including strength and growth in your writing.

You can't be a member for long, and not have something good rub off!

Sunshine: I never cared much for the counting clicks idea for just the reasons you gave... but I'm beginning to think we might need a "this poem left me completely speechless" button... maybe with one of Kit's smilies humbly bowing in appreciation? *G*

We were all new at one time... and I can still annoy. *EG* But it does seem that for every "wave" of new folks we have, a lot eventually leave... and the rest find a comfortable fit with our homelike atmosphere. So the problem is usually fleeting... People get excited when they find PIP... but most do remember their manners after a while. *S*

I'm beginning to be out of words, but that's also b/c i think all of the words I know are now sitting on NYS Regents examination: US HISTORY...Blah. I'll get back to you.

PiPTalk is fairly old. I'm not saying it dying or anything...and well---it HAS lost ALOT of people. And alot of those people were regulars too. There's nothing much we can do about it...except maybe post into THEIR poems, and get your name out there. Y'know?

As a new member myself, it strikes me as odd that this would be a concern. I have been a member here for MAYBE a week and am already over the 50-post mark. Responding to poems written here seems like second nature to me... but then again, I may be the odd one out of the bunch.

I guess I haven't been around enough yet to fully understand what you mean... but yes, I can see how that would be frusterating for you. I guess you really can't do much other than try to lead by example.

I just need a breather. The poetry forums are so full of new faces. I'm enjoying their poetry and prose, but I feel like some are being pushed away. Few come to the discussion boards and so I'm takin in the comfort of familiaity before I go back there. Ahh, feeling much better. Okay, back to the in crowd, lollz.

we were all new once, and since then?
I'm never sure who is here now, who was yesterday, or will be tomorrow.
I love it when ANYONE reads my muse's dribblings, and when no one reads?
Well, that's never happened yet, thank goodness!

I don't know what it is anymore. I've been here a few months and like NONE if any of my work gets read. I try NOT to get selfish but, I see great work when I read it. I'm not saying mine's the greatest here, Lord knows it iPsn't, but It is good stuff I put out and I want people to read and recognize it because in the midst of writing poetry and such, I'm writing a book that I started Jan 2002 and if people don't read my poetry, and i put out my book...then what's gonna happen..It'll be worse. Peace.

It's sick that people can go SO rude and stuff...I dunno man! PiP is an AWESOME place and when I first came, it was even better but then all of a sudden, POOF no replies to a lot of my stuff and others. Now I admit I have not been here enough but I was pre-occupied with school. I didn't want to get addicted to the internet and forget about my school work. but now that school is out, I spend like a majority of my time on the internet and on this particular site and I just everyone's work to be read and to be EQUAL and stuff...Everyone should have a chance to be recognized and replied to, so why not start now? Ya know? Put an end to this nonsense. And I'm not saying "Oh everyone just jump on and start reading and replying." No, I just it to start...Slowly and hopefully the newcomers will be like the oldcomers and everyone will reply to each others poems and such and maybe just maybe, the oldies will come back to that warm welcome. After all, this is the place for poetry and such, right?
