Thanks to all, that read my poor scribbles here.

I know that I'm awful at acknowledging all of you that reply, for that, I apologize.

And I'm afraid that I will be an even worse "commentor".

You see? It's just too doggone cold in this shack, (yes, I actually DO live in one)to sit at the computer for very long.

It's about all I can manage, to read a few of your posts, before I can no longer feel my fingers (or toes)(or nose).

So, I hope to see more of you guys/gals in the spring, when this shack is warm, once more. I am reading you though, so feel free to write your own comments and sign my name to them.

Brrrrrr!

Ed... you know, I've been cold and lived in places you couldn't stay warm if you burned the place while sitting in the middle of it. It is miserable. ( at least for me it was)

Staying warm is a lot higher on the priority scale than commenting on some drivel I write... so stay warm!

jen, Christipher,
Thanks for understanding my plight. (but it is self-inflicted, I love it here, on the bank of my river, 9 months of the year.)

This IS such a place, Ron

I see small streams of daylight striping the room, from the holes in the walls.

Insulation? Hah!

The woodstove is my best friend right now.
It fights valiantly, in a losing effort.

But, just bought an electric blanket that I should've thought of years ago.

Oh well, that finger thing is startin', gotta go

A good woodstove can do wonders to warm a place, but even well stoked and rolling it can only do so much. Sounds like a nice location though... but I have to be honest, I hate being cold. Electric blanket is a good idea... might think about a little insulation even though it cuts off the light streaming in. Heck, I once insulated a workshop I spent a great deal of time in with cardboard and those styro packing peanut things. Started hitting the dumpsters at industrial sights and hit a mother load of them they were throwing away. Made a world of difference in being warm...

keep warm dude...

Ed, I've been worried about you all day. Are you kidding,
or are you really cold?? I can't stand the thought of you getting
so cold that your fingers and toes and nose hurts. I can't stand
for my feet and toes to get cold....and we don't even have that
much cold weather here in Florida. I've often thought, too,
that I wish someone would invent something to keep my nose warm,
like a nose muff?? Well, friend, I do hope that you stay warm.

Take care of yourself - do what you have to do to be safe and warm. Do you know the meaning behind 'Three Dog Night'? Perhaps you need something warm to cuddle up with at night?

Ethel,
Yes, it IS cold in the shack, but it's my choice to live here. So, don't worry, I know (I think) what I'm doing.

Tonight will be between 10-15 degrees.
(that's about 42-45 degrees inside.)

By the 1st of the year, I'll be hanging around here in a t-shirt. (I get used to it, and I never get colds, Flu etc.)

Thanks for the concern.

Sharon,
Alas, I have only two,(Labs)and they are now too old to jump into the bed. Hence, the electric blanket.

btw, women HATE this place!!

Okay, Ed.....as long as you think you know what you're doing.
I'm glad that you never get colds or the flu, etc., too.
Just be well.......

Anytime you wanna chat about 'cold' feel free to email me. I may have some warmup ideas. then again, I left the interior of Alaska this year after 6 years, 5 without running water. I know a little about chopping wood and working outside with animals at sub-zero temps.
Warm hugs to you. I understand those cold feet and hands. But Ed, you have a very warm heart and soul. Talk later, Kacy

West Texas is cold right now, but not that cold.

Hang in there

Hey Ed
Sometimes, it's cold inside even when you're not in a shack on a river.  Sleep well Bud.  Read ya later.

this is certainly interesting, i have a friend who lives in canada and he's done some rustic living as well. i'm not sure it's something i'd want to experience for any length of time, but i think i'd like it for a while, just because. hang in there spring is around the corner~!
