whew..exhaling already.

Okay--I have been unemployed since 1987--I didn't count 1988--I wasn't paid for that gig.

And? I WANNA GO BACK TO WORK--I know, seems like bliss, but I really am a people person and this is making me insane over here! (The kids are almost on autopilot...mehopes.) So...here's the deal--in a former life? I was an English Education major--and a friend (an ENGLISH teacher of course) told me that in one semester I would have enough credits to obtain my Associate's Degree--which? is enough to begin teaching in this state--as long as I work towards my degree as I do so. (She seems to think I have a knack with teen-agers.) But? I have REALLY bad nerves. And I have already accompanied this lady to court after she was assaulted (she was locked in her classroom by her own students and spat upon) I truly DON'T think, that would be a good situation for me to be in, with my temperament. ?

But? I do love talking to teens--funny, babies and teens, all that inbetween stuff? I dunno..shrug..you'll just have to go watch "Little Nicky" with someone else, yanno?

And? This being New Orleans? I am natural born bartender. But? I am also a natural born drinker. So that's out. er..heh? maybe? ?

Now...I was also thinking that I really like PR work and advertising---

SO..TELL ME WHAT TO DO? This is the "half-time" of my life, and I don't wanna screw up the opening play. For those that "know" me--what occupation do YOU think I am best suited for?

waiting for the wicked to arrive...

Am I wicked enough?  Your note tells me you're not ready to trust your better self behind a bar, tending...although perhaps you could, [like Sam did] you're just not ready; schools ARE a hard gig because of the instability of society today...to take it on, you'd best be teaching college...

but perhaps you're on the right wave-length when it comes to dealing with people.  Are you needing the money?  If not, could you take a less salary and do some social work?

Hmm... Maybe in the States your students are like that. Our kids are good. I find that as long as a teacher cares about the students, but can be tougher than them if they need to be, they never have a problem. I go to a small school though, 1200 students. Maybe that's why. I hear some of the other schools have big problems. I suddenly like my school very much.

um...Kari? you know what social work entails these days? (sorry didn't mean to sound so abrasive) but it's basically--"You have to have a RED card to be at this desk" (after waiting in line ALL DAY AND ASKING IF YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT LINE) then? "Now? Go downstairs to blah-blah--fill out the forms and they will issue you a blue card, and I see also you are in need  of possible medical assistance? Then, darlin' you need a GREEN card, which is only issued at University Hospital. Talk to the desk people there---NEXT!"

almost in tears just thinking about it...

tch to me..didn't mean to ignore you guys--and it took me a bit of time to get over my last response...

The last job I had was as a civil servant for the state of La. Don't laugh, but I worked in the central pharmacy. (My sister worked in Food & Drug Control) Okay.

NOW.

You can laugh.

But within two 1/2 years I found myself on the "assistance" side of that desk---and yes? I DO have a temper--and ended up tossing those forms in the air and asking the woman shuffling papers, "DO YOU KNOW HOW EASY IT IS TO END UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE DESK?"

sigh...

temper, temper, Karen. Cause indeed, I DID go get the damned blue card and blah blah...
I really needed help. sigh.

Why not check out adult education? Teens aren't the only ones who need a teacher.

Or, why not go to an employment agency? See what's available. Maybe someone who tends plants in huge corporate buildings - I love those ladies who come to our building. All the do is water, pluck, trim and spritz.

Or - how about a patient representative at a local hospital? You know, taking their history, checking out their insurance. Making sure everything is signed properly.

Or - how about a Senior Center who needs some help setting up/cleaning up/planning/implementing monthly activities or dinners.

Or - get your license and work for Meals On Wheels

Or - sell your stories

Or - see if they are hiring at the hospital for people to rock babies born in distress

Or - get a job in a movie theater - all the popcorn you can eat and FREE movies (my dream job)

(if there are any good ones here, I just might take one of those ideas when I change jobs)

I have done the second and did actually love it...don't know that I have confidence for the first, but as I always tell YOU--grin--"Afraid? Then do it--afraid."

No hospitals. I am too empathetic. I actually get sick FOR people.

The Senior Center thing makes me giggle. I feel like I am running one NOW.

Meals on Wheels? erg. Both nauseate me.
*blech*

sell my stories? SURE...anyone feel free to contact me?

and? I did look into that--I miss holding babies...but it's volunteer, and Sharon? My friend is a Nurse, and she told me that babies born in distress quite often die. I don't think I have that kind of fortitude.

And the problem with the last is? y'can't sell the popcorn AND watch the movie...altho in better days, the uniforms WERE cute...

hmmmm....thinking thinking

How about a 'tie me to the bedpost'?
I have a degree in pharmacology, have trained under 5 incredibly talented chefs and love waitin tables.  Oh and I tended bar for a while at a Chinese restaurant and a strip club.  Now that's a combination!  lol
So when do we get this thing going?  Are we going to move to New Orleans?  It's such an obvious choice.  Gotta love the South.  They'd just think us 'eccentric'.

Karen...where'd ya go?  This is your new job.  Ya late already?

Cool!!!  Maybe we could get Jimmy Buffett to be a guest bartender.
Hmmm...what would be in it?  I don't know, rum or vodka, I think.  But I LOVE the name!!!!

Can I have a microphone? I'd like to be the 'head comedian bartender'. All the waiters and waitresses could have mics and we could do like mini chat jokes with the customers or something. The employees would have to have a good sense of humor and be poetically inclined (for extemporaneous poems).

It could be called the 'Drunken Poet'...the sign out front would be a quill/chalice with a drunk leaning against the side of the sign.

I am going to need more time to do the sign..where do you find a picture of a drunken poet? LOL

You can have a microphone and a headset, so you can coordinate with the rest of the crew.  And the name's perfect.  Can't wait to see what ya work up for a sign.  Should we start taking applications now?  Wanna post an announcement?  And bonuses would be given based on how funny and poetic people were.

Tell ya what, you work up the drink menu, I'll do the food.
And where did K go?  Never pegged her as a lightweight...lol.

Karen~ Being you live in the party city I have a great idea for you.
Get a lot of real good contacts at all the local hot spots in New Orleans and start your own Party Co-ordinating business for the rich and famous that come to new Orleans.
Do all the planning and taking care of all the small details like when, where & so forth.
Get a few of the rich & famous to use you and they will tell all their friends about the service you offer.Soon you will be the talk of the town for people wanting to put on a week end party at any of the local clubs for all ocassions.
