Dear Dark Enchantress

Due to its content, your poem, "Rape" has been pulled temporarily for review by the Passions in Poetry moderators. We will advise you of the final decision/resolution as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email them.

[because I'm such a polite person and all I'm not going to give his name however he can if he chooses to] - Moderator/ Passions in Poetry

Yes, because this is NOT an important issue. And yes, we need to cover this up because dear God someone just might get their feelings hurt. And most people in this forum have never experienced anything like this before. Besides, honesty?! Who ever heard of such a thing. I mean geez, think of all the trouble it causes. No, no.. we must keep on adding the layers until the coats of sugar are so thick we're completely BLIND. Sounds like a real good idea to me.

Ignoring the sarcasm, why would you assume the poem was pulled because of the "issue." There are any number of poems in the Archives that, in one way or another, deal with exactly the same issue, as well as even more sensitive ones. I honestly can't think of a single facet of humanity that can't be responsibly explored in these forums, and poems are NOT pulled because of the theme of the poem.

They are, however, sometimes pulled because of the way the author chose to handle the theme.

Being reviewed is no big deal. It simply means one person had a concern, and the ONLY person who can tell you what that concern was is obviously the person who suggested you email them with your questions. If the other Moderators disagree with that one person, your poem will be returned to the forums. If most of the Moderators agree, on the other hand, the poem will remain pulled and you'll be sent an email explaining why. Jumping to conclusions before you hear that why is probably premature, as evidenced by just how far off-base your conclusions are.

I don't care if I'm being rude. This is not okay and I'm not going to pretend that it's okay. I don't care about the poem. Rip it to shreds. I care about the fact that it was deemed inappropriate. Yeah, it's not a "nice" poem, but rape is not a nice issue. I'm an honest person.. I'm NOT going to beat around the bush or cover things up.. I tell it how it is. And yeah, reviewing shouldn't be a big deal but considering most of the time when my poems are under "review" I 1.) have no say in it at all anyway and 2.) it is permanently removed without me being informed. So excuse me if I'm a little skeptical about the system.

Then why should anyone here care whether pulling the post offends you, Jaime? Or do you think fairness is a one-way street?

And pulling the poem in the first place wasn't a complete slap in the face? Not just to me, but to anyone who has been the victim of rape? How many times have you been raped, Ron? I think I have every right to be angry and offended.

I don't want to discuss this anymore right now because I'm upset and I honestly don't want to just sit here pissing people off. I'll be back later.

Hey...I sympathize..but I have to agree with Ron (hard not to, he's so maddeningly sane--heh heh)

But just from my personal experience? I have had poems pulled, and I have found the moderators to be ever ready willing to listen---I have had some things returned to the forum, and some not. If I may suggest? Just state your case to the moderator in question--you may be delightfully surprised to find that it is NOT an inquisition--and? have you applied for a stint of DM yet? It really does help to gain an understanding of what the process actually entails.

I agree with you, about the outrage and injustice you express regarding rape. And if experience counts...I have been quite honest about my past. Molested as a child. Gang raped at fourteen. Raped again at 23, and an attempt at 26...

I understand your need to express yourself, and perhaps not feeling like your rage was heard? It feels like its happening all over again. I won't say you have my sympathy, but trust, instead, you have my EMPATHY.

a *hurt*heart*hug for you?

Jaime - I have e-mailed you a similar message regarding the resolution of this issue, and felt I should post the content here for finalization as well.

***

The moderator who brought your poem up for review, did so appropriately, and is evidenced further, in that the resulting moderator discussion by multiple parties, offered a wide variety of opinions regarding this particular post.

The final resolution was not based on any aspect of the discussion here in the lounge thread, and as a matter of fact, there were additional issues beyond the content of the thread to consider. Primarily several instances of profanity within the responses themselves.  That language has been appropriately edited, and the final result is that your poem has been returned to Teen.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Sincerely,
/Kit
