I was just wondering how old everyone is in here and how old you were when you started writing poetry.

I'm 32 and started writing when I was 10. My first poem was about a rose I put on my mother's casket.

Nichola, we have several Forums in Discussion for questions such as this which are not framed poetically .  I will move this over to our Discussion forum and place it under PipTalk Lounge, where it can continue to receive answers.

Now, to answer the question!   I'm the age of everyone's mother...or grandmother, in some instances; and I knew I wanted to write when I was seven years old.  I also knew at that age that I didn't know enough to write.  So I tucked my little seed of desire way down inside, and decided that I would make small attempts here and there [did some writing in my teens] and thought "No, still not old enough", and about three years ago, I let my muses out.  They haven't let me down since.

Good question!

Hi,

I am 28... but my age varies with what I write... sometimes I write like a 40 year old, and at other times like a 20 year old...
my "writer age" depends if at the moment of writing I go through deep thought chains, or emotional moments... I usually finish a write within 15 to 45 minutes of having started... and hardly rework... at least one of those is a bad habit

and as far as when I started, frankly I can't remember, but the first one I read/showed out to a few close friends must have been when I was around 19... I used to write in bits and pieces, I guess and kept losing everything, but I hardly cared ...

My first poem here was the first ever shown to so many (then) unknown people... and now I have here a circle of friends... all because of poetry...

well... I am chattering away... so I must stop...

Regards,
Sudhir

I would have the same query as "secretlife", but you need not answer the question.  I can imagine several reasons and any one of them will do.
I will offer this, however.  Your reading of other's poetry is going to be influenced by what you know about them.  Is that a good thing?  You'll find that sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.  I prefer to read the poetry, and a good deal of it, before I "meet" the person.  Their poetry may be more challenging to understand, but I will have made fewer assumptions about it.

I'm 19, though I act a hell of a lot older and more mature than my older boyfriend. (If he wants y' t' know, he'll state his age. )

Been writing poetry since I was 10. Or at least, seriously writing it. I cringe to think about what 'seriously' was then. Scary, scary, scary. It really peaked when I was 14, then went to something like one poem a month, and it's starting to peak again.

i'll be waiting for you
do exactly what you're told

I'm 25....

And I started writing when I was in 7th grade, whatever age that was. I wrote before, all the way from 2nd grade, but my first attempt at poetry was in 7th. The poem was called "to die entwined in the dark" and was about someone melting to bones and dust as an atom bomb went off just up the street.

I was quite disturbed, I suppose.

I'm 41---going on 12... and? I can't remember NOT reading--I may have been born with a book in my hand...and writing--since grade school. I've always loved poetry.

In the flesh.. yes, in the flesh.. I'm 17. Birthed in the April tempest.

I started to spill when I was 12 or 13. Sometimes you just fill the cup up too much.. and it's got to drip and slip..

I'm 19- 20 in December. I've been writing for almost as long as I can remember, writing poetry as far back as 15 yrs old.

Why is it that we are at our most ingenius only when trying to destroy the things that keep us alive and thriving?

I'm 50ish (that's 107 in wranx years), I started to write about 10 months ago. Not sure why, forgot how to paint, I guess.

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

High nichola_louise
You seem to have had quite a few replies to your question, so why don't you share your age with us as we have with you.
I am in my mid-fifties in years but young at heart. I wrote my first poem on 12-24-99 as a gift to my wife for Christams. Writting never entered my mind before then, it just came to me like a gift from God and he said write, which I did.

nichola_louise,
Well...I'm half way to 105. I attempted writing as a newlywed at the age of 19. When the hysterical response to my attempt at romantacism died down I mostly gave up. Wrote very sporadically until last September 10. PiP's what a God send for me.

And your age would be...?

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I am 22, god am i old. I started writing at 14, teenage angst was my first muse. Now I am 22 and I am still hormonely imbalanced.

I'm 46, been told I look 36 and I feel 26. Been writing off and on since 1968, I was 12. Spent alot of time during teen years writing out my frustrations. Now I only write when the mood strikes and that hasn't happened for awhile My muse keeps vacationing and never leaves me any fodder for the thoughts.

There's the man I chose. There's my territory.....Shakira
