I think so

What about you?

Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I thought of you
And turned to the gate
And on my way came up with the answers
I scratched my head
And the ans

Heh, can't stand his music, never had a chance to look at (or thankfully, hear) the actual lyrics..so, i'm off to look for lyrics..I'll comment later

BUT, I think all song writers are poets, as they write truth that comes from their souls. And isn't that poetry?

Never been a big fan, though he probably does come out of that whole South African writing tradition.

Said if I only could ...

Well, I found some lyrics..they're not so bad In my opinion, he's a poet (but then, in my opinion, a song IS a type of poem..so...)

Purple & Sudhir- hehe, sorry! Still couldn't bring myself to listen to the songs :-P But the lyrics were alright

Yes!!

I know some of his lyrics are cliche (I'm too lazy to find the accent) but most aren't, and he puts 'em together pretty originally. I adore his music...don't think I'd be able to listen to it for hours on end 'cause it doesn't differ -too- much from song to song but still. He makes me happy.

heh - most of DMB's songs are about sex and/or drugs veiled inside (mostly, occasionally they're more up front about it) supposedly deeper messages. This is not to discount him from poet status however.

On the other paw - if you were to ask if DM was a good poet, i'd have to unequivocally throw a big-ol' negative at that one.

well it's certainly bad if you took my words and opinion as offensive. i merely stated my feelings on the manner in regard to the question you asked. there was no suggestion that your opinions were in any way invalidated by mine, nor is there any reason (practical or implied) to become defensive over it.

And I was saying that you have a point but the subjet of he songs dont bother me. Most rock songs are about sex and drugs anyway.  All I was saying was his subject matter is no big deal.

let's laeve it at that

oh - but i'm so bad about leaving things...

you misinterpret my words to mean that it's a negative thing that his songs are about those subjects. they're part of life, and while drugs are not something to necessarily support, i don't think it makes for a bad song or a bad person. add to that, the fact that i never once said i didn't like dave matthews - i have three of their albums.

i simply said i don't think he's a good poet.

understand now?
