hmmm...this thread was inspired by the "sexy songs" thread--you can all page Dr. FREUD--he won't come yanno...

but anyhow...my thought was, anyone who has been to a funeral/wake type service has heard/witnessed the travesty of music. It has occurred to me, and so I presume it occurred to YOU, that perhaps you have a special song that you would like to be remembered by? Perhaps even a list.

sigh...I live dangerously...so I cautiously
burned my own cd...

You show me yours? and I'll show ya mine.

At my own funeral... I am so tempted to go out of hand and be inappropriate. But I won't.

So instead of citing songs like Blasphemous Rumours, I think I'd find myself leaving a request in my will to play something soft and beautiful and sometimes mournful, like any CDs by Faith & the Muse.

I am now proud of my control.

I think that something classical would be good. . .

Adagio for Strings -- Samuel Barber

if you've seen Platoon, you've heard it. . . it's also been played for other funerals. . .

If anyone finds this at all offensive, please delete it. Not my intent to cause anyone further pain.

Wild Horses by Tori Amos
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or off stage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away
I know I've dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses we'll ride them someday
Wild horses, couldn't drag me away
Wild wild horses we'll ride them someday

I Grieve by Peter Gabriel
I Grieve...For you
You live...In me
So hard to move on
Still loving whats gone
They say life carries on
Carries on & on

For in much wisdom is much grief
& he who increases knowledge
    increases sorrow...

I don't find this offensive at all. Sometimes we've gotta find humor in the harshest of things. I mean, sometimes it's not appropriate, but no lines have been crossed here.

Oh, and I've decided there's something else I want played at my funeral...

Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, as performed by Michael Ball.

Ow. But wow. Y'know?

At my funeral, I'd want them to play "The Best Has Yet to Come". It's from the Metal Gear Solid---it's sung in Irish Gaelic...but it's still REALLY good! That and it's depressing too...heh

Others are too in love with the sound of their own voice to speak the truth...

I'd much rather have heavy metal played at my funeral. Something with a bit of power behind it because for crying out loud, it's MY funeral. Keyword: MY. *grins*

bagpipes... and a beer for everyone.. hey, I'm Irish.

P.S. - This isn't offensive at all. Anyone who finds it offensive can just bugger off.

I like bad words from the British isle. Bugger and bloody are so much more expressive than any of our precious four letter words. And if you stop to think what bugger means... Ow.

Anyway, don't wanna stray too far from the thread...

I want Tapping the Vein's entire album The Damage played at my funeral! It's so strong and powerful and boom but regretful too, and the grrl's voice is so..... Jus' ask Mike.

"Save me! I think I'm bleeding... I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful!
Save me! There must be some mistake...
And I can't scream! I think I'm bleeding.
Save me! Look, I'm bleeding."

Yeesh. Talk about a major (but yummy) blow.

I am now off to listen to s'more Depeche-sampling rockin' grrl music.

Okay, let's get serious. I make comp. albums to fill time, so I can make a comp. album for this, entitled My Own Funeral. It's a track list that I think not even Mike will understand, but they all feel right to me. Here we go:

A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste - Meat Loaf (or maybe Scarpia's version; hard decision)
Wisdom - Delerium
The Garden of Delight - The Mission U.K.
Hurricane - Tapping the Vein
Goodnight Lovers - Depeche Mode
Die With Me - Type O Negative
Good Enough - Sarah McLachlan
The Unquiet Grave - Faith & the Muse
Coma Black - Marilyn Manson
Lucky - Bif Naked
the great below - Nine Inch Nails
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - Michael Ball
Lithium - Nirvana
Black Black Heart (album version) - David Usher
Promise to Try - Madonna
The Funeral Party - The Cure

Y' know what I want at my funeral?

The sound of people crowded into a room, remembering my life. And living theirs.
