My parents were in town two weeks ago and we watched this movie together (I enjoyed it). My mom remarked on the title -- she thought it was a strange word. The first time I heard it, I thought it was a great word and great title.

I think we heard the same thing.

So, when you first heard this title did you have any reaction at all?

Curious,
Brad

Brad,
you mean as far as it being a movie title, or a way to describe someone?
As both, I think it's great.
I want to see that too........
I never see movies, my folks saw Planet Of The Apes already! I'll see it on DVD I guess LOL

I just want to know if the sound of the word makes you turn your head.

It honestly did nothing to me.

Brad, I only opened this because I was curious what you had that was "Unbreakable". The word itself wouldn't even make me watch a movie by that name. It would have to have a great preview to catch my attention. Never heard of the movie til now.

Yes it did, because I wrote a poem when I was really depressed, and part of it said, I am not unbreakable..though I try.
So it made me take note.
The story was pretty good, not as good as I thought it would be, though.

I thought it was a great word and title too, Brad, I don't know, just something about it that makes me want to investigate what it could possibly be about. I'm real big on interesting titles, but more so as it relates to poetry, but it did pique my interest. I haven't seen it yet but one of my daughters did last weekend and said she enjoyed it. One of my ex-coworkers (I just started a new job last month) has a bit part in it which, of course, will guarantee that I see it.

Denise,

We agree again? This is getting strange.

You know, I was wondering if we really ever do divorce the meaning from the sound of our native language (in a sense, we never hear our own language). In retrospect, I did have enough of a context (it was the title of a movie) to see this word as uncommon as a title.

When I found out that it was a 'superhero' movie, I liked the title even better. It's a much stronger word than 'invulnerable' for this context.

Interestingly enough, my parents didn't really like the movie. I get the feeling that it tries to hard to be an 'in-between' movie. If you go in thinking it's another "X-Men", you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, if you go in thinking it'll be the "Red Violin", you'll also be disappointed.

But it was 'just right' for me.

But then I liked the "X-Men" and "The Red Violin" too.

Thanks for all the replies -- interesting to see the diverse reactions,
Brad

PS I'm a Bruce fan as well. Although I usually prefer him in humorous films; I like Bruce humor.

This is getting really strange, Brad...I'm a big Bruce fan too and also preferably in the humor genre. Well, hey, I guess we can't disagree on everything. What would the odds be on that?!

well, as a word, just to grab my attention...hmmmmm, well I think it does....it makes you stop and think if it's really true or not. I used to buy those unbreakable combs, just to see if they would break   LOL I guess I'll have to see that movie now

Well shoot...there are enough "unanswered" names and questions here for me to do a little researching...."unbreakable" and "Bruce"....

I could guess...but I'd rather be right...

I'll be back....

Unbreakable is a great word which has a fragility that is not there in other similar words such as invincible. It hints that the object that is unbreakable might somehow be injured yet remain intact,,, never thought about before Brad brought it up though.. interesting word..

Okay Brad...since you wanted "first thoughts?" "Unbreakable" reminded me immediately of a childhood memory. My brother was bending one of those plastic combs that had "Unbreakable" imprinted on it,
and my mother told him, "Stop that, you will break it." And he replied. "But it's unbreakable....See?" and he bent it, and of course, it broke. For whatever that is worth, it is another of my weird logic offerings to you. Smile for me Brad?

SEA and Serenity,

Jamie,

I think that is an excellent description. I wish I had seen it before.

So should the film 'Titanic' have been called 'Unsinkable?'

serenity hinted at what the word suggests to me:

"Unbreakable!" - a word beloved of small boys handling household gagets.  The word is a veritable challenge.  An invitation to try!
