"the Internet is creating a class of people who... are so solitary they can hardly be bothered to call Mom on her birthday."
-The Washington Post

I just finished reading an article in the "Yahoo! Internet Life" magazine where this was quoted. The article goes on to state that there have been several studies which conclude that the Internet can be addictive, and can also interfere with "normal" life.

The most ironic thing I found from this article, is that the researcher who first "discovered" Internet Addiction has a recovery group... on the Internet of course.

Hmmm... internet addiction?  Could be.

"Hello, my name is JP and I am an ICQaholic"

Yes, I admit it!  My ICQ has been taken away from me!  My internet privilages are strictly controlled, I do not have the password to the Guard Dog software my wife installed... I'm a baaaaaadddddd man.

What a stupid way to phrase it. There's a difference between being solitary and being anti-social. Perhaps that guy needs some help in expressing himself.

Maybe we can get him to make a guest appearance in the English workshop or something... We could always open a "Poetic Addictions" Forum...

What can I say...people are resistant to change...

Interesting phrase to use also in this politically correct society - class. That could be offensive.

I somehow doubt that this 'so solitary' class of people just sprung up, or found themselves due to the internet.

Hah - perhaps indeed, they were solitary before and merely found the perfect avenue for their expression.

Poor little innynet...don't worry...we won't abandon you...
