You know when you walk into a room and everyone stops talking, there's that peculiar silence that somehow gets eaten up all of a sudden with a lot of incedibly noisy conversations that tells you, you were the subject of something that wouldn't be funny if you were privvy to it...well, the same goes when there is a thread and no one but a select few answer it...

I'm feeling like the fool that got had and everyone but me, knew it..

Anyone else care to share when they thought or knew, they were the subject of someone elses idea of misconceived fun?

I could never, and I mean never, make fun, be the cause, inflict any type of embarrassment or to make trouble for anyone else....I just don't find that gratifying in any way, shape or form but I will debate or argue something but never to shame or cause hurt to another person....

Guess we all take turns in being born, huh?

But, I'll say it now and I'll always say it, I would rather be helpful, rather spend time being kind than wonder if it worth my trouble, cause someday, I will need someone's help and I will hate asking so I hope they will be able to see past that and help me anyway...

Was I the fool or were they, for trying to make me look like one?

Well, you've got me scratching my head here, Rainbow. Would you care to say what you are referring to?

I suspect you already know my answer to the question, Cindy. But I'll say it any way.

Trying to help someone who explicitly asks for your help is never foolish. Even if they subsequently, and in my opinion blatantly, ignore your advice. The Internet in general - and Passions very specifically - desperately needs people who both know the technical side of this medium and are willing to share that knowledge. Where would we be today if Shakespeare could only write if he first learned the arduous process of making paper? Had you lived 500 years ago, you would have been the one pounding the wood pulp for him. And smiling all the time you did. That's why I get so irritated when I see you helping someone and not being appreciated.

You are appreciated. And that thread in Q&A will help a whole lot of people with similar problems, even it if did nothing for the person asking. I've already bookmarked it for future reference, knowing this same question will arise again and again. It always does.

You ain't no fool, Cindy. Just that rare individual with both knowledge and the willingness to share it.

Bal: I think Ron just answered that question although I was and am reluctant to specifically say what I meant...

I guess this reply is to to include Ron and Nancy's answer as well as Bal's...

Since the time I first took my very first Apricot apart and fell in love with making things work, sorting out why certain things happen, exploiting them, making them run faster, causing GPF's, making Word Perfect print files work without the right drivers...I was spellbound...I had to know why things worked or why they didn't and so, I did  take everything apart, tried every configuration asked for MSDOS manuals for presents and read them like others read novels....the passion consumed me, I took to programming like a swan gliding on a lake, I was fascinated by what *I* could make happen and i also realised I had a penchant for this kind of world and I got lost in it and I'm still lost in it...wonderfully so...to make things happen is so eurphoric, it kicks me every time....I guess you have to be a lover of both people and time to understand where I come from....   I adore my world and constantly live to find new problems but also their solution...

I can't give any reaonsable explanation other than, I was born to this world and thrive on knowing, that with my fingers on a keyboard and mind lost within new concepts I somehow feel like I belong and I happily share my world with anyone that wants to know...I am enthusiastic, I love it and I spend my time resolving or helping to ensure that that this magical world that brings all types of unimaginary worlds to fruition can someday bring us all, so much closer...

to think that a few years ago we spent countless thousands on talkign to our loved ones across the world and now we can do it by aid of technology for a few pence...

To think we can share emotion with a whole world across time zones previously unimaginable and have them anwser in real time, Egypt, Mongolia, India, Belguim, France, America, ...wow !!!

I am daunted by all these prospects to talk with people and cultures that I could only ever previously have concevied should I be lucky enough to visit that country and yet here, I can do so by simply adding simple words, my thoughts, my emotions and connect with someone who understands a few hundred thousand ...miles, away....

Yep, I will always do all that I can to let US, share, we are only words but we speak as one ...

I truly love my world and the technologyy that allows me to speak, in real time, to all of you....Wow!!

What a dream come true !

Cindy,
First and foremost... YOU ARE NOT A FOOL ...

I had found the thread in Q & A yesterday and was so disgusted by everything that I just decided that was enough for yesterday... upset at myself not being to do anything... not that I am some pompous king or something... but I have always prided myself to be a solution-provider with computers or otherwise...

In my life thus far I have gone out of the way several times and often ended up asking the same question. I was called a geek for trying to explain how RAM is different from ROM when I was 15 and had picked up reading computer topics. I was branded as "useless nerd" for 18 hours a day spent at programming for a stretch of 18 long months. As I blink my bespectacled eyes, I feel I have been mistreated a lot, but then what the heck... I feel proud to have helped people learn the art of computing (I used to be a teacher in computer skills for 6 months when I had helped a friend take the computer knowledge to the very ruralish parts of India for next to no wages)... In personal life, I have got screwed aplenty too... My only girlfriend walked away with my best friend when I was 19... (well, we were young and immature then so I thought, but maybe I was a fool then thats what haunts me still)...

But life carries on in its own merry way... and thats how it is supposed to be...

KEEP YOUR CHIN UP AND FEEL SELF-IMPORTANT...

NOT EGOISTIC OR PROUD but HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF....

...YOU CERTAINLY ARE NO FOOL...

My regards,
sudhir
P.S. sorry for rambling about...

Ooops, sorry Sharon, you must have been there when I posted that last one but I didn't see you or my ISP is playing cache me if you can type tricks again...LOL

Thanks sweetheart...btw, you couldn't find the fool cause she was hiding under the desk...*g* but it's damn hard typing from there, I can tell you...   I'm kidding !!!

Sunshine: Thanks for the HUGS..

Traci: Thanks for the comment, I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I guess that shows, huh...ooops...*g*

Sudhir:  Yep, I went through the anorak stage...LOL...although I have to say, we can be a bit boring at times cause once we get started we think everyone is as totally rivetted as we are and of course, they're not...LOL...I can remember my husband asking me one to choose between my pc and him and yep, you're right, I chose the pc...there really wasn't much competition..*g*...but I do miss the cups of tea..LOL

Sorry, my wacky humour is back....the teaching in rural parts of India sounds great..   I wouldn't mind doing something like that but I'd really like to teach children with learning difficulties...nearly got to do it the year before last on a NVQ basis but something happened and I didn't...

As for the girlfriend walking away, why does that make you a fool?  We can't control the actions of others, only are own....Huh, I must remind myself of that sometime..   Thanks for the reply, btw, have you thought about becoming a member of Experts Exchange?..It's good fun if you have the time to spare..

Ron:  Thanks..

HUGS all
