Of course, as poets we are able to write about a wide range of things.  However, I have noticed that some poets here at passions and even famous poets from centuries past always have one or two special favourites that they write about often.

I have written about many topics, but, I tend to always write about or include images of butterflies, sunflowers, angels, and birds in my poems, you could say in a sense these are my signatures.

So please tell me what you love to write about, what is your signature poem, and why does your heart tend to lead you to incoporate such images in many poems?

~~~~~~~~
My signature poem is Metamorphasis - briefly about escaping the life of a caterpillar to become a beautiful butterfly to experience freedom and flight
I think that everyone knows that I adore sunflowers, their golden hue makes me feel cheery and sunflowers are just majestic, beautiful and unique to me.
I also write about angels because since I was a little girl I have believed with all my heart that angels do exist, in writing about them, it brings me closer to God. They are so magical and hopeful
I love to write about birds, butterflies and anything that flys because I, like many, long to fly and experience utter freedom.  I think many humans would love to grow wings and fly high in the sky once in their lives
I look forward to reading your replies
This is a cool topic, Melissa! I'll have to think more about this, but I will say now that I love roses. Maybe that's cliched, but they have a special meaning to me so they show up a lot in my poetry.
The topic is immaterial, as I write whatever's on my mind, or something my mind plays out or creates. I've found there are several different 'styles'. Nan and Doreen write in the 'high' style, using precise structure and thesaurical wording. Balladeer uses a 'middle' style, which also incorporates precise structure, but uses a mix of both high and mundane words. Me, heh, I'm more of the 'low' style, using commonplace words and style to get my message across to the bourgeouis masses swilling about in their materialistic depravity.
I don't reckon I have a signature poem...for some reason, out of the thousands of poems I've written, I can only remember a small handful...mind like a sieve, I guess.
Mostly myself....
No seriously.  My main theme is usually... me...
Melissa~
What an interesting idea for a topic.
I think that my work is varied ...
My Indian heritage poetry is my signature writing.
I doubt that you could categorize me, other than to say
that I'm a buffet writer.
While there are strong romantic undercurrents in much of my work, they originally began as a way to get my work
on a site that uses love and romance as their theme.
Quite honestly, once they began to accept my work ...
I was able to sneak a whole lot of other topics in.
I don't think of subject matter when I write ... I just write !
*Girl ... I'm SURE glad to see you so active in here again !
Makes my little heart smile !
Keep it up, ya' heah ? !
Love ya'
LOL @ Alicat !
Violence, death, dismemberment, gore, gratuitous sex, insults, vapidity (is that a word? It should be), terror, New Zealanders (though that's in the same category as terror and gratuitous sex), British HumoUr (which is really easy... just write something that's not funny...) - Yep sounds good to me.
Hi Melissa! This is a great topic ... and honestly, I'd not thought about it before. I don't think I have a specific theme myself. Often I try to tell little stories more than anything, and question life as I go. I like to get into emotions where I can, and play with them ... it's the psychology factor from growing up with a father who's a psychiatrist I think! LOL
erm since I do a lot of haikus I'd say I write a lot about nature
The only reason I write is because I am a hopeless romantic.  Enough said.
The White Wolf
PS  Christopher- I wouldn't write too much about sex.  It attracts the wrong kind of attention unless you are the wrong kind of guy!!
I write about Romance. . . I always have. . . since I began writing. . . I don't know why. . . it's just always been that way. . .
The highs, the lows. . . soulmates and kindred spirits. . . the heartache and heartbreak. . .
I do write about other things. . . erotica, nature, haiku, death. . . but I always come back to Romance. . .
Thanks Melissa. . . these are really great posts you've started!!!
