Of course, some usernames are obvious.  However, I have always wondered why some poets here at passions choose such unique and creative user names.

Please share with us why you choose your user name, is it a nickname from a loved one, does it express your personality, what you love to write about, or is it another meaning of your first name, etc?

This will be interesting to learn, I look forward to many replies!

~*I choose the user name "Melissa Honeybee" because honeybee means Melissa in Greek.  I originally wanted to choose Honeybee as my nickname, but, for some reason it wouldn't accept it, so I just choose "Melissa Honeybee."  In a sense, my user name means Melissa Melissa, kinda silly, but, I just had to include honeybee in my username.  That's also my nickname as well from some friends

I chose Witch's Brat because I had read that name in a book I had liked, and it had kind of a ring to it. I originally intended to be a dark, mysterious sort of person, but I guess that just wasn't me. Besides, Elizabeth needed someone to calm her down out of her hysterics, and that job fell to me. OK, I'm rambling, but that's why I have my name.

Well, in College, I started out going by Michael, my first name, but fell to some confusion as Michael is a very popular name. So, I went with one of my middle names: Alastair. This was shortened to Ali, then extended to Alicat (I think it has something to do with the way I scratch backs and purr). And I've been Ali and Alicat since then...about 11 years so far.

Alicat, the Persnikitty

btw, persnikitty is a pun off of persnickety (fussy about small details, precise, and analy-retentative)

Oh wow!  My username is very creative - you wouldn't believe how I came about it!

My name is James P. Burns.  My wife started calling me JP about 28 years ago and somehow it just stuck!  Can you believe it?  Gawd!  I die laughing every time I tell that story!

I've been to Jamaica a couple of times and absolutely LOVE it.
The people are the friendliest and happiest people I've ever met in my life.
One of there many phrases they use there is "irie".
Irie means "every thing is alright or everything is good" in jamaican.
If you ask how they are doing, they will answer, Ya Mon, Irie Mon".
So,... I like the place and the people so much and loved the meaning behind the word, that's why I chose it.

*FYI: So many people pronounce it "eer ree" and that is incorrect.
The correct way is "eye ree".
Ok, that's all!
Have a great day

Well to begin with I would have chosen the name Lone Wolf but as many of you know it is already taken.  So I chose White Wolf because I believe it is rare to see a completely white wolf and I think they are fairly unique .  But the biggest reason is my intentions in everything that I think or do are of the purest order,  hence the color white.  As for wolf, many people who have met me keep their distance from me as if I would pick one of them or their friends off for a snack or for sport.  Which just isn't true but I guess that is what is put forth.  But because of that the friends I do have are true friends who have dared to get close enough to see that I am just a puppy with a heart of gold.  But don't tell everyone.  And that is why I chose the name considering that lone wolf doesn't quite fit.

Well, mine's actually my name. Not a big mystery there, though I've had a great laugh realizing that several people have thought me to be a man (Kit Carson and all that).

Kit is just a short form for Cathy or Catherine (but I'm only called that when I'm really in trouble). My dad started calling me Kit about 30 years ago, and it just stuck.

No only joking. I actully use my name,But (and I thought i'd just share this with u all ) the username I have on like chat sites, email and the like, is Maz which is just an abrevation. And when I first started using the internet I went though a whole lot of usernames, this one just kind of stuck

Well, the name "LoveBug" was born from my love for the VW bug, and for all things romantic. It is also the name of my imaginary bug (don't ask), and some of my friends call me LoveBug, due to my sinceless romanic charactor.

False gems may shine as brightly as the genuine article, but there are always those who can tell the difference.

Well - mine is a dream I guess - I mean, my name is Michelle so Shell is an abrieviation and the Angel part is the dream...
I usually have more creative ones...but my two favourite ones on chat would probably be too long...
(I'll share them with you just in case you care)
My first one and the one I use the most is "misguidedangelwihacrookedhalo" - with for those of you that can't break down big long words is 'Misguided angel with a crooked halo' and my other one is "misguidedpyrowithacrookedmatch" - 'misguided pyro with a crooked match'.  I really wanted misguided pyromaniac with a crooked match, but it was too long...

Well, mine originated from a typo, LOL.  I was orgininally going to be "Alwyne" which was a name I was using for a main character in a story at the time.  But when I entered it in, I put in "Alwye" instead...and from then on, that was my Passionate identity...

I picked this name because I always seem to have my head in the stars   I'm a night person by nature and besides who wants to have their head in the clouds when they can get lost in brilliant shining stars!

I want to protest this post!!!

I think it's a calculated plot to make me feel small and inferior. No one ever pays any attention to me around here. I feel slighted and ignored. Sigh - so be it. I'll have to settle for anonymity.

Oh - And I picked Christopher because it's such a strong, British-sounding name.

hehe

why must Christopher always whine about everything???
I've been here what...a week, and the first thing that I notice is the way Christopher MUST get in there and have ALL the attention turned around on him...
It's just a ploy because he feels inferior...
hmp...what now??
I know...
Let's start a "No Christopher" club...no...that would be childish...wouldn't it?

(ah sigh...just in case he took offence to this little reply...sorry...didn't mean it...)

I chose "serenity" not because I am serene...oh no...smile...but I lifted that from The Serenity Prayer...

"God grant me the courage to change the things that I can, the serenity to accept the things I cannot, and the wisdom to know the difference."

and yet another quote I love:

"It is a terrible thing
To be so open: it is as if my heart
Put on a face and walked into the world"
-------Sylvia Plath

and one more, because three's the charm---

"It's not whether you get knocked down.  It's whether you get up again."
---Vince Lombardi

When we opened the forums, and there were NO other members (hard to envision, isn't it?)- I just happened to use my own name as Ron had - Although Passions is the ONLY place I'm called "Nan"... Everywhere else I'm "Nancy"... Would you believe???...

I've got a couple of back-up pseudo-cognomina I use for cavorting around though...

Serenity and they say were different?

I chose my name WhtDove because of the dove that ascended down upon Jesus during his baptism. And because most of my poetry is spiritual in nature.

And well, it's become my nickname around here now. (dove)

I used to be a member of an NG for a wonderful Microsoft Gaming Zone game called Mind Aerobics which was created by the same gentleman that invented Tetris.  When MSN scrapped the game because it was too labor intensive, the NG went along with it. . .

Anyway, we had a thread on there that began with this phrase: "Yep, you're reading this".

This thread lasted for several months and eventually became our own little movie!  Kinda "Star Wars", kinda "Star Trek". . . in which the forces of "Yep" battled the evil forces of "hmmmm. . ."!  LOL

Anyway, I had made a comment that one of the leads in our little movie should have a trailer all their own, and a massuse named Sven!  One thing led to another, and people thought that I wanted to be called Sven. . . by the time I realized what was going on. . . it was too late. . . the name stuck. . .

And there you have it. . . the birth of a legend!  LOL

Ok, but seriously, most of my poetry is of the Sylvia Plath-ish melancholy type. Not because I want others to feel sorry for me, but because I express myself best when I'm depressed and blue (which is probably why I haven't been writing lately... happieness gives me writers block! grrrrrr.)  And being manic depressive, it just seemed to suit me the best. Besides, the other name that I wanted was taken...

My username used to be Scarlett, I chose it because I like that colour plus I liked the way it sounded..Then I went through a depressing time and decided to call myself
"Dark Angel" I felt that it suited me perfectly during that time and well I found that it still does suit me, though my friends would disagree. I've had only one person tell me that "Dark Angel" suits me perfectly.

I'm known as Little Bird (or LB) in alot of forums but when I was introduced to Passions, I wanted a change. (Don't know why. I guess change for change's sake.) So I grabbed at random one of my poetry books, flipped through the pages, read some of the poems and chanson de geste jumped out and bit me in the nose. It is French, meaning Song of Gesture. As Little Bird, my online friends, when responding to poems, would comment that they like my 'songs'....and being a pianist, I decided to adopt this new handle

Tonight I decided to venture into all the forums. I am amazed at how large Passions is!
Whoever is responsible for creating this site....a resounding Thank you!

Am I too late?  I guess that everyone thinks that I got my name from my love of cats..

Well, they would be right.. Now only that, but the fact that I was Kitty for so long wasn't working except for a few.  Well, a Black Panther came to me in my dreams and a friend told me that was my spirit guide.

That and I had to have a grown up name that when with the Alicat Monster up there.  He made feel young..  Too young..
