child."

"Welcome to Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts."

"Mars is essentially in the same orbit...Mars is somewhat the same distance

oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe." 8/11/94

this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in
this century". 9/15/94

"I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and
democracy
- but that could change." 5/22/98

"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one
word is 'to be prepared'." 12/6/93

"Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things." 11/30/96

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the
future."

"The future will be better tomorrow."

"We're going to have the best educated American people in the world."
9/21/97

"People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and
have
a tremendous impact on history."

"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." Governor George W. Bush
Jr., Sam Donaldson, 8/17/93

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We
have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."

"Public speaking is very easy." to reporters 10/9/97

"I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican"

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

"When I have been asked who caused the riots and the killing in LA, my
answer
has been direct & simple: Who is to blame for the riots? The rioters are
to
blame. Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to blame."

"Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it."
5/20/96

"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." 9/22/97

"For NASA, space is still a high priority." 9/5/93

"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."
9/18/95

"The American people would not want to know of any misquotes that George
Bush
may or may not make."

"We're all capable of mistakes, but I do not care to enlighten you on the
mistakes we may or may not have made."

"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in
our air and water that are doing it.

It is a shame upon the whole country, when people mock their own president--their own choice.

Well Ess, the thing is--with this president, there has always been the question of whether or not he was actually our choice.

Political satire is practiced in the entire world. It can be used to enlighten as well as amuse.

I do not feel shame reading this thread.

I feel shame watching the evening news.

and peace to you, m'friend.

Ah. Here ya go:
http://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA96/PUCK/part1.html

Seems we have a proud history of just that, and last time I checked, we also have the RIGHT, as evidenced by the Supreme Court:
http://www.fact-index.com/h/hu/hustler_magazine_v__falwell.html

Though, actually, I'm not sure if the initiating thread qualifies as satire. It's a simple example of holding someone accountable for their own words, and that's something we have been having problems with of late.

A little humor can ease the pain sometimes.

I don't wish to blame such humour, but the extent and abuse of it.  If you mock your own president (or Prime Minister) it is mockery of your own democractic choice, and country as well; and not just in front of your own countryfolk here, but in a more worldly way.
What I have to say to people in Canada and in the United States is this: Give it up!
Try defending the honour and reputation of the man you put onto the throne for once, instead of going on with your haughty insolence and satire.  Try giving more permanance in your opinion and commitment in supporting the President, or Primeminister.  Practice what you preach.  And perhaps eventually Folk and Leader may meet in the same "place"

"haughty insolence"

Hardly.

And there's no need for that between us, Ess.

Even here at Pip, we're held accountable for our words. Many citizens of the United States (as well as people around the world) are looking for that accountability from this administration.

I get a bit bristled when someone tries to dictate what I feel. Your post indicated that I should feel shame.

I decide my own feelings. And since I can choose also to not take offense at the inflammatory, just as you can choose not to read the threads you find so distressing.

Frankly, Essorant, I'm surprised at your reaction. But shrug.

I have the same option, so I'll leave this one alone as well.

I'm registered to vote, and as little faith as I have in that process now, I'll exercize that right since so many fought so long and so hard for me to have that right.

Peace to you.

Ess quote "Practice what you preach"

We are, we are practicing our freedom of speech, and exercising our inalienable rights to verbally bash lying lame politicians.

Smile.

I've noticed how edit-happy you have been in the past, Essorant, so forgive me if I just leave this be, and exit smiling. WIDE.

I have no problems with you or opinions, edited or otherwise, and I sincerely hope this doesn't escalate into akin to a WAR between us.

I've had enough war.

But no one in that process here or there deserves to be mocked.

In my humble opinion, this administration has mocked the entire democratic process not in word, but in deed.
