This is my first (new subject) post, and I'm a little disturbed that it is a complaint, but I guess that's how it has to be sometimes.

Due to the mean facts of life, I am currently relegated to ponder this state of insomnia I have been thrown into.  All officers of this evil state harbor machinations against my sanity.  They love to perpetuate the illusion that I'm either bawling my eyes out every second of the day, or painting the whites of my eyes with bright red hobby paint, and that I wear bluish-green eyeshadow *under* my eyes.

It might have something to do with my fiance being a police officer (actually, it's the only reason, but that's another post) but that's his chosen profession (at least for the moment).  Considering he said he would police for free (his pay is pretty darn close), simply because he loves it so much, I doubt we'll be going anywhere.

Soooo...if anyone knows if those "herbal remedies" work or even some way for me to knock myself out without giving the good ol' cranium a concussion or the brains of the operation permanent damage, just send it my way.  Send the sandman.  Send a pillow filled with chamomile tea.

ps sorry about the rambliness...it happens after 23 hours of wakefulness

First off Angel Face - Welcome to Passions and welcome to the Alley!

Second - you're in good company here - there are many of us in the same boat - I gave up a while ago even trying - When sleep comes, it will come. As for remedies - hmm? Don't know - I've tried several, but like you, often find that the cure is worse than the illness. I only use them in severe situations... ie: last month when I would not sleep one night, sleep a little the next, then stay up again the following. After about a month of that, I felt like I was about to die. (And unlike ms. Sunshine there, I'm not old! ) Best thing to do, I've found, is not to fight it - you'll sleep when you sleep - use the "up" time to do all the things other people don't have the time to do.   After all, you'll get enough sleep when you're dead!

I am one of those lucky people who very rarely has trouble sleeping, maybe once or twice a year, at the most, I will toss and turn a night through. One thing that I have found that does help me is a cup of chamomile tea in conjunction with a warm bath with chamomile bath salts. Good luck!

Tylenol PM works for me when I need to use it.
It will put you to sleep, and you don't feel like lead the whole next day.  Hope you get some sleep soon!!

Angelface, sorry to hear of your problem! I've been there all my life.

Things that work for moi:
A headache always lets me fall asleep for some reason so you might try banging your head against the wall for awhile...
A solid bed routine helps as well. As in: EACH NIGHT follow the steps in your ritual in the same order. Strange things help as well, such as the right kind of bedding (If I don't have a comforter with a quilt on top I can't sleep…honest.) the same type of tea each night (the aroma with eventually remind you of sleep and help relax your senses.) or the right arrangement of furniture in your bedroom. Also, if you're up to it, I would suggest trying yoga; a few of the right, lighter positions over a period of 20 minutes will make you feel like you're already IN a dream.

What not to do: watch T.V., pace, worry about not sleeping, read trash (magazines, dull novels, the real-estate section in the newspaper… etc.), exercise, eat.

I think that the trouble with your cause is that there's no cure for worry (except maybe vailum). This actually might be a condition that needs looking into…

If all else fails, cook something (for the next day or period of days … like a loaf of bread), read a really amazing book, or, heck, even rearrange your bedroom furniture to suit your sleepy taste…
Personally, I just got a night job and decided the biological clocks of rest of the world have the REAL problem.

~ Beth

P.S. serenity, I thought icq was a CAUSE of late sleepless hours.. hmmm.. You wouldn't know anything about that wouldya, Rock?

I hope you've found some zzzzzz by now, I know how you feel believe me, I've been there, then of course when it's time for me to sleep, it's then time to wake up again, good luck don't really have a sure fire way,
Sometimes I find reading helps me go to sleep.

first off, I don't have icq.  I'm getting my puter fixed (we live right above the store ).  but, when the durn thing is done in the shop, it will probably be the first thing downloaded.

I've tried teas, chamomile and a box of raspberry tea I've had forever but is still good, and the raspberry actually worked better than the chamomile.

This isn't supposed to be known as life yet...I'm only 20!!

Thank you for the encouragement Chris...I guess this is just the right incentive to get my sluggish bottom to exercise

and thank you for the tips, beth...it's a little hard to keep a routine when I'm used to keeping the "college age lifestyle" ;D

Reading doesn't always help, because when it's a really, REALLY good book, I'll stay awake and read the whole thing and it's 3-4-5 am when I get done anyway.

and to anyone I didn't name...thank you for your help also....it's nice to know there are people who actually care about my sleeping habits

Angel,
Well, I'm 21... if I can do it, you can  .
(And I'm talking about the last five minutes before bed: washing your face, brushing your teeth, etc.)
Another thing ...you're 20 and engaged? How on earth did you find the right person for you so dern quick??? Hints, please!

hahah  The story of our romance is rather complicated and astonishing...fodder for a future poem, perhaps.  It goes all the way back to my junior year of high school, when I hadn't even met him yet.  I'll say one thing:  I am 1500 miles away from home to be with him.  I'm from Minnesota and am living in Georgia.           <---roll they did when everyone found out where I was moving.
