Ok..we know what you like for breakfast but here's something else.

Let's say they (those infamous unseen folk) are going to honor you by naming a sandwich after you.

Here's the question: what would be on this sandwich? (could be your favorites or it could be something that describes you - Sorry the Gore/Bush Bologna Sandwich is taken!)

Well I actually don't like sandwiches that much, so I don't know what I'd want on it...but I am looking forward to other responses to this.

Not like sandwiches?! *shocked look* I live off of them....my sandwich that I'd like to have named after me would have to be 3 pieces of salami and a good helping of miracle whip on toast!  Yummy!     (It is also good for dinner..I had it tonight, lol).

Like I say, like I say - you're all weird!!

Heh...

Oh and it would be called the Great Severn Original Peanut Butter...Not Crunchy, Just Smoother Than Smooth...full of that rich nut goodness and...yeah, ok - you don't need an ad...hokies...

LOL at K!!

But I'd have to say that mine would also be a Peanut Butter w/Nutella and Strawberry Jam on white bread. . . Jam, btw K, is thicker than Jelly, and therefore more spreadable. . . and for those of you who have no idea what Nutella is. . .it's a wonderful chocolate/hazelnut spread that is like peanut butter. . .

And what to call it??  hmmmmmmmmm. . .

Well, what else would you call it but a. . . *ahem*. . . PB 'N J!  LOL

Severn - What you call jam, we call preserves

I personally like a good tomato and cream cheese sandwich... The tomato should be fresh from the garden, and the bread should be something other than white... if you don't have something other than white bread, make very sure that it's fresh baked and carefully sliced.  The tomato should have just a touch of salt on it, and the cream cheese should be light and soft.  If the cream cheese isn't light, then please make sure that it's on the side...."*

I would be the Philly Cheese Steak, perhaps with a touch of Vegemite for flavor -- on Cuban bread, not a hoagie.  Not because I feel it stands for anything I stand for, but because it's a damned good sandwich, assuming you can get your hands on some Vegemite ... which brings me to another point:  why is it we have all sorts of Thai, Chinese, and Latin grocery stores here in the US, and no Aussie markets...?  All we have is this "Outback" steak house, which is really just a Texas steakhouse with a British guy trying to do a commercial in Aussie accent ... sigh.  DISCRIMINATION, I say ...

Okay, first of all: CRUNCHY!!!!
smooth is for simple people who don't want complicated texture and variety in their lives.

...And plain P&B with cherry preserves? Layered with w/ crunchy sweet potato chips btween the P&B? ~drools~

Jann Elizabeth, That's camping food! You just described Camper Pies! Lord, are they delicious...

Chris: I think yer a knuckle sandwich, personally... oh wait, I mean you NEED one.

MY sandwich (truly a Beth invention):
Two extra-thick slices of sourdough, two cuts of ham one slice of turkey, a big ol'slice of extra sharp cheddar, two slices of American, a spread of JD hot & spicy mustard (just enough to cover the bread, but not make it mooshy or squeeze out the sides), a drizzle of honey to contrast w/ the mustard, two bread & butter Stackersä pickles, two pieces of lettuce, a tomato if yer in the mood, and a tall glass of OJ.
To DIE for!!!

My favorite sandwich (when I eat them) is, a crossiant(lightly grilled) with cream cheese, alfalfa sprouts, avocado slices, smoked turkey, bacon, and holey swiss cheese. Really good sandwich. Reminds me of my days(and nights) in Berkeley just off Telegragh Ave. at a little eatery called Edies Ice Cream Shoppe. Sure do miss dem days.

A highly indignant K enters...

RIGHT.

First let's set the record straight Miss Cor:
This statement:

'Okay, first of all: CRUNCHY!!!!
smooth is for simple people who don't want complicated texture and variety in there [sic hehe] lives'

is completely unfair...I must protest. I mean, to base a person's personality and life-interest around a peanut butter choice...tch...even in jest it didn't come across too well...

You and I might just need a little chat about individual ethnocentricism....

~smirk~

Sven and Elizabeth - look guys...really...smooth = best.

Crunchy is fine in some circs...but hey - why not eat a peanut? Smooth is the result of careful blending...and ohh the texture. It is the texture that does all...

Perhaps I could aid you in dying Sven? Hehe...

(and of course it isn't the same Elizabeth..or it would be crunchy if it were the same...hehe)

Now as for Vegemite...Linda: Have you heard of Marmite?

New Zealand equivalent...

like Pepsi to Coke etc

So...look for a NZ market lol and you might find Marmite there - even the packaging looks the same...

THEY ROCK!!!

YUMYUMYUM...most delicious stuff available...

sigh...

I think I have to go and have a marmite sandwich and a SMOOTH peanut butter sandwich now...

~glares at Severn~ Alright, Missy...

'Okay, first of all: CRUNCHY!!!!
smooth is for simple people who don't want complicated texture and variety in there [sic hehe] lives'
"is completely unfair...I must protest. I mean, to base a person's personality and life-interest around a peanut butter choice...tch...even in jest it didn't come across too well..."

I believe the only reason that YOU think that this comment didn't "come across too well" is because it hits a personal note! Are you indeed a person who loves texture (TRUE texture, not this smooth IS texture stuff…) in their life? Admit it, you just like to hang out with a bunch of forum geeks… sheesh!

"You and I might just need a little chat about individual ethnocentricism..."
This from the person that so vainly states:
"Sven and Elizabeth - look guys...really...smooth = best."
I didn't single anyone out! This was a PERSONAL belief. I mean, you're trying to rally up other people into the smooth group! How low! Obviously YOU are preoccupied with the superiority of the smooth group. Not I, who as a distinct, assertive individual simply stated my opinion. I did not classify other's choice as wrong… simply hindered and bland!

…and it's ethnocentrism. (I'm defensive about my typo, okay?  )
~shakes head~ "[sic] hehe" Bloody, 'Zealander…

Now, let me tell a little something about smooth vs. creamy.

This is your argument?:
"Why not eat a peanut? but hey - why not eat a peanut? Smooth is the result of careful blending...and ohh the texture. It is the texture that does all..."

There IS no texture in smooth! It's just a slick little glob of spread! With crunchy, you get the best of both worlds! Smooth delicious waves of perfectly blended peanut butter, lusciously fused with little crunchy bits of peanuts… Smooth is good only for sticking to the roof of your mouth! Crunchy gives a sandwich PERSONALITY! Think about it, smooth is just moosh! On a sandwich, you have to have crunchy to get the MOST out of the peanut butter…to really taste it, and appreciate the smoky flavor of the peanuts used… Without the expert little chunks, it's just a sandwich with smashed fruit and depressed peanuts!

I mean, come on, what, are you from Australia or something???

*darn it! You caught the "there" before I edited…GRRR.   Man, how certain things in an argument come back to bite you in the butt! (But a CRUNCHY-lovin' butt!)

Rock: I take it you want that sandwich NOW? Watch out Mr. Nin-jitsu….

~ Beth

P.S. What the heck is IN Vegemite & Marmite anyway? I've heard so many opinions on that stuff… and I still don't know what the heck it IS! (all I know, is I bet they would be better with crunchy peanut butter)

~GAG~

Believe me - peanut butter and vege/marmite together - nonononono....

The mite spreads are yeast and malt based...loaded with Vitamin B - and niacin, thiamine and riboflavin...sigh I love those words...I could say niacin all day long...

Um...let me see...how to describe it - ~K runs to get her jar~

Hmmm....it is black. Sticky TEXTURE - don't want to get it in your hair...(which I have been known to do on occasion). You don't put too much on your toast either...overload = inedible...

Taste hmmmm..how to explain taste - powerful that's for sure. Kinda bitter but not really. Look - you need to get together with Linda and go find a NZ/Aussie market.

Now that I have been nice Miss Cor....

Smooth has as much claim to texture as anything else...You can't argue the point that smooth peanut butter fails to have its own texture successfully. It is hard to define texture isn't it? I look at a smooth blue sky and see texture...crunchy may seem to have more texture perhaps - but that opinion can surely only arise from your own limited perspective...I place no heirarchal limits on the validity of texture.

Further you have destroyed your own argument...I am sorry BUT...

quote:
There IS no texture in smooth! It's just a slick little glob of spread! With crunchy, you get the best of both worlds! Smooth delicious waves of perfectly blended peanut butter, lusciously fused with little crunchy bits of peanuts… '

is inherently contradictory...

why?

Let me see....specifically...'Smooth delicious waves'

Oh my - is there something smooth in Crunchy perchance?

'fused with little crunchy bits of peanuts…'

I see...so really, in essence, the peanuts in Crunchy peanut butter merely ADD to the precious perfection of Smooth peanut butter.

Hmm...

Let me then rephrase my question in accordance with Miss Cor's argument:

Why not eat a peanut with a teaspoon of smooth peanut butter then?

quote:
Smooth is good only for sticking to the roof of your mouth!

What brand are you eating?

Sheesh...never happened to me before...good old Sanitarium...

quote:
Crunchy gives a sandwich PERSONALITY

If you are reliant on a sandwich to have personality before you can justify eating it - especially if there is a sandwich available which apparently has less personality (ie - smooth) then that is sad...heh...

But then again. What is personality? We may just have to discuss that in Philo...

Subjective wouldn't you say?
I suppose I could see my Smooth sandwich as having personality...personally (no pun Int.) I see it as a rather nice sandwich that is superior in taste AND texture to crunchy.

quote:
Without the expert little chunks

Hmm..how are they expert? Or was that merely rhetoric?

quote:
I didn't single anyone out! This was a PERSONAL belief. I mean, you're trying to rally up other people into the smooth group! How low! Obviously YOU are preoccupied with the superiority of the smooth group. Not I, who as a distinct, assertive individual simply stated my opinion. I did not classify other's choice as wrong… simply hindered and bland

Really...I am just trying to lead the blind...
However, if you read my words correctly you might notice something that again destroys your argument...

I notice you left this out:
'Crunchy is fine in some circs'

Why yes - the low, debased, smooth OBSSESSED K concedes that crunchy is OK sometimes. (Like when there is nothing else left and one MUST HAVE PEANUT BUTTER NOW AND ALL YOUR FLATMATES HAVE LEFT TO LET YOU USE IS CRUNCHY...~K takes deep breath~ )

It is true I am preoccupied with the superiority of smooth yes. Because I am right. Simple as that hon. (heh heh)..so really I suppose what I am doing is:

'not classify[ing] other's choice as wrong…but hindered and bland'

quote:
I mean, come on, what, are you from Australia or something???

Humph - according to half of America I am!!! Grrr...but you employed that solely to incite my wrath to get to a point where I couldn't think straight...tchtch..an overused tactic... ~snicker~

Now...as for this typo that I intentionally created to see if you were watching closely...errr yes...moving on...

ahem

Oh and btw I love my forum geek friends (In Not-Australia we say 'nerds' btw...just thought you might like to know...if we're going to converse you need to know the lingo after all...)

So - you are suggesting that my forum geek friends do not possess texture considering that they are such a huge part of my life?
Hmmmm...Philip would love to hear that...so would Maree (Dark Angel who you have met in CA) - with whom I walked down a beach earlier this year in very-much-Australia; it had sand of the most amazing texture - and she is a person with more than a smooth or crunchy personality...

My poetry expresses my texture...

but then you would know all about poetry and how it relates to life right?

Alright ladies. . .back to your corners. . . and you can take your Peanut Butter sandwiches with you too!!

Sheesh. . . who knew that we could have an International Incident over Peanut Butter!!

There will be a round 2 I'm sure. . . but for right now. . .please allow me to interject into this. . . simply because I want to

quote:
Peanut butter was first introduced to the general public at the 1904 World's Fair.

We began marketing Creamy Jif in 1958. Extra Crunchy Jif made its debut in 1974. The name 'Jif' was chosen because it was easy to say, spell and remember.

I would say, that based on this piece of information, that Crunchy peanut butter was the choice of a new generation that was bored (yes, bored) with only one choice (that being smooth) and wanted some variety in their life!!

But K, you're right when you say that "smooth" is a texture. . . a regular one. . .but a texture none the less. . . so, a new argument will have to be made as to why crunchy is better than smooth. . .

quote:
People in the U.S. on average eat 7 pounds of peanuts and peanut products per person per year.

170 million pounds of Jif are consumed in the U.S. each year. That's enough to make 2 billion peanut butter sandwiches, or to spread a football field with a layer 55 feet thick! (Now, there's a thought that'll stick to the roof of your mouth!)

There are about 1,218 peanuts in a 28 ounce jar of Jif.

It takes approximately 120 billion peanuts to equal the amount of Jif peanut butter produced in one year.

Over 90,006 acres (140 square miles) of peanut crops are used to make one year's supply of Jif.

About one in every ten peanuts grown in the U.S. for food use ends up in a jar of Jif.

The Jif plant in Lexington, Kentucky is the largest peanut butter producing facility in the world."

from Jif and the American Peanut Council

Now, there's a lot of info there. . .but I'd like to point this part out. . .

quote:
There are about 1,218 peanuts in a 28 ounce jar of Jif.

So you see K, when you eat peanut butter, you're eating peanuts. . . they're not whole, but they're there. . . crunchy is just for people that demand a little more of their snack choices. . . there's nothing like the "crunch, crunch" of the peanuts as they meld with the jam and the bread to create a sensation on the taste buds. . . filling your mouth with the wholesome, fresh roasted taste. . . mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

Just wondering K. . . have you ever tried crunchy peanut butter???

just checking. . . but perhaps another taste test is needed. . . may I suggest that you're not giving crunchy a fair chance?

And, have you ever had peanuts on bread?  It just doesn't work. . .

Oh, this makes me so sad.  So sad indeed.  I sure wish I had a sandwich right now.  But no, they don't feed us on Sunday nights here, and all I have to eat is a bag of popcorn.  I sure wish I had a sandwich.  Barbequed beef, turkey, and ham all on a six inch bun with some french fries.  Mmmmm, that sounds good.  That sounds sooooooooo good.  Or maybe peanut butter and red plum jelly.  I ate that everyday at lunch for 6 4 straight years during high school.  Oh, I love food and I hate how I don't have any.  Oh, the humanity (really, this IS on the same scale as the Hindenburg tragedy...trust me).

I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.

Well K, I have traded in all of the Creamy peanut butter that I own for Crunchy. . .

And I tried that "grilled PB&J" suggested in an earlier post. . . DEEELICIOUS!!!  Better with crunchy peanut butter. . .
