Well, I've pretty much had it. I had this lovely note in my mailbox waiting for me a few minutes ago.

"i am sorry but all of your peoms have been terrible. They don't make sence and they are just plan dumb. i am sorry but i had to tell u
that before somebody else did."

And no ... this time I didn't respond, cause it's just downright mean.

Ron: I'm going to forward you the e-mail. I may be the only target here, but thought you should be aware of the sender. I'd like you to pull my poem "Barren" from the main site please.  I don't need this, and frankly I'm feeling a little shaky and really crappy about this one.

Kit~
I have read a few poems by you and I think that they were some of the best that I have ever read. You shouldnt (I shouldnt say this because if it were me I would probably feel the same way) care what other people (especially these people that are saying this to you) say. You have some amazing work. Maybe they are just jealous that you write beautifully and they cant write like you. I am sorry that someone is doing this to you too. Whoever it is needs to grow up.

Kit, There are alot of people on the net with nothing better to do then dish out negitive criticism for no reason but to cause trouble.
If you take you poem from the main site, then they win and you've played right into their game.
These people don't deserve your acknowledgement. People do these things to prove that they can manipullate people.
They deserve your pity and nothing else.
So don't take your poem out, it deserves to be read. Its a wonderful poem, and your words will live on and give other people comfort that have expierienced the same.

Thanks Erin and Parker. I don't like letting jerks like this win, but I haven't got a lot of fight in me right now. Since Barren was in the subject line, that was the poem they were on when they wrote the note. Two's enough for me. One snarky comment I can laugh off, but not two. I'm losing a bit of self confidence, and I haven't got a heck of a lot to begin with.

Kit, that is the uttermost rubbish I have ever heard in my life, you poetry is without doubt. And I know I speak for thousands here, absolutely the most beautiful, elegant, delightful wonderful and fabulous writing I have ever seen. You have so much ability, so much talent that whom or more accurately whatever sent that note must be a no talent and green eyed jealous toad. I hope the little pig, and that's being rude to pigs, I hope his face falls off and he's eaten by a crocodile. (You can tell I'm cross, that's my worst curse.)
Kit you have more talent in your pen nib than that awful whatever.

Hey, Kit maybe you should just post Mr. Poetry Critics email address here so some of us can send him a piece of our mind.
Of course he may not understand since the English language is beyond his comprehension.

Geesh, don't worry about it.   Your poems are wonderful, and anyone who doesn't have the scence   to write with some hint of intelligence isn't worth the worry. (((HUGS))

Kit...first - have a hug. I know this may seem devastating hon. I really do. We writers are sensitive creatures...even when we receive criticism we like it to be spoken well and with encouragement. I actually think criticism is vitally important to our growth as writers and also curbs a tendency to think we are beyond improvement and are perfect, wonderful writers etc.

This comment however is NOT criticism. Frankly hon - I think it is truly beneath your notice.

Firstly...let's look at the spelling and grammar of the world's authority on Kit's writing: 'sence'...hmmm....'plan' instead of 'plain' - beautiful! Of course the crowning glory is 'peoms.'

Secondly - did this person state WHY they didn't like your writing? Only that it didn't make sense to them...on reading their little note that hardly surprises me. Perhaps you could email back:

'the cat
sat on the mat
and ate a rat'

that might be more in their range of ken?

At passions we are accustomed to a supportive, loving network. When that network comprises the majority of our internet contact and experience it can be shocking and hurtful to experience any other side.

But, Kit, I really want to encourage you not to give up here...to let this imbecile's poorly thoughtout opinion prevent the sharing of your work and shatter your self-esteem.

You deserve a lot better than that...and this person has no grounds to base his/her opinion on.

If you can hon try to let the sting of hurt go, focus instead on all the positive feedback you have had...and know that we love you and your work.

Many hugs

K

Kit---if it makes you feel any better...at another forum--an un-moderated forum--I got this lovely reply:

"You've obviously mistaken poetry for that stuff that comes out of your (fill in the blank) in a fit of diarhea."

Some people just feel so powerless in their lives, they take their frustrations out in a cowardly manner--behind the protection of anonymity of the internet. Please do not pull your poem. Don't let them WIN. These people are simply not worth your time or tears. They will find another, in time. In the meantime...write about it...it's the best revenge!!!  Hugs to you, my sister in poetry...and, as Irie says.."poke 'em in the eye!" and as Kethry says.."write on!!"

Kit:

Kamla is right ... this poor excuse for a critic is most certainly beneath your notice.  Personally, I would have been amused by such an attempt at insult authored by someone who is quite obviously an idiot.  Honestly, if a person misspells such simple words and cannot even take the time to type out the word "you," I for one would have a hard time treating any communiqué they sent with anything more generous than contempt.  But that's just me.

Ignore it, Kit.  Don't deprive the more worthy visitors of the main site of the chance to experience your poetry.  Would it help if I say please...?

BTW, I think posting this moron's email addy here would be a GREAT idea ... so we can all write him/her a little "thank you" note, dontcha know ...

When the main site is updated, we get more than just new poetry. The existing poems are also updated, specifically with the comments that often come in with the visitor's votes. I haven't downloaded all the votes yet, but here are a handful of the comments for Barren. It seems there are some few people who appreciate not only Kit's talent, but also the choice of topic.

Rene: What a good poem. The use of words is so good. What an awsome poem.

Matt: One word...Beautiful.

Diana: I just lost my little dog T-Bone, and everything you said in the poem is how I feel in my heart for my pet.

violasolano: What a beautiful poem! It was very hard to read through the tears that it brought to my eyes. I too can truly understand the pain of losing such a precious friend. I still miss my last litte one that I had to put down last month. She was the only one that I stayed with until the end. They all brought me such joy, but the pain when you lose them is sometimes almost more than one can bear. Thank you for the poem

michelle: i love this pom.. but im sorrry to hear what has happend because im going to have to get rid of 2 dogs i truly love..

Susan: I really liked your poem. When i read your poem it made me think of my cat that i lost and loved very dearly.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all of your kind words. I think that posting their name and address would only feed someone like this, and I don't want to perpetuate it any further. I've forwarded the name and address to Ron and also asked him to pull the poem.

I'm grateful for all your thoughts and encouragement, and I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but unfortunately, it does. I think I'll just lay low for a while until the bullseye fades from my forehead.

You are all very much appreciated,
/Kit

Sorry Ron ... I must have been typing as you were. Now I'm really off on a tear session. I'm not sure what I want to do. I'll come back or send you an e-mail when I pull my thoughts together. I'm not thinking clearly right now. Thank you so much for taking the time to post these for me. It means a great deal to me ... thank you.

Thanks guys ... I'll sleep on it, and see how I feel about it in the morning, you've all given me wonderful advice and it helped reading the comments Ron posted that I hadn't seen yet. I really appreciate all of you. I just had a nice little diversion too, which reminded me that there's "worse" out there, so I shouldn't take this so much to heart. I'll see if a good night's sleep clears the brain and helps me see it in a better light.

Much appreciation again to everyone,

I wanted to say that this comment is not criticism (at least as we define it here). Severn's post was right on the money here and Skyfire, also, seems to see the humor in this comment. I know it's tough when such things are directed at you personally but it really is funny if you think about it. Try to imagine a person condemning all current geological theories by arguing that the earth is flat, or showing why your song is bad by playing it on an out of tune guitar.

This person didn't take the time to spell properly (obviously, not just typos) and probably didn't even bother to read his (probably a he) writing -- why do you think he spent anytime reading your stuff seriously?

It's like saying, "Hey, I didn't really watch that movie but I didn't like it and that's the truth."

It probably doesn't help to say the comment has destroyed itself and you don't have to acknowledge, recognize this person's opinion but you don't -- really, you don't.

keep writing and keep posting,
Brad

Kit, I haven't read all the replies here, but I'm sure I'll repeat everyone else.
Things like that, that people say are just plain upsetting. No one can blame you for being upset about it.

But don't pull your poetry off the site because of one person's opinion. I've read your poetry, and your very good at it.

So keep trucking, and I'm sure it helps a great deal to read what others have said about it. Don't give up Kit!!  Keep smilin, and just IGNORE them.    HUGz

Kit, you know there is a section on the main site called 100 favorite poems. There are a few names in it that I'm familiar with. Most I've never heard of. But one name is very clear and it's YOURS. If your poetry wasn't good and loved then it wouldn't be there. Those people that voted on your poem loved it. So I'm kind of jealous,  . I think that you should be very proud of your poetry, because it is loved. To remove even one, because of some low life would deprive many people from having the opportunity to enjoy it and even have it touch their life.
So just remember, their are thousands of critics that have written very bad remarks about many a great poet, painter, builder, singer... nobody remembers those critics but the artist.... Well they are remembered and loved because they didn't bury their work in the basement when they were criticized. So don't let this clown get to you, or the world will be deprived.

You "all" are right, each and every one of you. I don't know how anybody can stay sad around her with this kind of friendship and wisdom around them. A good night's sleep helped too. I guess this came on the heels of a rough work week and was compounded by that other comment. Two in a row just seemed to give this stupid one more weight somehow. I think I recognized myself in some of your replies this morning and realized that if it had been someone else to receive this, I'd be saying many of the same things you've all told "me".

Sooooooo, Ron ... we'll hold off doing anything. You can leave the poem and my e-mail address available on the main site. Heck, they could find me from my website anyway, right?

I couldn't single out any of you in this response, because you each touched my heart (and brain, lol) ... thank you guys. OK ... I'll take a deep breath and call this "closed", with many thanks to each of you.

It's clear to me that this individual is jealous.
Why else would someone say something so nasty like that?
It's the same person isn't it?

I also agree with skyfire.....

Kit,
I think that your poetry rocks.  The person that wrote you that letter is probably someone that can't write good poetry and need someone to down so that they could feel better.  Don't give up though. I don't know what I would do if I came here and didn't have all of this wonderful poetry to read when I was feeling down or happy. Some of the best poetry that I have read are from the people here.  Some of the poets here seem to feel the same way that I do at the same time and it is good to know that others understand.

So let the emailer beware, cause I'm sure that you are going to write bigger, badder poetry and it is going to blow them away even more.

Love,
Lady

Kit, most of what needs to be said has been said, but I'll add my piece.

You are a very talented poet, one of the most talented here at Passions (and that's no easy feat!). I know what it's like to deal with people like that, and it's never easy. The best way to get revenge is to write even more than you did before!!

Oh, and never EVER feel that you shouldn't write poetry about your animals. Animals are great friends and companions, much more loyal than people could ever be, and it hurts just as much to lose them. Most people feel the same way. I want you to know that this poem that you refer to really touched me. I'm an animal lover, and you describe everything perfectly. Anyway, I'm really glad that you've decided to keep this poem on the main site. Critics will always be nipping at your heels, you just have to keep your head up and go on.
