There is good and bad in every change ... sigh

When I first found Passions over a year ago (for those of you who don't know, I had a previous identity), I thought it was one of the greatest places on the net.  I still do.

The difference is, there are over 4,500 members and Lord only knows how many visitors that agree with me now.  A relatively small number in the scheme of things, I know, but compared to our membership numbers a year ago, it is a LOT.  I guess the problem is that I am feeling a little overwhelmed.

I peek into Open now and then, which used to be my preferred posting place (back when I actually had anything to post, LOL) -- and I don't even recognize half the names.  The poetry written by those I DO know drops off page one so fast that I have to literally do searches on my favorite poets to see if they have written anything.

So the reason for this post is twofold: to apologize to the poets that I used to read and reply to religiously ... please forgive me or URL me ... LOL.  Additionally, I would like to apologize for NOT posting in Open anymore ... I never have been able to bear crowds, be they real or virtual.

Sigh ... oh well.  Forgive me my nostalgia, folks.  I am truly happy for the success this site has enjoyed -- if anyone deserves that, it's Ron.  I'm just an oldtimer longing after the pre-server load days.

Open DOES move fast....but a suggestion? If you add your favorite poets to your library?
Makes life a bit easier. In fact? I think I will put YOU in mine right now...

As I posted in response to a poem last night...

"The most consistent thing about my life is that it's subject to change.."...

This place has a life of its own now, and it will evolve accordingly.  Once upon a time we  "originals" questioned each other as to whether we should open this place to the public (The precursive "Blue Page" was a clandestine, invitation-only, poetic hideaway)... If we hadn't gone public, we'd still be limiting ourselves to reading only a few of our favorite folks' works...  We'd be missing a lot of good poetry that way...

Sure, it's crowded - but we also opened the Corner Pub, and CA, and Teen, and the Holiday Forum, and a host others just so that we'd have some less congested alternatives...

Write on, all you Prolific Passionate Poetry People...

I hear ya Linda, and though I sometimes gritch at the speed some of mine and friends posts plummet (I sometimes think we need to rewrite the Theory of Relativity), the wealth of poetry and new people to meet far outweighs the 'bad'. I too know the feeling of sifting through pages and pages of posts, looking for the needle, but ya know what? Often I find more needles in that haystack than I originally intended.

I wouldn't fret too much about the busyness of Open. When you've finished writing a piece, take a look at it and decided which forum it would best fit, and post it there. True, you might not get the responses from your regulars, but you might be surprised at how many you get from irregulars.

Well......I wasn't here when Passions was small, but I do know how fast these forums go. Sometimes get's annoying......*grits his teeth*....but anyway........oh well!
I deal.
