What's the difference between slander and libel? Can gossip be classified as slander?

Good question. If memory serves, slander pertains to spoken falsehoods or allegations of wrongdoing, while libel is the written counterpart. Usually both charges are filed when someone is miffed over what someone else said and wrote about them, the most obvious example being within the tabloid industry. Some offenders try to hide behind the aegis of the First Amendment, guaranteeing freedom of speech so long as that freedom does not impinge upon the freedom of another.

To answer the second query, gossip can be slander if spoken and promotes untruths upon the basis of your character and libel if such is written, whether online, on paper, or in the sky, or even spelled out by people holding cards which together spell out HUGE words.

I don't know much on the subject but I do know that is what is said is untrue the the truth will make itself known. So personally I don't worry about what other people say about me. I hear it and determine if it is true or not but one need not fight for the truth because the truth will make itself known, as I said before. Well that is my penny's worth.

They all destroy. I personally believe gossip is cowardly. It is like leaving a deadly string that chokes the life out of the target. All are venom.
