Psst! Come a little closer...yes..that's it. Now let me tell you something.

Did you know that with the new server, we as members of this fabulous forum have the ability to select a 'designated icon' that will stay and stay and stay (until we use another one)....no more hunting for number 88 (the heart)..no! I can just select it and save it in my profile and when I post, I will ALWAYS have that heart icon showing...that is until I change my mind.

And there is so much more................

All this new stuff and you guys are most excited about icons and bouncing bubbles? Kit, tell them they should be ashamed of themselves.

Smart Search is probably my favorite new feature, too, followed closely by the all-new Daily Topics screen. The most fun feature, though, is the Nav Window. And there will no longer be ANY reason to feel guilty for replying to your own thread.

Okay, Ron, shut up now.

hmm...I don't know who the link was meant for, but it took me to a dead end, but I THINK I finally found some shred of information on Ron's "Is It February Yet" thread. I'm on my way there now.
Just me...feeling like an idiot! Geesh..I hope no one read this before I edited it.

LOL ... but I do like the new smilies too Ron (except I'm with Sharon on keeping a flyswatter handy for that little green guy)

I feel like a kid in a candy shop ... I love the fact that even with the fast pace of Open ... our poetry may just stay on that elusive page one a little longer ... I wonder just how long a page one screen can actually be? LOL! Wheeeeeee!

Is it February yet? The Search features are marvelous....I may even adopt a new name just to see me POP up one day as a newbie! Apparently I haven't been playing around in the new spot enough to have found THE EVER-STAYING ICON FEATURE [SMOOCHES RON! - SANTA COMES IN FEBRUARY!]

I have a feeling the new forums' doors are going to feel like Macy's doors the day after Thanksgiving!

Speaking of the first page...as Kit said, there could be a lot of poems kept on that first page....how? Hmmmm...because YOU will be able to set the number of posts that show on each page...up to 200!!

LOL@Jesse...

Nav window - I am not so sure I should explain this - being the hopeless technical person that I am...hmm.

Ok guys - if this doesn't make sense well..what are you going to do about it? Shoot me? Heh.

The Nav window is the new way to locate the forums. New forums have been added now Jesse, and it is more convenient to list them on separate screens under subtitle things...(help - I think I'm failing already...)

OK - so for example - the discussion and poetry forums are now listed on separate screens.

You use the Nav Window (indicated by an icon of three link computers) to find the forum listings. By clicking on the icon an entirely new screen opens - and you can select the forum you want from that...

that is the Navigation Window - poorly explained by K.

Disclaimer: If that made little or no sense to anyone who was interested do tell - and someone like Ron or Sharon or Nic will actually explain it in a manner that causes electrons to fire and connections of understanding to be made..

Nav Window: See that little dropdown menu at the bottom of this screen? It's called the Hop To (I really hate that name, btw) and lets you instantly jump from this forum to another one. Trouble is, if you viewed the source code to the page, you'd see it is a fairly long list and consumes a LOT of bandwidth. Especially when you consider it's on just about every page in the forums. Worse, there's only about one person in ten who actually uses it - so us other nine are paying that download time for nothing. And every time we add new forums, it just gets bigger and bigger.

Now, imagine instead it was just a link. When you clicked on it, a popup window (not full screen) would appear and look remarkably similar to the main forums screens - right down to the blinking lights to tell you there were new posts. When you clicked on a forum name in the popup window, the popup would close and your main screen would be transported to the forum. Just like the Hop To. Except neater.

Essentially, that's the Nav Window.

Oh, yea - there's a dictionary feature that uses a similar popup window.

Re: Severn and the subtitle things If one was to look at the main forums page, it would be obvious our forums are already divided into Categories. In the new forum software, there are also MetaCatagories. All of our poetry/prose forums, for example, fall under the MetaCat "Main Forums," while all of our Discussion forums fall under the MetaCat of, uh, "Discussion." I'll bet you can't guess what's in the MetaCat called "Archives."

And before someone asks, yes, there are two other MetaCategories, comprised of entirely new, never-before-seen forums. MetaCats are the lubricant that will allow us to squeeze in a lot more than we've ever had before.

Ron: Bless you, bless you, bless you! I'd offer you my firstborn as a mere token of my sincere gratitude and appreciation, but I think I'm past childbearing age... and I don't think I'm gonna be favored with the second immaculate conception... (so would you like a kitten?) LOL. Oh... and THANK YOU!!!! *G*
