When I worked at my first job (cashiering--and I'm still doing that!), back in summer of '98, I rang up a lady who had written a few stories for Guideposts magazine. Her name was Nancy Geng, and she was soooo nice! I recognized her name on the check, and I said that I had read her stories, and she said that it was sweet that I had recognized her name. She was just the nicest lady.

Define fame. I got my picture on the front page of my local newspaper once - does that count? Trouble is, I was 16 and skipping school when the picture was taken.

First big snow of the year. Myself and two buddies didn't want to spend it in a classroom. While wandering the streets of our downtown area, we helped three girls from a local beauty school push their car out of the parking lot. The beauty school was right across the street from the newspaper. They sent a photographer down, I guess to help illustrate the big snow fall.

Surprisingly, my parents just laughed. The school never said a word, either. But myself and both buddies had girlfriends, and they were NOT the ones in the picture. Totally busted.

I guess I pretty much wasted my fifteen minutes of fame.

Ok....I read a story in a "Hotel Motel" magazine...an industry magazine..about a man who got caught in a local hotel's pool in a comprimising situation. He was alone with the pool's suction system (and he wasn't a guest, he lived in that town). The article was about pool safety. But it struck my imagination and I wrote a poem called "Bob's Big Boy". I passed it around at work and someone suggested I fax it to the author of the article. I did. He called me and asked if he could use it once in awhile. I said sure, no problem. Then I forgot it.  About 2 years later, I was dealing with the owner of a hotel in Vero Beach. When I told him my name, there was dead silence. He said are YOU Sharon ***. And I said yes...(very hesitantly I might add). He said he had been at a seminar for hotel managers and the guest speaker recited my poem and gave me full credit. He said it brought the house down!!! I was pleased, amazed, shocked and slightly embarrassed!! It happened again about six months later with someone in Ohio. Well, there it is...my moment of fame..me and Bob Chevront - the REAL Bob in "Bob's Big Boy".

uhmm... I've met Vicki Lewis (Newsradio), David Guterson (author of Snow Falling on Cedars), Nanci Griffith, and George Lucas's seamtress.

Had my picture in the paper for many a things... but none worth mentioning, and the stories are certainly not as interesting as Ron's... and I’ve made a few local TV commercials.

Well, not real close, but close enough.
Some of you know I post to a list, and one member that joined that list is a dear friend of the Osmonds, and takes care of their website.

I was quite surprised finding this out, and she had emailed me about my poems and asked to put them up on her web site. I agreed, and some are there, but we don't talk anymore.

Seems at the time, I had a virus problem with my puter, even though I had virus protection. Good ol' McAfee *yuck*, but I guess she felt it was intentional, and sent me a not so nice letter. I did however explain to her that it was not intentional, and that anyone who knew me, knew I wouldn't do something like that. That was the end of our conversing. *shrug*

ROFL @ Ron! That's a good one

My grandfather is a world-renoun western art sculptor.  He's done his work in many sizes, but has some of his life-size monuments in places like Joseph, Oregon - and Boomtown, Nevada.  There's one overseas, at some amusement park - although, I'm not sure where, or which one.  He's been on the cover of Western Horseman magazine, and has been featured in articles many times.

So, really - all this stuff doesn't mean that much to me as far as 'fame' is concerned, since he's my grandpa...I mean come on, this is the guy that used to try and get me to let him pull my loose teeth when I was young.

I don't know if that constitutes a 'brush' with fame, unless you count all the times I've squirmed away during his tooth-pulling moods.

When I lived in Las Vegas, I had many brushes with fame. You just can't help it. My most memorable ones were Rosanne Barr's wedding reception at Whiskey Pete's Casino at Stateline Nev. and I saw Emilio Esteves and Jon Bon Jovi filming some movie on the Strip. I also got what 'I' refer to as a private concert by Loretta Lynn. I was the manager for the catering dept. and she was headlining the showroom that night at Whiskey Pete's and whenever the roadies and such got there it was my job to make sure that they got the meat and veggie trays and fruit trays and beverages sent to the back stage. As I was taking everything to the showroom to take backstage, I got off the elevator and Loretta Lynn was doing her rehearsal with full sound. I am not a country fan but her voice is incredible. I listened to her thru 2 songs (one was Coal Miner's Daughter) and was just transfixed. She said hello and I said hi, just bringing some food for the crew. She was a very gracious lady and I will never forget that as long as I live.

Karen, why doesn't this surprise me?

Of course, with your schedule, do you have a  personal assistant JUST for Passions to keep writing poems and posting comments? Not to mention that character I keep spotting on ICQ... Where do you find these people? Can I work for you?

And that fame thing, GEES! I forgot all my interesting stuff...
When I was maybe five or so and out with my family I met Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen at a local breakfast cafe (they sat right beside us and I remember them smiling at me and being very nice... but I was more interested in the honey bear at our table). Also, my best friend's parents are very good friends with the parents of Kim and Kelley Deal (The Breeders/ The Amps), in fact, if anyone is familiar with The Amps, I lived in Tipp City (yeehaw). My grandma knows the mother of The Andrews Sisters.. er, did, rather. And, uhm, OH! I had a friend in High School who's great grandpa was the original Marlboro Man.. and speaking of Grandpa's ... mine invented the Downy Ball. No, I'm not kidding.

~Beth

p.s. Nic that is So. Cool. Could I possibly, just maybe see a few pictures of his work?

Fame?  Well, I never had any personal fame, but I've known some famous people.  For those of you old enough, my best friend in high school was Ricky Nelson. He started his singing career in the back of my convertible at Stan's drive in across from Hollywood High School.  Another good friend was Glen Larson. Glen went on to form the "Four Preps" singing group and wrote the song "26 Miles". Later Glen produced many TV shows including: "Magnum P.I.", and "Quincy".  One of my girlfriends in high school was Anne Whitfield who played "the grandaughter" in the movie "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby.
I have also met many famous people as my mother used to be head of information for NBC studios in Hollywood and also later when they moved to Burbank for television productions.

Ok, so, my senior year in H.S I decided to go to New York with my theatre troupe. We were standing in line to get into a place called The Jekyll and Hyde club, and this limo pulls up on the street, so I and about 5 other kids go rushing up to it like obvious tourists, and the window rolls down. Nest thing we knew we were staring at Harrison Ford, and he was staring at us.  He smiled, and asked us where we were from and stuff, and then as an after thought he said
"By the way my name is Harrison Ford, nice to meet you"
We all said
"Yeah, we know who you are". It was crazy. We chatted for a few mins and then he drove off. It was very cool. On the same trip I also met Dom Delouise, who is hilarious, and Liam Neison, and a few others as well. IT was a very fun trip

Hmm... I'm friends with a future prime minister of Canada. That or a future best-selling writer and poet. Or both. And believe me, if she wants to do it, she will! She hasn't decided what she wants to do yet. She writes awesome poetry, but she's not me, so I can't post it here.

Yes, Ms. Jolie. Now if you all will excuse her, Billy Bob needs to take Ms. Jolie to the tattoo parlour. Seems they left off part of his name the last time they worked on her.
He won't allow her to go around with By Bob on her arm.

Okay, I lived in Oxford, MS for a couple of years. Everyone in Oxford jogs...everyone. One Friday afternoon, while my best friend and I were having a steak at the Dixie Creek Steakhouse, John Grisham came in and ate a barbecue sandwich. The strange thing is he had apparently been jogging; kind of seemed to me as if they would cancel one another out.

I am sure that almost everyone has heard of or seen the famous supermodel Linda Evangelista, better known as the hair colour chamelion.  Well, she is originally from my city St. Catharines.

She was in George Michael's Video "Freedom,"
she's very famous on the runway and always is a spokesmodel for Clairol.

At my mom's business, I serve her mom and her dad frequently.  Her dad is extremely friendly and polite, however, Linda and her mom are total snobs.

I've only had the chance to briefly see/talk to Linda there and this was a long time ago, when she still actually flew back to Canada and mingle with us common folk

These are all pretty amazin, let me tell ya. My only, and persistent brush with fame is when I see my reflection every morning.

And Serenity, though I know and love that song...'I'm just a regular guy, with a regular job'...I'm gonna have to edit the title, unfortuned. I too am having difficulty with how to title that song without profanity, since such is integrated directly in the title.....oh well, nothing for it...can't be havin with double standards.

I was on a music video with Roy Clark years ago... I was at the Toronto exibition and there was this big crowd so I barge my way through to see what was happening and came out of the front of the crowd and ended up standing beside him clapping and singing along to some song he was singing... and ended up on TV standing their looking kind of foolish...

Well, I recited two poems here and all this probably equals my 15 minutes of fame... so all I can say serenity is would you like a brush with fame?

Speaking of music, I forgot that some friends of mine in school have a band, and one of their songs is on the movie "Dude, where's my car?". They're really good, can't wait until their album comes out in... march? I think so. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's all.

When they were picking heights Xena kinda missed out...

after all..she is ONLY a Warrior Princess..technically that came under the category of Substantially Tall in the Mythical/Legend Production Line...UNFORTUNATELY the minion in charge failed to note the word WARRIOR in front of Princess (it was written in terrible hand writing apparently - so my sources say) and well...only princess was noted...

Sadly...the end result was a height more suited to a dainty kiss-a-frog, find-a-prince type princess.

Xena makes up for it with all the leather yanno...those boots are GREAT for false impressions.

Sad really isn't it?

She like only comes up to Xena's shoulder's, right?
*giggling* Imagine how fast her legs would have to move!

“Hi, I’m Lucy Lawless”

“Oh, wow, nice to meet you!”

“I’m Renee O’ Conner!”

“Where’d that voice come from???”

*looks down* “Oh. Uhm, hi…
*ahem* Uhm, can you lead to the pot of gold???”

*kick!* "OW!"

hehehe Beware of Xena, and her allies the little people...
