Sorry..this had to have a space all its own. LOL! Comment or not. I had to get it out. Okay..seems like twice. Geesh...

Rant starts here...
IF I SEE ANOTHER POEM IN WHICH PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY TO TYPE "ARE" instead of R....or "YOU" instead of U, I think I'm going to go off on a rant so big that you could cover a small country with the words! GEEESHH!! R or U and other one or 2 letter substituted words do NOT belong in poetry! *KICKS, SCREAMS, RANTS, RAVES, FUMES* Ohh..and thanks to Kitten for making realize that THRU doesn't belong either...

Oh, come on, she didn't come here to be laughed at, and have her pet peeve abused!!! Be nice!!!
Yeah, Temptress, I know what you mean, it makes things harder to read and it looks, well, wrong!!!
Oh well, what can we do???

Personally, I chalk it all up to poetic license.  It's just like driving; at least half of the people out there shouldn't be driving but they're all doing it anyway and somehow, most of them are licensed too.

I can overlook these substitutions for these people probably don't know any better to begin with.  It's the people that do know what quality poetry may be but insist on butchering it by not using speelchecks or watching there grammur that get too me!

Thanks for sticking up for me, dreamer!

Micheal:
Poetic License or not it gets pretty annoying! just makes me crazy!

Kitten:
I know! I know! You couldn't resist, but at least you agree with me!

Sven:
Like I said..Smarty pants! Geesh..we need a "stick my tongue out" icon now!

Coco:
Thanks for the hugs, but I can't resist the urge to *SLAPS YOU* LOL! *sigh* At least you meant well!

Sorry but I side with Temptress....take it to forums who don't care....she cares, I care...it takes away from what could be a lovely piece of work and frankly, shows me that the poet didn't care one way or the other how the poem was to be viewed...which is a shame and waste of space....

oops, I think I just stood on a soapbox....

I don't mean to be indelicate to the people who are guilty of Temptress's pet peve, but if I could add something:

Putting U instead of you, or R instead of are in a poem is rather immature.  It sounds rather "teenybopperish"[assuming that's a word], and not very poetic.  But that's just my own opinion.  I dunno, maybe it's some poetic device designed to convey some current mentality or ideal among youth that I'm not aware of...

But really, whether or not I'm right about the immaturity, putting the abbreviations in the place of real words in poetry is simply detramental to the quality of the work of art you are creating.

YAY! More people who agree with me! Thanks everyone! LOL! I used to write that stuff in my letters to my friends and boyfriend in school until I realized that I could do better! Yes, I'd have to agree that it comes from laziness; and I also agree with anyone else to who agrees with me.

Yes, I agree with you. . . just having a little fun. . . and yes. . . it's TOTALLY becuase of text messaging and chat room lingo. . .

BUT. . . like Ali said. . . it's very Cummingsesque. . . (to coin a word). . . so, like everything else. . . there are two sides to every coin. . .

it's bad enough in everday icq or aol or yahoo messenger, speaking of which i do have the habit of saying enuf, but that's it unless i'm in a huge hurry, but in poetry :! WAY OUT OF LINE. It really doesn't belong at all!! unless of course that's the theme of the poem....

i agree with you..theres a place for such abbreviations..and poetry is not the place..but like michael(i think it was) said, you kind of have to call it poetic license..he made a very good point on that...
quite truthfully, when i see poetry written in that fashion, i dont much feel like reading it..which is sad.. couldve been a good poem..

the other thing that bothers me is, a whole blasted poem in CAPS!!! grrrrr..
