Has anyone but me noticed the steady decline of 'interesting' shows on TV?

Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the tube -- I watch about 5 or so hours a week (when it's not football season).  Other than that, I might flip through channels if I'm really bored and there is absolutely nothing else to do ... but basically, I'd much rather sleep, draw, read, clean the toilet, etc. than watch anything other than my 3 staple shows ...

Some prime examples of MAJOR wastes of airtime, in my opinion, are:

1) Jerry Springer -- Puh-LEEEZE!  If I want to see freaks in action, all I have to do is go to Frisco ...    Who actually watches this stuff...?  (Note: this is a rhetorical question -- if you actually do watch Jerry Springer, I DON'T want to know!)

2) Dawson's Creek -- Soap operas go prime time.  *shudder*

3)  Change of Heart, Temptation Island -- As though people don't have ENOUGH trouble maintaining a decent relationship nowadays, let's make a conscious EFFORT to break them up!!  Any man who tried to convince me to take our relationship on the air would not live long enough to make the taping ...

4) Queen of Swords, Beastmaster, Jack of All Trades --  have chicks with big knockers and elementary-school knowledge of ancient myths and legends, will make budget 'fantasy' series in which the most interesting element is -- you guessed it -- chicks with big knockers.  Go figure.

5) Cleopatra 2525, miscellaneous other sci-fi series that I can't recall due to lack of interest -- Mystery Science Theater was created for a reason.  These shows are that reason.  Kindly leave the Sci-fi series beat to Star Trek, the writers of which at least have some faint idea of what they are doing.

I could go on indefinitely, but I want to hear YOUR opinions -- which boob tube blunders get under YOUR skin..?

Hmm....

1) Any and all soap operas, be they daytime or prime time. If I'm sooooo bored that I'm channel surfing (easy feat with 4 channels, one in Spanish, to choose from), if I even see the inkling of a soap, or item 2, I switch off and play solitaire.

2) Trash talk shows. Montel is ok some of the time, and Ophrah has her book club, but I really can't stand any of the other formats. The only time I will tune in is when I'm feeling very depressed and blue. Seeing people even dweebier than me goes no end to cheering me up.

3) Any show where a boy and his favored domesticated animal save the day.

4) Any show where some bored, nosey geriatric pokes around and meddles with other people's lives in the smallest town with a crime rate higher than L.A. in the middle of a long, hot, humid summer.

5) Infomercials. Now, I like the Cleo Awards, and I like seeing some commercials. I don't like seeing commercials 24/7. And especially not the same infomercial looped for several hours.

6) Networks that try to do a football play-by-play with national politics.

7) Had to add one after I submitted. Any Hispanic show. The soaps are reminiscent of US soaps back in the 70's, the primary sports are soccer (GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and wrestling, again in the 70's style, although you can find a few throwbacks to the 60's. If you really want to see the 60's and 70's, check out their commercials. No matter what the product is for, there will always be at least one bikini clad model lounging on something. All talkshows contain at least one blonde on the panel. Same with news broadcasts. Crud, seems like I have a morbid fascination here. When I can't find the cards, and I don't feel like being on the computer, I'll turn on La Munda, or Univision. It's like watching a bad wreck. *shudder* P'raps I just need to get out more, but it's kinda hard in this area.....most of the people speak Spanish, so I'm right back in La Munda or Univision.........

That's about it for now.....now where did I put that pack of cards.....

LOL @ Ali -- did my share of ooh-nee-vee-see-ON (Univision) when in Miami. I lived with my ex's family for a while, who didn't speak a whit of English. Novelas (Spanish soap operas) for days, I tell you ... *shudder*

Just realized I forgot one that should have made the top three ...

1.5) Court shows; Judge Judy, Judge Mills-Lane, The People's Court, etc -- as though the American justice system was not laughable enough ... this is just Springer on trial, with so-called 'comedians' presiding. Blech.

Oh lawks...had forgotten all the People's Court spinoffs, which Night Court nicely parodied. So let's make that 8).

9) Voyeuristic television. Don't matter what it is, me's don't like it. Cops and derivatives, Candid Camera and all derivatives, Funniest (yeah, right) Videos and all derivatives, Faces of Death watered down knock offs and all derivatives, any and all shock tv shows, and Survivor spinoffs. Now, I like Surviror, but had to draw the line at Big Brother, Survivor: Outback, and Temptation Island. Now I hear Fox has another one: Boot Camp. That oughta be a laugh, especially if they find the most sadistic Marine drill instructors for the posts. Now that, I might watch.

1. Judge Judy. I can't stand that lady. She makes some good points, but the people in her court are complete idiots and her attitude really gets to me.

2. Any game show involving money and household appliances as prizes. Take The Price is Right. Who the heck cares if they win a bloody refrigerator? The only one of these shows I can halfway stand is Wheel of Fortune, and that's because I like to figure out the word puzzles.

3. Most of the teenybopper shows.

4. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Both the animated version and the recorded version drive me up the wall. My sister watches both of these, and shish, you'd think Sabrina could get a hint after a while. She goes through the same stupid incident every episode!

ohhh goodness.....the society we live in is utterly mad!! One thing that depresses me more than ANYTHING else is mtv. Mtv makes me sick,it literally hurts to watch it(except for daria...lol)to think these girls wiggling their butts in front of the camera in spandex pants and doing all kinds of grotesque things,i have to wonder DO they have brains?(i'm sure they do,but they certainly aren't protrayed as such)Is this what I am supposed to be? How depressing. i could go on and on. Personally i fill my time with AMC(american movie classics) besides they have no annoying commercials during the movies...lol

TOP 10 TV SHOWS I HATE:

1) JENNY JONES--Dispicable...
2) Jerry Springer
3) Sally Jesse Rapheal -It seems every episode when I've flip past her show is about having naughty teens to bootcamp whereto watch them be yelled at by drill seargents --i dislike seeing that.
4) Ricki Lake
5) Raw is War
6) Beleive it or Not
7) South Park
8) Real TV
9) Survival
10) Entertainment Tonight--Glitz and Glamour hype with no substance.

I did not realize there was such a thing as "good" television. There is a reason I don't have a TV, and it's not financial.

I seldom watch TV. Once in awhile I like to catch an episode of Star Trek DS9 or TNG but most TV bites.
I can't stand any of the talk shows, infomercials really irritate me, the court shows don't have any real courtroom substance, and most movies are either stupid, too violent, or just plain not worth the watching. The reality thing is being done to death. I do like to watch some old TV once in awhile like from the 70's but I don't really have the time to sit through an entire episode of anything.

How can you save me?
When the dark comes right in and takes me,
from my front walk and into bed,
where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree

I know, Sharon....I miss cable at times. C-Span (especially British Parliment), Discovery, History, A&E, Cooking, PBS, CNN, and Sci-Fi, to name a few. Here in Yuma, unless you have satellite or cable, you have 4 channels: Fox, ABC, NBC, and Telemundo. I might be a tad confuced on the alphabet soup....ABC could be CBS, or CBS could be NBC...the formatting is similar, I recall that much.....

And i love world link with the ethnic music videos,i think that's the neatest(minimal butt and breast wiggling) and all the movies from africa and france and all.And amc where they play HITCHCOCK,whom i'm in love with.ha Now he did some good clean intellectual suspense!! Now Who wants to bet everyone agreeing with this thread is over 30? lol. The reality shows!! yikes!! what's the deal with that,i mean one or 2 is alright, but do they have to knock it into the ground? Just like any fad i suppose.

TV Shows I don't like[in no particular order]:

1> Stuff like Touched by an Angel

Gosh! So if I have a problem in life I just have to hope that some young Irish woman will show up and glow for me. Oh, what an ideal world that would be....

2> Entertainment Tonight, Et Al

I really don't care if David Duchuvne is dating his wife's best friend's roomate's father's uncle's sister's neice's dog's hampster.

3> Oprah!!!

Basically, a bunch of people with low self esteem discussing spirituality as a solution to their problems, never paying any attention to logic, which dictates that there probably isn't any spiritual aspect to mankind. But hey, if one delusion fixes another, then fine...

4> Survivor

Who came up with the idea to take an old game from Canada's news program W5 and turn it into such a giant collosal waste of time?

5> Temptation Island

Who came up with the idea to take a primitive evolutionary mechanism and turn it into a colossal waste of time?

6> Anything to do wish fashion

Huge numbers of fashion industry magnates use the models as nothing less than prostitutes[heard it in a documentary], and then we watch them on TV...

7> Televised religious healing services

I especially love when the family that's doing it goes on TV and the leader jibber jabbers about his ministry, while the rest of them sit there like zombies.
