So much for that theory, Karilea... I've only found one of mine so far... and now I'm going to do the same search using lines from my poetry... instead of the writing I should be doing for you???... I'll still do it... I promise...

I received a standard message from MSN.com (it was a template letter I'm sure). I sent it back and told them they need to contact the people (2) who plagarized my work or to please give me the name of the attorney for MSN.com. I got this:

quote:

Hello Sharon,
Thank you for writing to MSN.com Customer Support.
We apologize for the inconvenience regarding this matter. We have forwarded your concern to the appropriate support team so that it may be given its due attention. We hope that you will be patient enough to wait for their response. Please write us again if you have inquiries regarding MSN.com portal sites and we will be glad to assist you.

To Whom Funds,

I have been following this post and I think it is very sad that people would do such a thing but nothing any more surprises me, It was mentioned that most of the poetry used was on the main site but im sure if there finding stuff from there then they have also come in to the forums looking, what im asking is if one of you comes across poetry done by other poets here are you e-mailing them to let them know? Im not to good on doing surches, I did find that there is someone out there by the Cerenity going to school and has some poetry on the inter net, there of all things is a bed called Cerenity, and there is also a famus women who is passed away now but has my real name and she is all over the inter net, thank you.

Love, Cerenity

Ooh...look what I found...     This is MY poem--only second poem that I wrote...and I can't recall anyone asking permission to use my poem on this page. http://www.dla.mil/dialog/spring.asp

quote:
A  Faded Rose

A sunny summer morning,
A steamy August night,
Began with love and hopefulness;
And ended with shock and fright.
As we awoke and we found out
About the day before,
The shock set in; the grief began
And we felt it more and more -
The anger at those who caused this,
And at those who didnít care.
Still felt by some, it hasnít stopped
Because this isnít fair.
How different would our world be
Had this event not occurred.
The shock we never would have felt,
The crying never heard.
If this rose hadnít faded,
If this rose hadnít died,
Would we still all be happy,
And would we not have cried?
Or had she lived, would things be worse
Not for us, but for her?
Her death horrific, yet merciful,
A blessing for the girl.
We havenít quite figured it out,
But one day we will know.
Without a doubt weíll all find out
And in our knowledge, grow.

Geez now I'm pretty upset....I searched on Rosebud and my copyright name and found nothing....but using lines from my poems are turning up quite different results.

Going to user.icx.net, I found this disclaimer:

quote:

THANK YOU for visiting EDOTS Attic....

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT:

using is copyrighted.

If we are wrong, please notify us, and we will be

glad to remove it, thank you!

I have an email out to them now. It states:

quote:

I belong to a poetry group called Passions in Poetry. As of yesterday, a member notified others that several sites were pulling off poetry from the Main Page of Ron Carnell's [website owner] site. Many of the poetry pieces being used on other sites are copyrighted.

Moreover, contact of the author[s] has not been made. You have one of my poems at your site Edot, namely, "Whisperings" by SunshineKRJ.

Please contact me as to why you felt you could use my poetry at your site without permission. Thank you.

I will let you all know what I find out if I receive a return e-mail.

Sharon, the other site of one of my poems leads me back to "Ja'ffri Islamic Centre" but when I go to contact a webmaster, all if get is a 404 message, site not found.

doing a slow burn here....

and THANKS for showing me the error of my search!

I have a question regarding this topic...

Are majority of poems 'taken' without the permission of author from the forum pages or are they from postings at the main PIP site?

I ask this because I've never posted at the PIP main site and I'm sitting back today wondering whether it is there the 'culprits' take these treasures from...

By and large, the poems used are coming from the main site, with most of the borrowing sites adhering to the letter of the original copyright notice, which Ron has since amended with the author's permission to be requested for use. However, there have been a few sites out there that borrowed from the forums, and linked back. This is very easy to find, if you click on the link and it gives you a 404 at netpoets. (The forums, now on Athena, were, until recently, on Ceres. Hence, the page will not be found on Ceres.) Another possibility could arise from a prior posting at another UBB or BBS, or even on a personal website being borrowed.

Thank you Ali for the prompt reply and when I get a chance this afternoon I'll do some checking around but I'm kinda thinking I'll only find restaurants and/or sweets under my penname

If I should find anything out there that's suspicious I'll let you know...

I have tried to be cautious with the poems I post at Passions' forums, only because I know how easily they can be taken and used without my permission. I searched at several seach engines for "Lakewalker" and was amused to fine my posts at another message board that I used to visit (oh the memories), my poem in passions's poetry magazine, and listings on eBay for the LakeWalker knife set (I think I need some now ). I have not submitted any poems to the main site, that may be why I haven't found any of my poems used without permission. Thanks for bringing this subject up!

Groan ... I'm tired. This is really quite sad, and never-ending it seems. Each search is a new adventure (and I'm only focussing on the one's who don't list me as the author or list themselves) ... sigh.

Here's a brand new poem someone created which is a compilation of about 3 of my "dog poems", phrases and lines taken from several verbatim and rearranged into one brand "new" poem entitled "Buffy" pulled together by a 16 year old girl. How do I deal with this one? Any ideas?  I do not wish to terrify a young child with legal wording by any means. I also want it deleted. Some suggestions on how to handle these delicate ones would be appreciated.

I just followed that link you gave Kit. Anyone that puts typing like THAT on a webpage deserves to be locked up

On a more serious note though, I feel bad enough about someone stealing one of my poems. I would absolutely hate for someone to rip three of them apart and create some kind of mutant hybrid. You have my sympathy and I hope you can resolve it asap

LOL @ mutant hybrid Colin ... sigh ...

Seriously, I receive so many wonderful e-mails from the main site almost daily, that it suitably out-weighs the problems I'm finding, though I'm still completely aggravated. I've come across a lot so far that are real issues, and I'm not done by a long shot.

I did just receive a very apologetic letter from one person, which I very much appreciated (and thanks for passing along that other one Ron).

Hey Dovey - they edited out our links!

Sigh...free speech and whatnot eh?

That seems odd - to be able to just jump in and edit out non-offensive posts. WE can't do that willy nilly can we?

HUMPH! I'm OFFENDED lol

A little twist for this sad saga... I wasn't overly concerned that any of my work had been poached since I've never posted on the main forum. However, I did a search on "suthern"... and was quite shocked to find a poem called "Reality" on the main forum submitted by suthern on 12/12/99... and that isn't me or mine!!!

I received another email telling me the webmaster removed my poem, but also stated that she has seen it ALL over the Net without my name or with someone else's. Sigh.

It's nice they like it so much, but wish they would give ME credit and a link.

Hi everyone!
I've spent the last 7 hours going through my site (and Anns site) and making corrections. All links are now either above or directly below each poem, and in larger print. Hopefully I have not missed anyone...I had three years worth of pages to wade through and may have missed one or two : )
I did not know anyones web site addy but will be happy to add it with the net poets link if anyone wants to send them to me.
I hope this is ok with everyone, and again, anyone who would like their poetry removed from my site, or Anns just let me know and I will take care of it promptly.
Once again, thank you all so very much for your patience and understanding.
Most Sincerely,
Sandra

Thanks for the update, Sandra! It's very refreshing to know that there are other webmasters out there willing to not only fix errors, but also who are willing to let the poets know. I, for one, greatly appreciate the effort you've put into correcting this problem.

On a side note, if you still write, why not add to one of our poetry forums? I think it safe to say that you are more than welcome.

Kamla, I figured they would. I don't care!!
I was surprised to see, that it's so difficult to find out who is a Moderator over there, and that everyone's email is private. I just happened to pick a link I saw sitting there and was like are you a Mod?? Never did get a reply, I guess they just saw my reply in 'my poem.'
