I enjoy the signatures on here almost as much as I enjoy the poetry. I would really like to know the story behind any who would care to share.
Sure hope I posted this in the right forum.

Did you want to know where i got my signature? It's last two lines of one of Shakespeare's sonnets. I forgot which one, but the one that starts as "Shall I compare thee to a summer's night"

"So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this give life to thee." W.S.

I just somehow thought mine was appropriate for ME!

I got mine from a song by Shivaree called "Goodnite Moon" about a person who is afraid of the dark. That's me!!

How can you save me?
When the dark comes right in and takes me,
from my front walk and into bed,
where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree

oh yeah, that one. Because i have found that the outcasts of society who everyone decides to label as "crazy" are sometimes the very wisest of them all. And the most "sane" and acceptable things in society are REALLY the most pointless (i.e. wearing the right clothes, smoking, drugs, making darn sure you expose yourslf to beaucoup ultra violet so you can have a great tan for tis years prom,
allthose so called "cool" things). I lovethat whole poem by emily, tis most profound and witty, everyone read it!! LOL

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I'm enjoying reading all your answers. Part of the reason I've asked I think is because I am kind of a mental collector of epitaphs.
I'm thinking...'What a Difference a Day Makes' would be appropriate and hopefully amuse anyone strolling by. And also because I'm trying to settle on a signature for myself. I take the oddest things so seriously. Thanks all!

Well, my first tag was Le Jongleur Aspirante, which loosely translates to the aspiring bard/poet, from Norman French, ca. 1200.

The next was my own creation:

As I sit here dimly thinking
Watching modem lights a-blinking
Churning out poetic hash.
Lord, in all Your piety,
Help me keep my sanity:
Please don't let the modem crash!

However, this one sometimes got chopped up due to signature field limits.

I've used from time to time 'If I were any more laid back, I'd be in a coma'.

The current one was found in an astrological email I receive from England. In addition to horoscopes, or horrorscopes, since the guy pulls no punches, there are quotes and bizarre news items. Saw it, liked it, used it.

Mine right now is something that a friend of mine sent to me. . . I don't know who said it, but I like it because it shows the power of one person. . .

My first quote That which gives light must endure burning was a quote from Viktor Frankl, and I loved it because it's me. . . and it's anyone that shines for others. . . it shows what we must do. . . what we're called to do. . .

Mine I made up, but will soon be change for something by Rob Thomas(Matchbox Twenty).

When I read "The Prince", the truth of this quote just blew me away, so I decided to make it my signature.

Thank God Acire didn't come up with that one.

ANyway......mine.....I got 2...

the one about me staying the way I am...I made up in this defiant mood. Pissed off at the world and not willing to change for noone and nothing.

The other one......my shadow......yea It was supposed to be the first 2 lines of a poem, but I never finished it. If I don't finish a poem and have only a few lines I'll put it ina group of works called POETRY PORTIONS.....so that's an excerpt from poetry portions.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

I looked in an online quotes site for quotes that refer to trees because I'm a tree surgeon and like trees. Here's what I came up with

Well the rason I use so many is they come neary daily via the USPS in plain brown paper, with a barely decipherable post mark from someplace called "The Pablo Research Institute, Seminole Island..."

The rest is always smudged out. Being one who rarely looks a gift quote in the mouth, I dutifully transfer them to cyber land. Generally about that time they spontaneously combust.

You see the hold this place has over me. What if I didn't use them. Would I be the next to combust?

Mine change so often... the one I have now?
I happened upon this quotation during a VERY rough time in my life. The words hit me in that rare emotional enlightening way and snapped me out of self-pity and romanticism.
Since, it has become a sort of a motto for me... when my life becomes difficult, I have to look around at the various directions I receive love -- family, friends, lovers -- and remember what I’ve learned of the difference between romance, idealism, dependency and the actual raw, struggling nature of love in all it’s forms. Sometimes another person’s idea of love is very hard to accept, and being on the recipient end can often be painful …
Reading over these words reminds me that living is not meant to be easy, especially that little section dubbed relationships…
Be they healthy and beautiful or disastrous.

Btw, Colin, I LOVE your signature… one of my favorites.

*laughs* WOW, where's YOUR brain today, Beth?
I type all that out and then forget to check "Show Signature"... LOL

excuse me now... *sits in the corner, dons a dunce cap*

Mine is from an essay by Robert Kaplan. I like it, it's different.

I'm thinking of changing it, but I'm not sure if I want to. Any input anyone? I can't tell you what my alternatives are, it would ruin the surprise!

....peace as a primary objective is dangerous because it implies that we would sacrifice any principle for the sake of it....

I've changed mine quite a bit as well, though I've stuck with these 2 for a while now.

One was in an email, the other I got on a little card from my Mom.

I am quite close to many of the people I met in Teen #4. I talk to them often... every now and then one of them will say something signature worthy so I just use that.

Okay.. mine is about someone who hurt me emotionally not too long ago. He knows about me, and knows what will make me upset, but he went TOO FAR. Whatever friendship we had is now over, and he let me down completely... that's the stroy behind mine... not too exciting, but something worth sharing

--Marie

I never thought that you would ever be the one to let me down. I guess that just goes to show how wrong I always am.
