~What in your life doesn't make you scream, but instead makes you smile? (I think that I needed to do this to help me to recognize these things and to assist in balancing the ones that make me scream.
So,...right now in my life the things that make me smile are:
*my niece, and many other people.
*reassuring professors.
*living on the ocean.
*jazz brunch and coffee on sundays.
*the scent of lilacs in the floral dept. at the grocery store.
*my kittys.
*finding my favorite pair of pants for 8 dollars.
*or coat for 10. hehe.
*a perfect photograph.
*watching friends perform at acoustic night.
*working for the sweetest people.
*feeling the sun warm my back as I walk.
*watching E skate.
*the fact that E's getting me a new guitar.
*and many more, which is good to think about. I must recognize these things more. Yeah? *Peace.

Hmmm, let's see....
Waking up to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and sunshine,
Finding a "shmily" from the hubby and giving one in return,
Memories of the kids when they were little,
Making memories with them now when they are grown,
Watching the antics of the dogs,
Reading the great poetry here,
Watching a perfect sunset,
Sitting in front of a warm fire, knowing everyone is safe while a blizzard rages outside,
A hug from a friend,
Listening to the elderly telling tales of their youth,
Winter, spring, summer and fall,

Great thread SpitFire, certainly makes me realize there's a lot more that makes me smile than I have to vent about! Thanks.

Poetry.

The email I got from my friend Dorothy today--she is looking into this site and wants to invite one of her friends to join us here as well!

The fact that even though it snowed yesterday, it's going to be warm all this week.

Being on spring break and knowing I'll be done with school in about two months.

Finally wrapping up a big project.

Having a long conversation with a friend.

Flowers--roses, pink carnations, and lilacs.

Passions in Poetry.

Dancing in the rain.
Listening to my grandmother talk about her mother.
Listening to the rain on my roof and remembering that I actually HAVE a roof.
Making someone laugh.
Hugs.
Watching the clouds float by while making them into animals and fairytales.
The look on my mom's face after I wash the dishes.
Knowing that no matter how annoying my sister gets, she's still there to talk.
Hearing a great song on the radio after a horrible day at school.
Dogs that lick my face and don't pay attention to the grief that it wears.

K now I'm happier...thanks so much for the thread.

~ three days weekends

~ waking up in the morning, pulling the curtain back, opening the window and being smacked with the sweetness of the day: liquid gold sunshine, leaves whirling in the breeze, breathing in air that lightens every inch of your body

~ getting a seemingly insignificant message on ICQ, opening it and finding it's your fabulous always-unavailable friend who's been in China for the past two years, and hasn't had any sort of internet connection for the past nine months

~ coming home feeling so so tired after work... but biking to the gym anyway and feeling the stress fall away as you pedal. In the gym, sweating hard as you push your body against gravity and metal, then biking home singing to the sting of the wind on your ears. Arriving home, taking an especially long hot shower, then fixing a bowl of tomato soup and a place on the bed to curl up with the book-of-the-moment.

~ walking in the door every night and seeing that grin.

~ watching your legs turn from wax to bronze in the sun.

~ finally getting the nerve to dye your hair RED and establishing that you can actually pull it off

~ a boyfriend that cleans house when you're sick …
   then fixes you dinner.

~ calling in sick: that beautiful moment where you lay your head back down and sleep the sleep of the careless.

~ cherry blossoms

~ beating any male at strategy/war games.

~ a room full of candles

~ thunderstorms

~ coffee shops. hot tea.

~ being known for holistic remedies... and watching someone break down to ask for whatever weird concoction I have that will get rid of the sickness that's driving them mad.

~ the call the next day that lets me know they feel 110% better (and the tinge of surprise/light reluctance/obvious smile in their voice).

~ a perfect apple

~ a full refrigerator

~ seeing the place picked up and knowing all the laundry is done

~ BNL

~ riding with my (bare) feet out the window

~ getting picked up at the end of the day on the motorcycle

~ discovering a book that makes me ravenous

~ rhetorical questions at 2am

~ learning I have an accent … and hearing that it’s contagious.

~ my birthmark

~ Indian food

~ someone so excited about what they’re saying, the rest of the world could fall apart and they wouldn’t slow their animation

~  my reality (sometimes)

~ watching

~ giggling

~ napping

~ loving

~ reading over what brings joy to other people, and the realization that I’m smiling.

Thanks for this post SpitFire. It's come at a great time.
I think this place and the people here would have to be on the top of my list.
Loving and being loved.
Family (usually!)
Spending time with friends doing nothing.
My two beautiful puppies, Ralph and Lucy.
Writing
Drawing
Listening to music.
Sunshine, rain, snow.
The beach at sunrise and the mountains at sunset. (or vice versa if I'm on the other side of the country)

I could go on and on but I think I'll stop now.

Days off from work

The look in my hubby's eyes when I say I love you.

My 18 year old son who isn't ashamed to kiss his ma in front of his friends.

My dog

My cats

My son's rat.

A warm rain to walk in.

A nice cup of hot chocolate on a wintry morn

A really funny e-mail

An e-card when you don't expect it.

A bill that finally gets paid in full.

Paying off the car.

A ride on the motorcycle on a warm spring day with my hubby.

Hearing from a friend from 15 years ago.

Reading a good book

Dilbert Cartoons

PIP

Reading/writing a good poem

Listening to a new CD

Opening 'just because' presents

The blooming of spring flowers.

A clean house when I come home from a hard day at work.

I'm sure there are others but the list is just too long.

How can you save me?
When the dark comes right in and takes me,
from my front walk and into bed,
where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree

Things that make me smile...

- Driving in my car with windows down and the radio up.
- Music, my own or others, especially live.
- Dancing/running/walking/swimming in a summer rain
- Laying in the grass and counting clouds
- Laying in dewy grass and watching the stars
- Being in a quiet forest or near a stream... Flowing water...

And that which summons the most smiles from me...

Krista, just spending time with her, seeing her smile, holding her hand, sitting close to her, talking to her... It always makes me smile inside

time for me to take a shot at this

seeing the snow hitting a light just right that it sparkles like dimands.

seeing the sunrise over the atlantic ocean.  (only been to the ocean once but lord it still makes me happy)

knowing that one day i will see my beloved dixie again.

playing my guitar

playing my guitar on stage in front of a sold out crowd.

getting so lost and caught up in my music that i lose all track of everything becoming one with the melodee

hearing that new uncle kracker song on my radio

hearing the song pour me.

knowing how to do the new smileys, wait no one told me

hanging out with my friends and just partying all night long

road trips

the fact that no one thinks that my name is really jesse jaymz

acting

learning how to play a new song i like

hearing a sad song from the past and not crying to it.

dr pepper

ummmmmmmmm other drinks that use a small glass that you have to be my age (21) to buy

this little guy

not crying when i see my ex-girlfriend online

being loved.

loveing someone with all my heart.

and as always alley and all the rest of passions and everyone in it

I'm a saint and I'm sinner,
I'm a loser and a winner,
I'm steady and unstable,
I'm young but I am able...
