This is the transcript of the ACTUAL radio conversation of a US Naval ship and the Canadians, off the coast of Newfoundland, Oct. 95. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95.

CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid collision.
>
AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision.
>
CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collison.
>
AMERICANS: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
>
CANADIANS: Negative. I say again, YOU will have to divert your course.
>
AMERICANS: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY
THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND
THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS
SHIP!
>
CANADIANS: We are a lighthouse. Your call

Sorry couldn't resist, somebody sent this to me.. don't really know if it was true, most likely not.

I got the same thing, apparently it did happen, and was in the news somewhere.     That's how it goes.

SEA... so whens the hubby out of town...

this thread reminds me of a poem ....

Just for you SEA....

Emily Dickinson

Wild Nights! Wild Nights!
Were I with thee,
Wild Nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile the winds
To a heart in port, --
Done with the compass,
Done with the chart!

Rowing in Eden!
Ah! the sea!
Might I but moor
To-night in Thee!

Acies

LOL, I've heard that one before, but as a joke told to me by a friend in school.  I find it hard to believe it happened, mind you I could ask my uncle, who is in the Canadian Navy, if the incident really happened.  Mind you, from what I've seen on "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", there are some rather dim Americans.

LOL!!!!!!

It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.
